I low key want to be the fly on the wall from the 1970s-1990s so I can understand…how the hell did we as black people deem our own hair as unacceptable?… I understand the oppression in public. I understand conformity as a means to an end. Survival. I get that. What I’m not understanding is how we got to a point where we, not only believe, but regurgitate and perfect the lies said about our hair texture in our homes, to our children? How did our mothers wear these same exact Afros go from that level of confidence, to telling us, their babies, that we’re most beautiful with hair that not ours or not our texture? What happened??…what did they endure to make such a drastic switch? In ONE generation?…
If you watch a video on James brown he said they made him perm his hair & he received more money compared to when he went back to natural. What happened/happening is the Willie lynch slave mentality stuff. It was brainwashed media to make us believe natural hair should only be “allowed” “accepted” if it’s non-4c hair types. To those types with those types of mentality. If we haven’t had been forced to get perms, or convinced. We would have a whole different type of texture of natural hair. Too bad it’s still a thing where people are uncomfortable by their own hair. By their OWN family members who will tell you to “cover” up your hair. With a wig, weave… self-hatred types.
Ever since hearing my mom journey. She used to have a big Afro. She gets with a self-hatred black man, who says more than once. How he hated his own skin color, hair, black race(that he calls n******.) her Afro days are over. All it’s been is wigs for years. He even told me once when I had my hair much longer to “cover that stuff.” It’s not our fault that someone is intimidated by what’s ours. But having a black parent or family member as such. Will Make you so uncomfortable they try to bully you into the hairstyle they want for you. Even if it’s not even healthy for you or caring for you. Sometimes, it makes you wonder why did you have kids in the first place? If all you was concerned was about looks?
Thank you for bringing this video out. Embracing our natural beauty is difficult for a lot of our sisters. For me I got tired of the heat and the fake hair. Putting out money for products to keep my hair straight. When I was a child all we had was grease and water and hair cream. That's it my hair was strong healthy and manageable. I'm back on that regiment. If there is some kind of code, because my hair intimates some people I use a beautiful head rap. I love the natural look. It saves me money. Amen.... I love my sisters I pray they will reach a time in their life when they reach that point, to embrace, love and take good care of themselves. Amen.❤❤❤
I’m not a person of color, but I still wanna say with my whole heart that your hair is beautiful. It is a valid form of self expression and it is YOUR HAIR!! IT IS YOUR SCALP!! YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU LIKE WITH IT, AND IF YOU WANNA LEAVE IT IN ITS NATURAL STATE THEN YOU CAN!! YOU ARE VALID AND DESERVING OF LOVE AND RESPECT NO MATTER WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE ♥
i think everything goes to an extent. i love seeing our sisters wear braids and wigs and weave, but when some say things like "i hate having type 4 hair" it's saddening. wearing things over your hair is very cute, but when it comes from a place of self hatred it's sad 🙁
My father did this for me for years. So since I’ve done what I wanted to do with my own hair. That he called nappy in a bad way. He said he hated his own skin , hair & race of people. He never engages in anything with me. Like, most father daughter relationships. He treats me like if I wasn’t even his daughter. He told me before to cover up my real hair. Or, would go to my mom & have her tell me/ask me if I wanted a wig. Because your father doesn’t like your hair like that. . . Even compared me to my family who hair texture wasn’t 4c. But I’ve never been jealous. Because it’s just hair it’s my hair … & I enjoy it. 😊
I’ve never seen my mom real hair until he’s not around. Because she believes it’s too knotty. It’s knotty/nappy, because she never gets real time to take the real care of it. Just regular washing & throwing the wig back on like a hat isn’t a hair care routine or self love. It’s abuse& wrong that he would do that to her mindset. Knowing the self-hatred some people have is why I learned to not care.
I think the only argument I have for natural hair being done or undone are the people who say that rolling out of bed and doing nothing to their hair if it’s in it’s natural state means it’s done just because it’s natural. You can tell the difference between natural hair that’s taken care of and natural hair that’s not. Sure, you don’t have to do a million steps and use a million products to make it look “nice” but at least do SOMETHING. I’m straight natural 70% of the time but I’ve been wearing my hair natural to take breaks since I also bleach and dye my hair. I wash it, detangle it, and out it up in a ponytail/puff and I never do my edges. It looks professional because I do something to it.
I understand what you’re saying. I think most of the women in these TikTok’s are saying how people don’t think natural can be “done” AT ALL and that in itself is rooted in anti blackness and self hate
I mean some people literally are doing their hair in the morning but it still ends up looking like they did nothing to it. Yet, like the other commentor said, someone can style their hair the night before so that in the morning they literally don't have to do anything but take off their bonnet. So unless they're telling you they did nothing to it, you wouldn't really know.
I never had to reinforce that my hair the way it is is beautiful. Even though i grew up in a house that wanted the pressed look. I had a perm at 8. In my 20's I said NOPE. I am 55 now. 😊
I hardly ever see black celebrities wear their natural hair unless they are selling a hair care product then they'll roll it out once or twice & I get tired of some women say they are natural too but never show it lol
I agree n its hard , i am a work in progress. When u first went natural i was iffy then i love it n get extreme with the bush that was so thick n gorgeous i didn't touch it went swimming n babey , the tangled lol i love a good cute hairstyle like a pink wig but i love my black girl/woman curls ❤ cool vid
I do my protective styles myself especially braids because last time I let an African braid my hair one of them completely came off, with my natural hair included! So I went back to doing my own mini braids with my own hair, protein treatments, deep conditioning, oil, aloe, and my hair has grown so much! When I straightened it it’s so long. Stick to the routine‼️
No one could ever make me feel bad about my virgin hair. I’ve always had it, even in middle and high school when other schoolmates would ask me if I wanted to relax my hair, I would tell them no because I don’t like the way it looks. I grew up seeing and knowing what my hair looks like. That is the problem for a lot of Black children and women, they started at the age of 3-5 with the relaxer routine and continued with it into adulthood, so they don’t know what their hair is supposed to look like. I am so grateful that I never had these issues with myself. 💜
On another TH-cam video -- 3 Amish bi'racial' sisters wearing natural hair asked why can't more 'black' women do the same. On the screen & comment section many commenters got defensive. They complained that their 4 c hair was unmanageable, criticized by others & not as easy as bi'racial' hair. All these black women onscreen wore long straight weaves, wigs & or hats. Like they were ashamed of their natural hair.
This is what the natural hair community tried to teach us before. Our hair IS manageable and it IS beautiful. People are lazy and do not want to research how to simply care for the health of their hair. Healthy hair is good hair, and I have had NATURAL waist length and a NATURAL pixie cut and Locs! Learn how to care for the hair the way it grows out of the scalp.
I always have this issue mostly from my family if we going somewhere they always on me about my natural hair like are you gonna do something with you hair I’m like my fro is done and they always try to force braids or wigs on me it’s kinda disheartening but most of the time I end up doing a crochet style so I don’t have to hear them say anything 🙄
Bruh this is the exact same thing I’m going through. I wear my natural hair 24/7 but crochet styles are the only thing I will do and I rarely get those. My hair is twisted right now and I love it
My dad did this for years until I stopped reacting or give a f***. It’s controlling af. You want me to contribute to damaging my REAL hair on my own HEAD. To PLEASE YOU, or even the FAM who thinks like this. Yet, they’re either bald, don’t take care of their own hair, or don’t know how to take care of their own hair. Foh. Sorry. But I’m glad a lot of people I can relate to this with. Because, of perms as a child, it damaged my real hair growth. Where certain areas on my grow, but not the area that hasn’t been growing.
I am in the process of picking out my locs to rock my natural curly coils. The way my momma immediately wanted me to go to a professional salon to straighten my hair was a blip.
I have a small afro, and my daily routine is spraying some water/product on it and pick it out. I've saved so much money, and I feel comfortable wearing my hair the way it naturally looks. In my experience, black people are the only ones who have something to say about it. Talking about, "What are you gonna do with that hair?" Like the lady in the 1st video said, "It's done."
I have done quite a bit to my hair, silk press, extensions, but i dont do it constantly because i know its not my hair type. I would never dare to toucha relaxer and i revert my silk presses after 2 weeks. This whole braids and extensions constantly weekly fake eyelash appointment is at this point vanity. Let your curls curl and let your coils coil they need to breathe or you wont have hair to silk press or add extensions to "but oh i can wear a wig" thats not your hair!
Every so often, I’ll wash my hair and just let it be, maybe I’ll put it in a bun or a high puff. Yeah I’ll just leave it alone. Not all the time, but sometimes.
I see alot of self hate and natural hair rejection in the " straight hair natural" and " heat trained natural" corners of TH-cam as well. Many people would rather make excuses for their actions and the actions of others than entertain the idea that they could possibly hate their hair.
We have a hair growth oil ( lavender scent and a cinnamon and clove scent) that has been having amazing results!! If you're looking to grow your Hair check us out!
I don't believe my natural hair is ugly, it's more that I've been convinced other styles are more attractive. I've seen my hair multiple ways now, and although I'm fine with wearing a natural style here and there, I do find myself prettier with braids/twists, wand curls and longer styles. That's just how it is for me.
The tiktok was not extreme and I 100% agree with her. It looks a hot mess and I'm over it. You do what you want on your own time but the minute you're requesting my coin then I expect something.
Maybe I just need advice. I like my relaxed hair, it's just so fragile, so I wear protective styling I like. Buns break my hair, and braid outs rub on my shoulders and break my hair. Corn rows or straight backs aren't what I like all the time, so I wear braids and-oh yikes, a wig with a different hair texture. I know this is a divided debate but is it always undisputably self esteem that keeps women in wigs? I know women with amazing long hair, like my aunt, who just keeps the magic hidden for winter or something. Why is it bad if she's not saying our curls are nappy or unprofessional or anything? Why can't I just do what I want without not being "black" enough for as if I'm trying to hide something?
It’s not about “being black enough” the point of this video is to like how your hair looks naturally without always wearing wigs and braids to cover up the fact that you don’t like the way it looks. That’s all
1. No one has to prove to you anything about themselves. Please stop that. You didn’t say it out loud because that would’ve been extremely ignorant of you. 2) then cute coily curls are set and manipulated and you’re showing majority manipulated hair styles while telling women to get right with their natural hair ….. let’s fix that. I agree with the root of your argument but ion think you’re ready to be the messenger to this message though.
Ok guys.. Im here for advice. I'm starting my natural hair journey after cutting parts of my hair that was relaxed. Do yall have any tips on how to manage it? Becuasr im having abit of a hard time managing it. Im not willing to give up tho 🔥 if u have any advice please lmk

I love afros theyre so beautiful!!
Amen.❤❤❤
Agreed! Growing up we had blue magic water and pink lotion lol I’m back to the blue magic bc it’s always been reliable and my hair loves it
I sure wish it was more fragrance free natural hair products around. I’ve became sensitive to many smells and most of these products give me migraines
My God, she has the most GORGEOUS heads of hair EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤
I’m not a person of color, but I still wanna say with my whole heart that your hair is beautiful. It is a valid form of self expression and it is YOUR HAIR!! IT IS YOUR SCALP!! YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU LIKE WITH IT, AND IF YOU WANNA LEAVE IT IN ITS NATURAL STATE THEN YOU CAN!!
YOU ARE VALID AND DESERVING OF LOVE AND RESPECT NO MATTER WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE ♥
This was sweet and I couldn’t agree more! ❤️
i think everything goes to an extent. i love seeing our sisters wear braids and wigs and weave, but when some say things like "i hate having type 4 hair" it's saddening. wearing things over your hair is very cute, but when it comes from a place of self hatred it's sad 🙁
I think it depends because if you did your hair the night before you generally do get to roll out the door.
Natural, relaxed, it dont matter. But the wigs and braids are looking crazy
True especially the wigs. It’s in no way financially feasible (unless you’re a celebrity) to even keep it up
Give me a 1000 braids over 1 cancer causing nasty relaxer.
I disagree I love me some braids! Especially in cute patterns!
@charmaineespeut4627 braids are cute. But I'm talking more about the ones that are too tight and be having people's hairlines behind their ears lolol
@@Handlename726 Oh yeah I agree then the tight ones suck
IM SOOOOO SICK OF BLACK WOMEN NOT LIKING THEIR NATURAL HAIR IS SAD ON EVERY LEVEL...THE SELF-HATRED IS ASTOUNDING
I never had to reinforce that my hair the way it is is beautiful. Even though i grew up in a house that wanted the pressed look. I had a perm at 8. In my 20's I said NOPE. I am 55 now. 😊
As you should! ❤️🥳
I hardly ever see black celebrities wear their natural hair unless they are selling a hair care product then they'll roll it out once or twice & I get tired of some women say they are natural too but never show it lol
Lets get into it!!!
Meant when I 1st went natural 😂*
I heard the term "hair dysphoria" the other day, and it made so much sense.
Can you list your products?
Amen to this beautiful video! 😊
It’s sad that it’s always the ones closest to you
Bruh this is the exact same thing I’m going through.
Totally AGREE!!!
Welcome back miss ya❤❤❤
Thanks! I missed yall too! ❤️❤️
I love braids but I haven’t straightened my hair since 2016. I like wigs for fun but I mostly wear my hair 90% of the time.
I see alot of self hate and natural hair rejection in the " straight hair natural" and " heat trained natural" corners of TH-cam as well.
Many people would rather make excuses for their actions and the actions of others than entertain the idea that they could possibly hate their hair.
Exactly! They’re in denial
It's done and that's it!
Looking forward to the day we all realize that our hair is like the Creators and it is done 😂 we only doubt it because of the evils of WS practices.
That afto is fluffy and popping. My fro would never do this.
I wear my hair in a curly afro and the comments I get at work by white colleagues are very interesting and borderline insulting.
You can't bully Blackwomen to be naturally. Lets focus on getting the single mother rate down, and the obesity down for blackwomen.
Once you get into menapause that obesity will Delete you Pulmonary hypertension , high cholesterol , stroke!
Love all of this but the girl at 08:00 flicking her hair and sounding just like Kim Kardashian needs to do more work as well.
She’s feminine she sounds educated what does she need to work on ? Black women don’t flick their hair ? Black women don’t sound like her ?
@@ilovemycamaro115 I’m sorry if that offended you. I was pointing out my gripes exactly like she was allowed to point out hers. And NO, most Black women do not sound like Kim Kardashian or Paris Hilton. Even Paris Hilton said she was putting on a show. Again I gave my POV just like SHE GAVE HERS.
@ You’re an idiot. You want her to change her voice because you don’t think black women sound like her ? You’re an idiot. You want her to stop playing with her hair because that’s un black woman of her ? Gotcha! You skated past her point which you acknowledged just to say you don’t like her voice and the way she moves her hair.
She is talking calm?
@@ilovemycamaro115Right, because as a PNW native, most of us sound like this😭
🎉😊Absolutely Agree!
