The He 111 began with a crew of 4 (pilot, navigator/bomb-aimer/nose gunner, dorsal gunner/wireless operator, and ventral gunner) the addition of one (sometimes 2) waist gunner(s) only came after these guns were added. The navigator also commanded the aircraft (unlike Allied practice, where the pilot was the senior officer). It's interesting that the canopy is a separate piece ( the pilot could open the canopy, pop up the windscreen in front of it, and raise his seat for an improved view).
You'll like the He111 kit, I have one and I would rate this as the best He111 kit on the market. Very nice restrained surface detail, perforated disc behind the propellers as per the real thing, detailed bomb-bay (by the way, the bombs sit upright on their fins when carried), excellent internal detail which will be visible through that lovely glazed cockpit. 1:48 scale is spot on to do a decent model of this iconic plane, I will be very interested to see a build video on that one, enjoy!
What a fantastic diorama of the He 111 bomber, airfield accessories and pilots/ground crew. From conversations with other modellers the general consensus is that ICM manufacture the best Heinkel He 111 series models in 1/48 scale. I have the paravane version in my “to build stash” and hope to tackle it soon because it is such an interesting concept on the part of the Germans. However it is tempting to obtain this compendium diorama set. Should I or should I not get this model? To buy or not to buy! That is the question!
ICM do undersell themselves with the box description. They should clearly list that everything on the artwork is included. The internal bombs were carried in 8 removable cells. Up to 8 x 250kg bombs (though alternative cells could be used to carry 4 x 50kg bombs in each). Those were loaded nose first with the aid of an internal winch aft the bomb bay, not a bomb loader. That bomb loading trolley (LWC 500) was only suitable for loading external bombs horizontally, up to 500kg. The HE-111 external bomb load up to 2 x 1000kg (more on later models) was too big for it. With external bombs, no internal bombs could be loaded. On the kit itself, assuming the He-111h-3 is the same as the others they released (including the Revell boxing - with a top opening box no less), there are enough parts to make just about any version. Plus you also have a number of spare props, wheels, bombs, canopy parts, and bomb or torpedo carrier, plus bomb door versions, and the individual internal bomb cells. The comparison with the Wellington is interesting, and I too thought it was in the favour of the Wimpey, but in fact they both had very similar range, bomb load, and speed etc, and the Wimpey was somewhat larger 10ft longer & wider, and not as well armoured - though it did have some advantages in construction.
Hi Peter well l quickly went to your score of 9 and 1/2 out of 10 is very good went online and ordered it from Jadlam l think these could fly 🙄and with free postage for £57.95 l paid £60.95 for RM Express because of Christmas and by the way Merry Christmas to you and your wife 🎄what great value and l been thinking I've wanted a 111 and this was perfect thanks of a great review 👍
I have never been disappointed by an ICM kit ! The only downside for me is the quality of the plastic which is a little too soft. Thank you for the vidéo.
@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab Hi Peter, as you say, the camera zoom is better than our old eyes! Just thought it seemed likely as the mechanic has a spoon with his empty plate, ergo, goulash or borscht methinks.
Good stuff Peter. Some weird additions in the set and no "national" tail markings sadly but nice 😊 Sorry missed the stream but left my phone at the gfs and couldn't be bothered to go out in the rotten weather again 😂
@@cyberleaderandy1 Yes, I didn't spot the missing insignia on the tail until I watched the vid back myself...I hope this doesn't mean I am getting slowly brainwashed not to expect it...Don't worry, newer tooled ICM have it back in the splintered design style.👍🏻
...I think l might have knocked another half point off for no sw*stika decals...I thought ICM did a splintered make your own up one? Tell you what though I paid under fifty quid and TBQH it would be worth that almost in 1/72. Regards Richard
@@richardgill-g2l Yes I agree; I only spotted that when the video went live (I commented in the live chat) It's a 2017 tool and now they usually do a splintered one. 👍🏻

All you need is a staff car a guard of honour and you could recreate the opening scenes of the Battle of Britain film
Welcome back its nice to see you back I hope you're feeling better now.

Really rather like this kit. The extra ground crew set may have sold it to me!
