Richard played his Prom in the afternoon and then stayed on and played the Organ for Ben Hur with the John Wilson Orchestra which can also be heard on TH-cam
I know that this is a demonstration clip, but I'm surprised, as well as disappointed, that the Beeb couldn't get a camera view of the pedals. Anyone with pipe organ experience knows that the bass is critically important to the musical structure. It's great to hear it, it's even better to see it being played as well (I'm sure Richard had clean shoes on).
The tuba groove at 1:14 is fabulous! Wish the stop tour would be an hour long..
This is BRILLIANT! I have been ages wanting to hear the percussion stops on the organ - now I have done so! Thank you for posting this! :)
Great. I'm loving the proms this year. Wish i could play the organ like that - he is a star!
brings back a memory of Carlo Curly riding down the main isle on the back of a Cadillac convertible
Gotta love a good organ
It always sounds so majestic at Last Night of the Proms!
Amazing !

this reminds me of my days in SYC were richard would go from playing the piano to in the breaks assembling a salvaged organ he got from an old church
It was on this organ that Wendy Carlos recorded the ending theme from the 1982 Tron film.
Dang! I missed it.
What is that piece at 1:13 please?
thezoltan05 I think he's just improvising :)
Alex Fishburn
Ah yes,thank you!
I already spoke with him.

Why won't the BBC make this available on iplayer? so many of the 2013 concerts are still there
What are the clips at 0.59 to 1.10 and 1.14 to 1.23? Fascinating!
Anyone know what the tune at 1:13 is ?
I wish I had heard this concert. Richard Hills is brilliant. Pity the music in this clip was in mono.
Richard was awesome even back in the 90's when I was at KSR with him :)
Is this the pre-, or post-, restoration organ? The case shown at the beginning looks like the old one.
Avaialable.
The piece at 1:13 could be just an improvisation!
Richard play some big familiar hymns and anthems on this huge organ, not use it as a Theater Organ....please
Why not
