Great share guys. I don't want to be a party pooper, but I will anyway. You are a wheelchair user giving you the benefit of people being able to see that you are disabled. Going through a plethora of perfume bottles and spraying it on yourselves have potentially made it difficult for people with perfume allergies. This isn't visible, but will be once the allergic reaction sets in. It is difficult for these people to travel. Yes I am one of them. The anticipation of meeting these perfumes is terrifying. I am not asking you not to use perfume, but please keep this in mind.❤️

    • @lindybrockington4539
      @lindybrockington4539 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

I was coming here to say this. I would be physically ill the whole flight if I sat anywhere near this family who just doused themselves with perfume. I have invisible disabilities and have bad reactions to strong scents like these. As someone who is disabled, I would think you would keep that in mind before putting all that crap on and then getting in a small metal tube with other people for 10 hours.

I had the surprise joy of going through Copenhagen airport where they had a fragrance free route that allowed you to get through to departures without having to go by the perfumes and honestly was just such a welcome relief. Hopefully more places include these with time too.

Whether there's a jet bridge or not, do what Gem says and do NOT get off the plane until your chair is there! This advice has saved me multiple times. (thank you Gem!) If you're arriving somewhere without a jet bridge, communicate with a flight attendant that your chair is to be at the bottom of the stairs upon arrival. 2/3 trips my chair went to baggage because I said nothing. Last trip it was at the bottom of the stairs.
Tip for Toronto or any major airport with a hotel attached.... Book an accessible room for the night before. (if you have an early flight) The room will be pricey but worth it. Swimming/hot tub the night before, no anxiety about weather, or having family members drive you at the crack of dawn. The hot tub made a huge difference in my pain levels the next day. I also booked an appointment for security. Wheeled right out of Marriott, checked our bags, then skipped the line at security. I wore a t-shirt and lightweight jogger pants to make the pat down easy.
One thing I will say is, no matter your disability, do NOT feel guilty for using accommodations. The staff see disabled people every day. I always feel embarrassed when I skip the customs line at a specific destination. Well last time we couldn't find my suitcase. I was sitting in my chair for awhile. The heat started to hit me and I felt lightheaded and nauseous. If I hadn't cut the line, who knows how I would have been feeling! The airport staff do not want a medical emergency... so just listen to them. lmao

I’ve traveled with folding power chair a couple times now. I had to put my chair in the hold. I used a travel bag to cover my wheelchair. It helped to keep my chair from being scratched and also kept it folded. I took my joystick off and put it in my carryon backpack. I left the batteries in the chair since they were rated to stay in my chair. I have lithium ion batteries so they were light enough to carry if necessary. I had special assistance going through Philadelphia. They are always helpful in Philadelphia international airport. I am ambulatory wheelchair user but I can’t walk the distances you have to in an airport sometimes. Your tip of staying on the plane until my chair was up worked really well when I visited Minnesota. They were very late bringing my chair and a family’s stroller. The flight attendants worked really hard to get my chair up and the stroller. They were short staffed at the airport and nobody was available for 40 minutes. Good thing I didn’t have a connecting flight. My chair let me get to my gates and baggage claim with time to spare!
Enjoy your trip. Last time I was at Disney, I was 10 and my best friend had her birthday there. We lived in Miami and was about a 5 hour drive there. We got there early, stayed the whole day and then drove 5 hours back to Miami and got home at around 2am. We all had a sleepover at her house. That was pretty great trip. I’m sure much has changed in nearly 40 years since I was there.

Due to the avian influenza outbreak back in June, there's a shortage of eggs here in Australia. So things like that roll are a _lot_ harder to get at present.

    09:07 Click the LIKE
Did it straight after starting watching :)
11:11 No aircon, or outdoor summer weather.
That's one _definite_ thing worth having in your bag, a folding paper fan.
12:12 Not my idea of an in flight drink. I prefer lightly sparkling mineral water.
    The snack looks interesting though.
12:38 What brand and colour lip balm are you using, Gem? It looks gorgeous.
14:48 The massaging your legs tip is also important for longer train, bus, or coach rides.
    15:58 iPad battery.
Even having a fully charged, large capacity powerbank, will only get you so far. On board power and a charger is really a must have.
16:24 Cucumber sandwiches, scone with jam and cream. That looks so delicious.

I haven’t been to Disney World since the 90s! Happy 40th Birthday for whenever it was. I turn 40 in October next year and unfortunately I won’t be going to Disney World 😂.
Your experience of travelling by plane looks a lot easier than it was for me back in the day. Last I was on a plane was 2004 with my family when I was 18. There was always something wrong with my chair after a flight. They were always quite rough with my chair and things needed to be fixed but thank goodness it was never anything my family couldn’t fix.
Is being able to take your own chair on board a fairly new thing? There was a documentary on a few weeks ago about flight travel for people with disabilities and it was devastating!

I know there's a lot of confusion circulating about it on various channels, so I just wanted to clarify that the part about filming the security process varies from one country to the next - in the U.S. and any other airports that use TSA (not all foreign airports do, since it's an American thing), you are 100% allowed to film all the way through security as long as certain simple guidelines are followed (don't shove the camera in an officer's face or impede him/her from doing his/her job; don't film hidden screens; don't block the flow of traffic; must allow the camera to be inspected), and it's easier if someone else does the filming if you want to get the whole thing - if the TSA officer says you can't film, he/she is breaking the rules (not all TSA officers know all their rules, as I've learned from my best friend being one for 7 years - there were a few things I had to teach her because she didn't know them); if there will be TSA and you want to film the security process, I highly suggest printing out (instead of having only on your phone) the Q&A page from their website that specifically answers the question (I'd link it here, but then TH-cam would block my comment).

So, you just taught me that the smallest the wheelchair, the most options one would have in terms of access. Which is a bit bittersweet. Because so many people require electrical wheelchairs to move around with less strain and effort. And those are the ones that keep being broken all the time by airline companies.

I’ve been able to use my power folding wheelchair and so far I haven’t had an issue. To do have a travel bag I put over my chair to keep it closed and cut down on the number of scratches it gets. If you have a power chair that is larger, then yes I agree they are the ones that tend to get banged up and broken. I’ve heard the stories and it is absolutely disgusting the way baggage handlers handle wheelchairs. I get they are on tight schedules and short staffed but when you have someone’s “legs” they should be treated with respect.

Quick silly question - the wheelchair you travelled in folded up - is this your permanent chair, or just one you travel in. I am just getting my first chair and had it in my head that a fixed frame was better than one that folds. Whilst ignorance is bliss, it's proven to be more of a pain in the butt as I commence this next stage of my life!

No the fold up chair was my chair before i got my new rigid frame chair , they both have pros and cons , the rigid frame makes it easier for transferring into the car passing it over ones self into the car and also it is set much better for me with more of a bucket (tilt in the seat) which makes a much more comfortable seating position ,so i just didn't want anything to happen to my new chair if it went into the hold , the fold up chair served me well but the setup wasn't quite right it would give me a lot of back pain etc and i didn't really realise until i got my new chair , you bring up a good question and maybe i will do a video on it ,i do have a whole list dedicated to choosing a wheelchair on my channel if that helps, thanks for commenting🙂❤

Look into an RGK FX model! I have one and it’s a rigid axel but the backrest and the smaller wheels fold down and it fits in an overhead locker on the plane!
That’s what I have and I’ve been on 8 flights and it’s never been in the hold!

Did you qualify for DAS? Under the new system it’s unlikely you would qualify, could you do a video talking about that and if that’s put you off visiting Disney Florida again?

It's amazing to me that people apparently don't have offline media, but I'm used to never having any sort of connection (internet or mobile signal) once I leave the house so obviously all music/videos/books are going to be saved offline on a portable device. (MP3 player/PSP/Vita etc)
Having audio tapes as a little little kid before these digital things started me off with that I think XD
Especially if you're going on a plane, why wouldn't you have your stuff pre-downloaded the night before? There's no reliable internet on these things if at all.
