I'd like to sincerely thank you for all of your videos. They are some of the best I've ever seen. It's very gracious of you to share your knowledge and skill with all of us. Thank you !
Great instruction Jeff. Been on deployment for 5 months and this really helped me calm down and focus on form. I might even feel comfortable taking the bow out for the last 2 weeks of deer season here in GA. Thanks again!
Thanks Jeff! This video has been tremendously helpful. While I did not hang a string, I visualized the string handing straight down. My groups immediately became tighter with few erratic shots. Most of my shots are now in the gold. Many thanks!
Thanks for all those Videos Jeff. I miss seeing new content on YT, I really miss it as you have such a great way to teach, even you're thousands kilometers away. If possible, please let us again participate in your knowledge!
Our internet here is so bad that it has become too frustrating trying to down load videos. That why I have stopped making them. It is just not worth all the aggravation. This summer my kids and I are planning on making a couple of DVDs which will go much further into detail about shooting, bow tuning, etc., and we are hoping to have them available by next fall.
Jeff, I'm throughly impressed at the knowledge you possess in the archery world. I've watched many of your teachings and have become a lot more proficient archer as a result. Just yesterday ( 15/9/02 )after I watched your vid on the Vertical Line in archery, I put 2 arrows in the same hole then with the 3rd arrow "Robin Hooded the last arrow. I thank you again, please keep sharing your expertise to us enthusiasts as you make it a great joy to be apart of the art of archery.
Jeff, this particular drill and your vid on release have helped me more than any other traditional archery instruction videos on you tube. Once I started doing this my shooting improved leaps and bounds in a very short amount of time. I was stuck at ten to fifteen yards until I started doing this drill. Now Im moving out to 20, 30, 40 and occasionally 50 yards. Thank you for sharing!
Jeff, your video on vertical shooting has advanced my shooting so much. After several months of shooting at a red ribbon I am getting the feel and my arrows are grouping up and down the vertical line. It's becoming to feel natural. Thanks for all your great teaching videos. Hope you and your family are in good health. Bob Joswick, Broken Arrow, OK.
Jeff this video is great. Its such a simple concept but I was missing it. Its helped my shot dramatically. Thank for these videos. I Just got into archery and have a horsebow and you have been the best source for instinctive archery tips.
hey I bin shooting traditional for almost 10years n I'm a certified instructor your videos are what most should be watching keep up the great info bro.
You nailed it! I saw this video two days ago and thought I would try it the next time I practiced. I was a few arrows into shooting in my back yard and remembered, but didn't have any sting handy, so picked up a small twig and stuck it on the target. My second arrow broke the twig in two! The rest of the practice was almost as good. THANKS SO MUCH for the excellent advice!!!
Hey Jeff! I just wanted to say that I love your videos! I started recurve shooting around a year ago, and under your instruction, have become a fair shooter. Thank you for what you do for us all, and please, Keep em coming! Thank you again!
Thank you.. as of last Friday (12-16-16) it had been 25 yrs sense I picked up a bow.. I was gifted a SAS Courage take-down recurve. It came with 40# and 55# limbs.. I have watched most of your videos like this one and I have had so many questions (about what I had forgotten) that this video and your other training videos have answered..
Hi Jeff. I've been away from bows for 10 yrs. Compound/recurve/longbow. And now shooting w/ the longbow with both eyes open for the first time. Never thought I could hit anything. Thanks to you I'm shooting better than ever! Your videos are not only instructional, but motivational, too. At 15 ft. keeping all arrows w/in 1/2 to 1/4 inch of the vertical string. The string really helps w/ focus. Just great. Hope you have a terrific new year. Dave.
Hey Jeff, I'd like to thank you a lot for this very helpful video. I shall now be practicing this until either my arms fall off (or my bowstring - whichever comes first) Cheers, good Sir! Wish you all the best.
I too want to thank you Jeff for these informative videos. Just am getting into traditional archery without any instructors available. Seems everyone out here is using compound bows. I really want to focus on traditional. I like what you and the kids do with instinctive archery. Haven't bought a bow yet...not sure where to start, just focusing on shooting arrows and trying to guide myself with form.
Mind. Blown. Never thought about instinctive just being the elevation of the shot. Makes perfect sense now! Thanks! Will try this practice technique out today
I started practicing Archery about 3 weeks ago, only one day per week. Today I tried to shot instinctively following the tips in your videos and I'm amazed :D I started 10 yards, then 20 and then 25 and i believe i did pretty well :) I will keep practicing this way, Thank you for your videos!
Great video. Thought I've seen most of yours, don't know how I missed this one. Definitely going to focus in on this tutorial. I've gotten pretty decent at instinctive archery over the past couple of years. I've never shot a compound, don't own one, don't intend to either. Started of on a longbow and intend to only shoot instinctive archery. But you're right, I'll have an awesome grouping from 15 yards out and then one flyer that goes left or right. This string technique is great. Thanks for the video again Jeff.
Jeff,I just ordered an old Bear Kodiak 60# , 44# off of ebay. I sure hope it's as good as described. I know how much you love yours. I find your ideas and methods of improving accuracy and form to be extremely helpful. Keep up the good work.
Your barn is amazing! You have a zamboni hiding in there as well?? Love your videos. My first bow should be here today and I have been watching all your videos to learn as much as I can. We'll see if any of it sticks in my brain but I like your method and your accuracy is most impressive. Thanks for all the instructional vids.
Thanks for the video. As someone just starting to shoot traditional I can sometimes start to see vague patterns/rules emerging in my shooting, but often just can't exactly figure it out why I am grouping to the left or why all of a sudden I'm shooting high. Seeing this video really gave me a "ahhh now I get it" moment that helped explain some of the things I was experiencing. Thanks again.
Looking forward to putting this into my practice, Thank You! Busted up my whole draw side (neck, arm, and shoulder!) last week clearing brush in the yard to give myself a longer distance (25 yard) target that I probably don't even need yet... Finally healed up enough that I'm going to use the original 10 yard target today.
I bought a recurve a week ago online, and did nothing but watch videos on archery all week. Over this week, I took it out everyday. I currently have twelve arrows. I tried to gap shoot for the first three days, and could only land 6 or 7 arrows to a stack or 4 hay bales. I kept shooting high. Then I started shooting instinctive, and landed 12 out of 12 the first round.
Great stuff. It is amazing what power the mind has and its abilities to do things. Be patient though. I've been at this thing for 43 years and still have plenty of bad days.
Great advise Jeff. Everything you teach has helped me improve and I can already see how this will too. Thank you very much for sharing and merry Christmas.
Brilliant piece of instruction Jeff, and very well articulated. I'm just getting into instinctive shooting with my Bear Grizzly and I look forward to going through all your videos.
Thank you very much Mr Kavanagh for your videos and all that you do to teach good archery. LOL Watching your target when you're shooting at the end . . . your arrows really zing in there fast and hard for only being a 35# bow, pretty cool ! Thanks again !
Hi Jeff: After 6 months of shooting my 40 lb Bear Grizzly and researching "how to shoot instinctively" i find that this video and also your two videos about the release have helped my quite a bit to "forge and temper" my form to minimize unnecessary movements--to simplify and purify, if you will. So, i was wondering if you have any videos to maybe comment on how your shooting has gotten to the magical level. You are really inspiring. Thank you very much for taking the time to teach. Zen Archery Sensei Suzuki Sincerely, randy
About to go to a session with the local club. Usually, when the kids leave at 20:00, I have the close targets all for myself. Just packed a string :) Great idea.
Excellent concept. I figured instinctive was just hit or miss and that's it. I'm going to have to try shooting lines even though I shoot target style with a sight. I know there's also a tuning method that uses a line.
Hi Jeff great awesome teaching my form is so good from the day i started to follow your videos and it gets better everyday this video will helps more. And by the way you are a great father i love that i see you are a family man and how you teach your children.
How’s it goin’ Jeff I’ve just returned from our little range 🏹 here. I shot your vertical line. What a great way of dividing up form and distance. I shot pretty good. At 15m l hit the white ribbon twice. I love your videos and the advice-thank you
Hi Jeff ...you are the best! Very informative videos! I learn so much watching ..so, here's a question: I practice recurve bow shooting ...I simply do not like the 'accessories' that come with a typical Olympic recurve bow ...I was wondering if I could switch to a simpler/traditional recurve/longbow easily? Intuitive shooting ...would I need training like I did for the Olympic recurve?
When the English military trained their archers I believe they called this exercise "shooting the wand". A very good method to tighten up left and right misses.
Yes, I saw that on History Squad with Kevin Hicks. The English archers shooting the wand. Archery is truly an international tradition... hoping all's well with you and your's Jeff and thanks for sharing your knowledge.❤ from Australia 🌏.
Thank you for this fine video Jeff. I think you really hit the nail on the head when you described instinctive archery like throwing a ball. This video in particular inspired me to take a break today from target archery and I had lots of fun trying your vertical method. The end of your video really peaked my interest when you said you use lighter weight bows for practice, implying that you use heavier bows for when you are "really" shooting. My guess is that you practice more than when you're actually out to shoot something. With your instinctive archery, how do you reconcile the weight differences when only possibly getting a one arrow opportunity with a heavier bow? Is it the same as how I would if I were throwing balls of different sizes and densities?
Jeff I've learned a great deal from watching your tutorials. One thing I dont get is what is the most common cause of straying off to the left or right. I'm still trying to perfect my shooting form and at present left/rightcentre seem to occur about even. Any tips for what is the most likely cause? Thanks
Hey Jeff. Well put together video. That's the exercise I practice since I started 25yrs ago. I wonder if you tried the other exercise/drill on hand/eye coordination I emailed you in the step by step text. Again Good video.
Hi Jeff, I am only beginning archery and find your articles are great. From what I understand when you shoot an arrow it travels in a line parallel to where you are aiming, and so will to the side of where your bow is aimed. Do you aim at a vertical line to the right of your string? Or how do you compensate for the offset? Thanks
I shoot at a small straw bail a lot and after a while, I start getting a lot of arrows passing through. How many arrows have you lost inside those big bails or if none, how have you prevented it? Great videos by the way, gets me so motivated to go practice.
I've been shooting bows off and on for 15+ years and I'll say this...I aim the same way when I play billiards which I play better then my archery skills but it's all the same. I look at my cue ball just like my arrow tip and then look at my object ball just like the target and shoot instinctively. It's not about aim...it's about being warm and knowing or being in the zone then aiming. Good shooting
Hi Jeff, I have a question regarding canting the bow during a hunting situation. I have greatly improved my shooting form, accuracy, and overall, I am shooting the best I ever have in my life, mostly thanks to the final piece, the DEEP HOOK. However, I get into the field and I draw on a deer, I cannot see the arrow finish on target to the animal, mostly because with my vertical bow position, I am blocked with a clear path to see the arrow flight. Just spent a training session following this advice. Really worked. Thank you and keep it up! Great to see you back at fighting fitness too!
This is brilliant! Just worked on it on my garage and found that as long as I anchored properly, it works well.
Hey Jeff,
Thanks so much for this tip. It really helped to break it apart, and make it easier to work on form - one aspect at a time.
Thanks for that video! Next important aspects of archery in simple words! You`re the man!
Hi Jeff. Thank you for the lesson on how to improve the form. Merry Christmas
Really great video Jeff - its a lightbulb moment for me. 1 axis at a time and form = left/right, judgement = up/down. I'll try that out tomorrow
Thank you! I realize this is exactly how I aim my iron shots in golf. Now I can apply that same thought process.
Great advise Jeff. Everything you teach has helped me improve and I can already see how this will too. Thank you very much for sharing and merry Christmas.

Very nice Jeff. Great info on a practice session.
Great Exercise. Off to practice. Thanx Jeff !!
I look forward to working on this. I am brand new to bows and absolutely loving it! (Have done 3 sessions... I'm REALLY new...)
Thank you. Superb clarity in your explanation. A big help. Subscribed.
Wow finally found someone who can teach me something with his videos :) glad i found you :3

Great video Jeff - we at S3 Archery have not tried this before but will definitely have to. Great tip!
Good info.... I never thought of doing that as I have always used by bow string to find the vertical line....
How’s it goin’ Jeff
I’ve just returned from our little range 🏹 here. I shot your vertical line. What a great way of dividing up form and distance. I shot pretty good. At 15m l hit the white ribbon twice. I love your videos and the advice-thank you

great job on the video and instructions
Helpful videos Jeff! Thanks for sharing
I found that flest Rausing the bow and lowering in a vertikal line like they do in turkish archery improved side to side accuracy
Great practice tip and thanks for sharing...!
With all the bows you have, how long does it take you to dial in with each one when you switch between them ??
Jeff I've learned a great deal from watching your tutorials. One thing I dont get is what is the most common cause of straying off to the left or right. I'm still trying to perfect my shooting form and at present left/rightcentre seem to occur about even. Any tips for what is the most likely cause?
Thanks
Another great vid Jeff, thanks .
Hey Jeff. Well put together video.
That's the exercise I practice since I started 25yrs ago.
I wonder if you tried the other exercise/drill on hand/eye coordination I emailed you in the step by step text.
Again Good video.
Hi Richard. Thanks for sharing but I don't think I received it. I would love to check it out though.
Great tip..Thanks Jeff.
Jeff-that is a great tip -thanks
Holy smokes, I just went outside with a string and shot better immediately!
Thanks Jeff!
I wish I could like your videos more than once..
Start at 5 yds ,how I learned !
Good info and very well made video.
Great explanation Jeff, of a very important aspect ... :)
Hi Jeff,
I am only beginning archery and find your articles are great. From what I understand when you shoot an arrow it travels in a line parallel to where you are aiming, and so will to the side of where your bow is aimed. Do you aim at a vertical line to the right of your string? Or how do you compensate for the offset?
Thanks
Jeff is such a good teacher. I think Jeff should do a vid with hickok 45.
I was just thinking about this tonight. Not to worry about a little high or low. But to work on left and right and then on distance.
I'm giving this a go. As soon as it stops raining. Cheers!
I shoot at a small straw bail a lot and after a while, I start getting a lot of arrows passing through. How many arrows have you lost inside those big bails or if none, how have you prevented it? Great videos by the way, gets me so motivated to go practice.

I look at my cue ball just like my arrow tip and then look at my object ball just like the target and shoot instinctively. Can't wait to try this. Thanks for the tip and Merry Christmas!
Did you build a hockey rink in your barn?
Hi Jeff,
I have a question regarding canting the bow during a hunting situation.
So, I was thinking about canting to improve and open my slight window and getting lumenocks to help my old eyes track my arrow to target or to miss which is just as important because I need to see my arrow.
I would appreciate you input and comments.
Thank you
