It makes it slightly more authentic even though this is just a lighthearted comparison.

I met Moog last night in the queue for Jacob Collier's gig in Enmore, Sydney. If you don't know his music, check him out... Absolutely mind-blowing. What also really blew my mind was Moog's absolute kindness and graciousness. Despite two random fans interrupting his conversation, it seemed he had all the time in the world for us. He even invited us to skip the queue to keep chatting with him. We didn't want to intrude on his night but I couldn't believe his offer. Thank you Moog for making the night even more special. You know a pro driver when they're doing a flying lap whilst also able to do commentary on every turn. Luke makes it look so easy, like it's a bloody walk in the park for him lol.
Standard practice for real drivers, lots of great benefits from thinking out loud and talking about what you're doing while doing it, other than educational purposes
Luke is amazing. I did a V8 experience with him at Eastern Creek years ago. When he did a hot lap with me I asked him to show me what the car could do. The g’s were crazy.
No joke this is my favorite series so far. I just sold my MK7 and picked up a M240i because I couldn't find a MK8R. Having regrets because now that I've sold the MK7 GTI I've realized how great of a vehicle it was.
@@thoth111 My M240I is xDrive I should've noted that. Both tuned the GTI was more fun. The M240i is fast but zero drama. The GTI was a riot on the canyons we have here in California, pushing the tires near the limit and hearing tires screeching. My M240i xDrive was honestly kind of dangerous because it didn't get fun until you pushed to dangerous levels of speed.
They are usually my favorite if they edit it properly. It's hard to capture the joy of driving on a track -- while driving on a track. I took my friends for a few hot laps this summer but I can't drive and tell them what I'm doing at the same time...at least not if I'm going flat out.
I did not expect Luke to be so talkative on his lap. It was pretty awesome. I know I didn't understand everything he said but I feel like, eventually, I might. He really kept up in front of the camera and you should absolutely have him on the show again.
I know Marty taking the piss, a few episodes ago but I love my golfs/ VW's. been away for the last year travelling around the world. got back to the UK just before Christmas, had a scirocco R in storage and just a few days ago bought a MK 8 golf R ( having owned the MK7.5 before). My dad owned a GTI years ago and had many happy memories with him whilst driving it, now I want to make new memories with my daughter (11yo) when I get the chance to see her ( very stressful personal life reason why I don't see her every day as you can imagine). will be ordering new chopped finger decals soon for it and cannot wait to go on late night drives through the city in my new MK8. followed you guys for years and I love you both, honestly you keep me sane, if it wasn't for the love of cars I would be in a terrible place today so thank you.

I had so many flashbacks when he started mentioning the not having dreams and the ending was the cherry on top. Amazing as always Pd: rewatched the end of the Evo 9 and when he woke up, back then he was working with supergramps
I've gone, kind of the best of both worlds. Mk7.5 alltrack. DSG and 4motion. Slightly heavier wagon sure. I've done some good mods, IE intake, turbo erbow, and intercooler, is20turbo, custom exhaust (res delete, 2.75" pipes to 2.5" pipes at the splitter, stock mufflers with nice tips. Stage 3 ECU tune + TCU. Currently does highish 4sec 0-100s on launch control. With some better/new tyres, we can scrub a bit more off that time, and could takeome extra weight out of the boot if I really wanted some reduction. Still has flappy paddles, and brakes are the same as the GTI not the R. On the down side it is the 1.8, not a 2L, but it's faster than a stage 1 Golf R even with only an is20. Such a fun platform. Love this video, and Luke would be a great regular addition. So natural on the camera and amazing commentries, really informative.

@Waka Flocka Project turbo is bigger in the R, if you're going to track the car there are more coolers on the R, usually the R is basically a fully loaded car and the GTI can be specified as poverty spec if desired
@@damiendegrasse power can easily be attained via a stage 1 map. The engine is very similar that being a 2.0 litre. I suppose it has a bigger turbo and few other bits to match. The price tag is also much larger
I got a 17' R which works great with the AWD in the white stuff and most of the driving I do with it is cruising on the highway or commuting to work is comfortable with power when needed. But I was desperately searching for a GTI and just couldnt find one that suited my preferences for color and a 6MT.
I feel like you guys have been having more fun with the vids lately, and the quality and creativity is the best it's ever been... really happy to see it for y'all.
@mightycarmods Brilliant. Sometimes y'all sell the schtick really well, sometimes it just gets an eye roll. I was expecting the Marty-in-a-VW bit was gonna earn an eye roll. I was wrong. Moog calling out the snarky eyes was pretty good, but the the bit was cemented as legendary by: "it was front wheel yyyyeeaeaaarrgg" And @KingTeamRacing was epic. Great commentary while flogging the VAGs, and didn't lock up bantering with you legends. Thanks guys!
Nicely done on the ending, and the foreshadowing was perfect! Also, didn’t realize the R was FWD biased unless there was need for power to the rear. I just had figured it was 50/50 around town, with the ability to send 90% to either end... not sure where I got that idea!
according to the interballs, "in the past, VW used a Haldex AWD system that could send up to (but no more than) half of the engine's torque to the rear wheels, but for the mk8, VW opted for a torque-vectoring rear differential that can send 100 percent of the engine's torque to an individual wheel (via a multiplate clutch)"; maybe Luke should have had the R in drift mode?
That was a surprise, I expected the GTI to be a decent bit quicker on track where the awd is more of a weight penalty than grip advantage. Good news for me as a mk8 R owner.
It's definitely a track that will help the GTI more than the R with a driver more inclined to FWD in a single hot lap on a new track where the R was lapped first and the GTI was modified. And still the R came out faster. Driver even said he felt like there was more in the R and didn't say the same of the GTI. This was best case scenario for the GTI. For what it's worth I did once own a Mk7 GTI and a 7.5 Golf R. The GTI definitely feel more responsive and lighter, due to the lighter drivetrain and smaller turbo, but I find the R much nicer to drive and much more powerful.
Ironically, this was the very scenario I faced in 2018. I went to upgrade my MK VI GTI to a Golf R, but when I got to the dealership, everything changed. They had a 9k mi. VWOA CPO GTI MK VII Autobahn, basically a FWD Golf R with a sunroof (not available on the R) that was about $18,500 cheaper out the door. And because it came from corporate, all the wear items were replaced (e.g. new tires, brake pads etc.) vs just passing inspection. With the difference I had the GTI tuned to ~350HP; I bought a compact pickup for winter duty (and was able to sell my snow tires); AND I bought a 1 year old snowmobile. Talk about a no-brainer. I still love the Golf R in Lapiz blue though.
I'm sure Luke has better stuff to do, but I would love a series of him taking all of the MCM cars round the track and reviewing them from a professional race driver perspective.
My Mark 7.5 R with a clutch pedal and buttons i can turn and push is all about FUUUNNNN and analog with just enough tech!!!! Im going on a diet as well. Awesome video. Beyond the BADGE!
Yeah, I think I prefer the PuRiTY of the GTI. I've heard that the R isn't quite as chuckable into a corner, and I'm not too interested in the red light GP either, so the AWD is hard to justify 🤷♂🤷♂

I test drove a 2019 R, then a couple weeks later went and bought a 2019 GTI and I've never regretted the choice. This series has just cemented that :D

Yeah, I think I prefer the PuRiTY of the GTI. I've heard that the R isn't quite as chuckable into a corner, and I'm not too interested in the red light GP either, so the AWD is hard to justify 🤷♂🤷♂
