- Yesterday I had to say goodbye to my best friend. Maple passed away peacefully during the night, while I held her in my arms. We have spent every moment together for over 12 years, doing everything together. I adopted her from a rescue shelter and the first time we met she tackled me, leaping into my arms, wagging her tail so hard and with a smiling face full of love. We went on so many adventures together, and she was always there for me with her unconditional love through difficult times. Music helped to soothe and comfort her, especially when she was feeling anxious during thunderstorms and fireworks so I would play for her to help calm her down. She would lay beside me with her head in my lap and listen to the guitar until she fell asleep. I feel so lucky to have had her in my life, the bond we shared is indescribable and my heart is aching.
There are a lot of videos that I filmed with Maple which I never posted on TH-cam, or videos I didn't finish editing, that I might release in the future. I hope that some of the moments we shared together over the years have helped to bring some joy or comfort to you. Thank you for the love and support you have shown us.

I agree and why should a tortoise live 150 years? Dogs are only given a little time because they are only here long enough to teach us to love one another. I've lost 3 dogs to cancer and I don't think I could bare another heart break. I'll get another friend soon, I'm tired of being alone.

I lost my Boston terrier last year and I didn't want another dog. But I ended up with my sister in laws Great pyrinnies and she's not the dog I expected or particularly wanted. But I love her as much as my old dog and I can't imagine life without any of my pets. Yes, it's sad when we lose them. But we are blessed with them while we are together. There's another animal out there that needs your love.
I feel you, 16/17 years comes close to feel like a lifetime, because depending on where you are in your life, it pretty much is a chapter in your life. A chapter you have shared with a dear friend. Worth it. May you remember the times with him often.

@@kagamiryo615 I felt that pain too when I had to put my girl down...but looking back on it now, my desire to keep her alive longer, maybe prolonged her suffering a few weeks more than I should have. Luckily I have a strong wife, and she got through to me to just let the circle of life happen. My only regret is that I wasn't strong enough and I was selfish, because I wanted her around forever. It's life. I still kick myself for those last two weeks. That beats me up more now than her passing.

Found this video a few weeks ago and was heart broken hearing about Maple, even though it was 2 years ago. But had to come back as my family and I are saying goodbye to our sweet, loving, loyal, and protective 11 year old German Shepherd, Lucy, tomorrow. Losing a fur companion, especially dogs and cats, is one of the most devastating things that could ever happen. I'm truly dreading tomorrow 😥

For 12 years, this person has had Maple, and even with a few months or a week with any dog or cat, you'd probably get a sort of friendship that you'd be sad if they died. Even if you didn't meet that dog/cat in person, it's still sad to hear they died (not like you'd cry, but it's still sad to hear). It took me 2 years to accept that my baby is dead. She was such a good dog but died because of a virus.
More than one day of sadness. Believe me
I have a depressive personality and often fixate on the fact that I won't have my dog forever. But I'm realizing that this worry is robbing me of the current moment, when I have him. I'm trying to be better about accepting death as part of life and knowing not to take what I have now for granted OR treating it as this fragile thing and fixating on when it ends. When the day comes I'll want to know that I was truly present with my best friend.

My puppy is 1 and I already dread the day. I don't know why that fear suddenly creeps into my mind from time to time but it reminds me to appreciate every minute I have with my pup and to just enjoy her presence, unconditional love and endless supply of laughs she provides. Love you, Lucy girl.

A person can have many dogs during their lifetime, but a dog only have "one" person during its lifetime. Through the years we were able to see how much Maple loved and enjoyed being with you while you played. Be sure you were the best friend she could have ever asked for. And be sure she now rests still listening to you playing the guitar. I wish you strength to deal with this, because it can't be and it's not easy. It never is. And to you all that read this comment, treat your pet partners with every little drop of love you have. Because they deserve it, and that's all they got throughout their passage in this world.
