The main reason she was being so quiet is because she has a hearing issue. That’s why he had to repeat her questions to her while she was looking at his face. Just letting you know.
She seems almost scared to speak, excited to be apart of something but unsure if she should even engage. I hope she finds her voice and they can turn their lives around.

My longest stint was 10 days with no sleep and that was on the old school meth from 15 years ago. Dope back then had "Legs" on it. I seriously doubt he was up 49 days without being totally out of his mind. Especially since he shoots it..
As an addictions counsellor and former addict myself I can promise you that staying awake for 49 days straight is not possible. That mine would go insane. I am a crystal meth user myself who has been clean 8-years and the longest I stayed awake was a week. At that point I was hearing things that weren't there, seeing bugs in my apartment and on my floor, and having conversations with entities that nobody else could see. That was after one week. It's absolutely impossible to stay awake for 49 days straight.
That reminds me of a day when I was really high and decided to kick all of the "ghosts" out of my house, lol...I could swear I saw them leaving through the backyard fence.
I have chronic anxiety and my heart goes out to Amber, I see her shaking with nervousness and anxiety. I’ve been like that before and it’s like living in an absolute hell…anxiety that is severe will stop you from performing basic daily functions like going to work, going to the grocery, etc. i couple imagine dealing with it and being homeless with Lurch on top of it. Im so thankful that I found an amazing psychiatrist and am practicing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy along with my Xanax prescription to take as needed. My heart goes out to her because I can literally feel her anxiety through the screen. 💔💔
I really mean this with no hate but man, I do not miss people like this while I was active in my addiction. He is someone who is very hard to be around, I’m exhausted just listening to him for 22:13.

Also...my husband is a retired professional fire fighter from the Huntington Fire Department. He was working his shift on that day in 2016 when there were several overdoses. He was the Captain at #4. Citywide there were 26 overdoses, 6 of the overdoses occured in my husband's district alone. And him saying 80% of Huntington is HIV positive is utterly ridiculous!!

I was in recovery with William. He was a really nice guy with a rough past. He would give you the shirt off his back, do anything for you. He relapsed and he died in Charleston wv.. rip William

Anyone who’s been in the drug world knows a “Lurch”. Never ever known one to get sober, for long. Unfortunately they have to learn to stay sober and to do that, delete their character and restart from scratch. Because for them, it’s not just a few character defects to fix, their whole character is defective.
it's sort of humorous to me how he's totally contemptuous towards the providers who toil to try and help him and Amber. He talks shit on local providers Harmony House, The Mission, etc, for not helping him enough, or not helping him the right way. I work as a drug counselor for homeless and probationers, I'm always wondering if there's a better way of doing things re: outreach and assistance to the homeless. It's just so difficult when people are not ready to change.
I totally agree it is truth that you have too revert to scratch to start again and learn to become whole ,you have to understand that for not only the people that love you and wish you well but for yourself and soul you must make a change and be committed to it no matter what

I would say there's definitely a 'type' per say, of person who acts like this, or people who over exaggerate stories. People who have an ego complex or like people who wanna look 'harder'. I've been sober for 7 years from same thing but it feels like all I did was remove the drugs and the people I knew. It's not that simple imo. I always think of it in the extremes like if life is what you make it well I wish I could make it so I had extreme wealth, perfect body, and perfect love all stuff that's near impossible so I disagree with life is what you make it. @@BethRazz I understand what you're getting at.in 2013 I went to prison. My kids went to foster care. My mom was doing heroin, and my dad is a alcoholic so noone could take them. I did 1.5 yrs in prison, and got out with less than 6 months to get custody of my kids back before the 2 yrs are up and they'd be adoptable. In 6 month with NO support what so ever, I had a job, house and car and got them back. My daughter is now 19 and at Akron University in Ohio on full scholarship. My son is 16 and in high school. I had 3 more since then. But grinded and grinded. I had no choice. I had to prevail. Now I've been at my job for over 6 yrs and make $80+k a year. Drive a Mercedes-Benz. And did it all myself. All the excuses didn't matter. Couldn't matter. I had to succeed and I'm still only getting further and further every day. With no support either. My 3 youngest don't even know what a grandma and grandpa are. They just think all older ppl are grandma and grandpas.😔 so needless to say, I don't do well with the excuses. If anyone should have fallen, it should have been me.
I just have to comment on this. I am from West Virginia, born and raised there. I have lived in Huntington, WV and I could not get out of that place fast enough. That city is ROUGH. Everything he says about West Virginia is true. Appalachian people are very tough, but it is such a difficult culture. Families generally do not support each other and the poverty is horrible. What he said about drugs being the only thing there for you is a sad but true fact about West Virginia. So many people I went to school with have died of overdoses. I pray these two can get off the drugs. It's so hard.

I have worked at both harmony house and the city mission in Huntington WV. The only way to be refused food is if you get banned for violence, threatening etc. Usually the mission will give a bag lunch if that happens. These services are amazing and helps the homeless IF they do what they are supposed to.
Don’t judge. Listen and try to help. These are the people homeless. Drug addicts. Asking for help. They are people. Human beings that deserve to be cared for.

I went to college at Marshall University in Huntington, and I had to leave after my junior year because of all the crime and drugs in the city. My car got broken into 6 times, windows smashed, house broken into.. It’s really unfortunate because it’s such a beautiful city. They need to have more resources in Huntington, it’s very sad.
I went to school (albeit briefly) in Waverly west Virginia back in 1999. Beautiful area, beautiful people. I understand now tho, that the area is overcome with drugs, it makes me sad for sure.

I always wonder what kind of life would’ve been possible had so many people interviewed on this channel had been given actual loving parents. Lurch seems like a nice guy, definitely a victim of his circumstances. I’ve been in their situation where all I had to my name was a few bags of clothes that I took from hotel to hotel or sleeping in my car. Homelessness feeds addiction. It’s next to impossible to get clean unless you have a stable place to live and are away from all your old people, places and things that you did drugs with. In 13 days, I will be 4 years clean. It is possible!

I wish that all women could find a way to see the possibility of leaving. It can happen. He was likely microsleeping along the way. But yeah, it's highly likely that there's some extra "spice" added to the stories he tells

I have had people tell me they have been awake for 9 days and i thought that was a stretch. 49 days, your body would shut down on its own before then.

I have chronic anxiety and my heart goes out to Amber, I see her shaking with nervousness and anxiety. I’ve been like that before and it’s like living in an absolute hell…anxiety that is severe will stop you from performing basic daily functions like going to work, going to the grocery, etc. i couple imagine dealing with it and being homeless with Lurch on top of it. Im so thankful that I found an amazing psychiatrist and am practicing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy along with my Xanax prescription to take as needed. My heart goes out to her because I can literally feel her anxiety through the screen. 💔💔

Also...my husband is a retired professional fire fighter from the Huntington Fire Department. He was working his shift on that day in 2016 when there were several overdoses. He was the Captain at #4. Citywide there were 26 overdoses, 6 of the overdoses occured in my husband's district alone.

Anyone who’s been in the drug world knows a “Lurch”. Never ever known one to get sober, for long. Unfortunately they have to learn to stay sober and to do that, delete their character and restart from scratch. Because for them, it’s not just a few character defects to fix, their whole character is defective.
it's sort of humorous to me how he's totally contemptuous towards the providers who toil to try and help him and Amber. He talks shit on local providers Harmony House, The Mission, etc, for not helping him enough, or not helping him the right way. I work as a drug counselor for homeless and probationers, I'm always wondering if there's a better way of doing things re: outreach and assistance to the homeless. It's just so difficult when people are not ready to change.

My dad is a alcoholic. And I've got a wife, 5 kids, 3 cars, a house, beautiful home, and amazing job. Life is what u make it. Gotta do something about it.
I've been sober for 7 years from same thing but it feels like all I did was remove the drugs and the people I knew. It's not that simple imo. I always think of it in the extremes like if life is what you make it well I wish I could make it so I had extreme wealth, perfect body, and perfect love all stuff that's near impossible so I disagree with life is what you make it. Kudos on getting where you want to be tho.

@@BethRazz I understand what you're getting at.in 2013 I went to prison. My kids went to foster care. My mom was doing heroin, and my dad is a alcoholic so noone could take them. I did 1.5 yrs in prison, and got out with less than 6 months to get custody of my kids back before the 2 yrs are up and they'd be adoptable. In 6 month with NO support what so ever, I had a job, house and car and got them back. My daughter is now 19 and at Akron University in Ohio on full scholarship. My son is 16 and in high school. I had 3 more since then. But grinded and grinded. I had no choice. I had to prevail. Now I've been at my job for over 6 yrs and make $80+k a year. Drive a Mercedes-Benz. And did it all myself. All the excuses didn't matter. Couldn't matter. I had to succeed and I'm still only getting further and further every day. With no support either. My 3 youngest don't even know what a grandma and grandpa are. They just think all older ppl are grandma and grandpas.😔 so needless to say, I don't do well with the excuses. If anyone should have fallen, it should have been me.
I just have to comment on this. I am from West Virginia, born and raised there. I have lived in Huntington, WV and I could not get out of that place fast enough. That city is ROUGH. Everything he says about West Virginia is true. Appalachian people are very tough, but it is such a difficult culture. Families generally do not support each other and the poverty is horrible. What he said about drugs being the only thing there for you is a sad but true fact about West Virginia. So many people I went to school with have died of overdoses. I pray these two can get off the drugs. It's so hard.

I have worked at both harmony house and the city mission in Huntington WV. The only way to be refused food is if you get banned for violence, threatening etc. Usually the mission will give a bag lunch if that happens. These services are amazing and helps the homeless IF they do what they are supposed to.
Don’t judge. Listen and try to help. These are the people homeless. Drug addicts. Asking for help. They are people. Human beings that deserve to be cared for.

I went to college at Marshall University in Huntington, and I had to leave after my junior year because of all the crime and drugs in the city. My car got broken into 6 times, windows smashed, house broken into.. It’s really unfortunate because it’s such a beautiful city. They need to have more resources in Huntington, it’s very sad.
I went to school (albeit briefly) in Waverly west Virginia back in 1999. Beautiful area, beautiful people. I understand now tho, that the area is overcome with drugs, it makes me sad for sure.

I've known a lot of people like them. Most of them are dead now. My cousin lives in SE Kentucky and he said about half the people there are on drugs.

Lurch seems like a nice guy, definitely a victim of his circumstances. I’ve been in their situation where all I had to my name was a few bags of clothes that I took from hotel to hotel or sleeping in my car. Homelessness feeds addiction. It’s next to impossible to get clean unless you have a stable place to live and are away from all your old people, places and things that you did drugs with. In 13 days, I will be 4 years clean. It is possible!

@@GrabinGears it’s really sad. I came from an abusive relationship before I married a good man, it was hard to leave but I did. I wish that all women could find a way to see the possibility of leaving. It can happen. Abuse (especially in a case like this, where it’s pretty obvious that he’s most likely violent) may not end well.. I wish there was more we could all do.
