    Drew ski you said fox 1 when firing an ir guided missile it is actually meant to be fox 2
    Fox 1 = semi active radar homing missile like an aim 7 or the Russian missiles like a 27 er where the missile uses the radar on board of the aircraft to track to target
    Fox 2= ir guided missile
    Fox 3= fully active radar homing missile. For example aim 120c or r77 which allows the mothership to notch and lose lock while the missile uses onboard radar to track the target

    Hey Drewski, when you go defensive vs a F3, you do NOT want to pull up. You're bleeding your energy while the missile is still gaining energy, therefore increasing its chance to kill you. Speed is life, and pulling up only slows you down. If you're only a few NM away from that missile you'll be in a position where you're going mach 0.6 but the missile is at 2.1 or higher depending on the missile. And that's no bueno.
    Not to mention if you put yourself above the missile you cant notch it; you're painted against an empty background. Instead drop straight to the deck so the missile is pulled through denser air. Then pull level to 90 degrees to the missile, you'll either lose lock due to notching or will have bled off so much of the missile's energy itll never hit you. Other than that good flying 😊

    • @Alrold
      @Alrold 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      many missiles where sams and ai is a bid dummy and shot you at max range alawis. You will avoid the missile unless you are running right into it

    • @jakobole
      @jakobole 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If a bit further away, head-on, perform a split-s as unloaded as possible, keep up the speed and the missile on your 6, hit for the deck and turn 45 deg. left and right to make it turn and bleed speed. When it comes in close, you're prolly faster than the missile, and you and now perform and Immelman to get back into the fight (if you whish). If you don't wanna re-engage, pull up in a climb, keeping up the speed, then roll over and level out, once beat.

    • @danaolsongaming
      @danaolsongaming 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jakobole if you're in a head on you can perform the classic ... I forgot what its called.
      Fly towards your target at a 45* offset, at around their firing range or after you know they've fired, pull a 90* turn in the other direction while you lock them up and fire a F3.
      This will cause their missile to pull a near 180* turn, bleeding a ton of energy, put your target on the defensive, then put you in a position to either break cold and defeat any additional missiles they've fired, or turn hot and continue lobbing missiles until they're dead.

    What's so cool about the way you're learning this, is you're getting the comms and teamwork first. Most of us end up learning the jet in a lone wolf sort of way, and then have to un-learn bad habits to become part of a team effectively. That gives you a big leg up on most of us and you'll be VERY valuable to a virtual squadron quite quickly.

    Make sure you utilise your Antenna Elevation when youre scanning targets at known altitudes, it'll make picking targets up much easier without having to alter your own altitude. Great vid!

    • @plantsofwar8834
      @plantsofwar8834 4 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      Also, when you're engaged in BVR or are within ~40NM of enemy aircraft, you generally shouldn't be leaving the radar on 140 degree sweep. It takes forever to search the entire scan volume, and you've generally got AWACS providing the wide-area coverage anyhow. Instead you want a tall and narrow scan zone; e.g. 4 bars/60 degrees, or even 6bars/20 degrees for shorter range engagements. The narrow sweep allows you to more quickly acquire and lock the targets that you're actively prosecuting, and the greater scan height accounts for the fact that closer bandits can more easily go above/below your scan volume.

If you select a missile type with your joystick (sidewinder, amraam, or sparrow) then set up the bars, range, and azimuth scan the way you like it, and hit the RSET button on the radar screen, it'll save it for that weapon, so every time you select that missile type it'll automatically be set the way you like it

    Just so you know, 4:30 would be fox 2 instead of fox 1
    Fox 1 is for semi-active missiles (like the AIM-7)
    Fox 2 is for heat seeking missiles (like the AIM-9)
    Fox 3 is for active missiles (Like the AIM-120)
    around 6:50 Ralfidude mentions the bandit is at 21 thousand, if you look at your radar screen, on top and below the TDC (Target Designation Cursor, the yellow box you are moving around) you will see two numbers, the top number is the top of your current scan in thousands of feet and the bottom is the bottom of your scan in thousands of feet, what you want to do is get it so 21 would be the number in the middle of those two numbers so that you would be scanning with the middle of your scan hitting 21 thousand, then the target would show up on your radar.
    Also while you're looking at the target with the JHMCS and you hear the aim-9 tone, If you push the "uncage / cage" button on the hotas the aim-9 will lock the target so you don't have to keep looking at him to keep tone.
    Really enjoying the DCS content :D

    Plz fix your zoom slider :(
    You'll probably just need to bind Slow Zoom In/Out to some buttons on your stick, which is what I ended up doing when my stick's axes started getting jittery. It might seem like a pain at first, but getting rid of the jittery zoom is so, so worth it. Trust me this will make DCS 100% more pleasant to use.

    • @7r1p0d5
      @7r1p0d5 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I just have my slider set to steps, so 0-33% was no zoom, 33-66% was medium zoom, and 66-100% was full zoom, and that got rid of the jitter

    Awesome video. Around 6:45 when you're going for the guy at angels 21 you need to adjust your radar antennae elevation up. It's a button on the HOTAS. You radar is space stabilized so when you just pitch your nose up it actually stays looking forward at the same slice of the sky. You'll see numbers on the elevation bracket change as you adjust radar elevation and you would have picked him up.

    • @kylewhite2985
      @kylewhite2985 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right on the first one but about the Fox 3: The 120's on the F18 dont't have the two stages of tracking that other missiles have like the 54's on the F14, it's 100% fire and forget.

    • @TealJosh
      @TealJosh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kylewhite2985 aim120 does have two stages for F/A-18. It's the ACT counter you see at long range launches. Now that we have TWS you can actually trash your own missiles by steering the radar cone so that targets are outside of it. Once you have TTG counter the missile has gone pitbull. You can also fire the missile in mad dog mode and some other mode where it goes active the second it is deployed.
