As someone in video production for last 20 years it is kinda funny when people see build in NDs such a game changing feature... even tho it was in professional cameras since i can remember. It was only when DSLR era of film making started... cameras without it became a thing. As your choice of going with Canon... sure if it makes sense for you. But I still think spending a bit more on FX6 would be a better option than jumping to completely different ecosystem.
@@Yupthereitism It definitely is very a competent camera. The only thing it is kinda unfortunate is their choice of media. CExpress Type A cards are horrible value. I wish they went Panasonic way, ditched the backwards compatibility with SD cards and gone purely with CExpress Type B. These are much cheaper and will probably become standard for future cameras across the industry.
I sold 2 C300 mk iii’s and a C500ii for the C70’s. I then sold them after a year for the FX3’s. I find the compactness of the FX3’s and slog3 much more appealing than the built in ND’s of the C70. Also, I leave a variable ND on my camera full time. If it’s too dark, I simply move to the FX3’s second native ISO of 12,800 and it’s like having built in ND’s. Having full size XLR on the FX3 is really nice as well as being able to shoot vertical and the camera recording the metadata that way so I don’t have to rotate every clip in Premiere. FX3 can also take pretty decent photos. C70 cannot. Much better lens selection on Sony at better prices. C70 is still a great camera, but not a game changer in comparison, and at the end of the day, clients don’t give a crap what you shoot on. I did a 40K shoot with 2 C300iii’s and then did another for the same client with C70’s, and most recently with FX3’s. They had no clue nor didn’t care. Gear videos can send the wrong message to upcoming video businesses. Unless an agency is hiring you, most stuff is irrelevant.
Hi Mate, couldn't have said it better myself, the workflow of the C70 works perfectly for us at the moment. We mainly use the C70 for TH-cam videos. Happy to hear that the FX3 is working for you 😊
Same I did a shoot with a FX9 for a client, and the last time I didn't want to bring the big boy and shot with the FX3. I thought they will tell me something about that, but they didn't care at all 😅 I still don't know why I keep renting other cameras (Red, Arri), because they absolutely don't care either...
FX3 / FX6 renter, Blackmagic owner (ursa G2 / pocket 6k pro). Just rented the C70 two days ago.... Image is lovely, it's super compact, and the image (appart from low light and slow mo) has the edge over the FX3 /FX6 to me. C70 is 3500€ second hand right now. I was SO impressed to see how much the C70 has been tailored to fit on a gimbal ! Spacing for the plate under it, media trap on the front... Just remembered how much the first C300 was such a unbeatable workhorse 10 years ago.
Hey dude! The down side is that the autofocus never works but we don't really use that for filming anyway. Other than that, ive used them for years and years and love it!
Solid and interesting video, thanks for making it. I like the idea of 2nd hand, although I used MPB to order a camera body almost 2 years ago and it came with a dead pixel on the sensor (visible in the video file). I returned it and got my money back, but then I saw it pop up again a few days later with the added text that it had a dead pixel on the screen which didn't affect the image - when it was clearly the sensor. I haven't used them since then. Perhaps it was a one time thing or they've gotten better because I hear good things. But still.. not cool.
Hi Mate, sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience with MPB. This isn't something we have ever experienced in the past. I am glad that the video was of value to you! 😁👍
Hey Ross. Geeez you really ruffed up the feathers of some Sony users here! We have recently moved from Sony (FS7) to Canon C70s as well. After using both we just liked the image from the Canon better and with the speed booster, we can have the benefits of S35 and Full frame together. The range of codecs and having raw light as well as 10-bit long gop capabilities are great too when you're in a pinch. The dynamic range is really good, 10 stops of ND (Shooting wide open outside has never been easier) and it's a good weight. False color in the camera is a bonus too! The FX6 wasn't far behind for us though. but the fact the XLR's are built into the handle makes getting audio and gimbal work harder (The mini xlr's really don't bother us) The FX6 was physically easier to work with but found menus and menu speed to be better in the canon. Would love to know why you're not using it for commercial work though? It's clearly a professional camera and is more up-to-date than the FS7 and its color science is much better than the older sony cinema range. The only thing I could think of is the "look" on set?
C70 is a beeaasssstttt. If you can wait till black friday/bank holiday deals. I actually got my c70 cheaper NEW than it was second hand. It got £1000 off the top line, 24 months 0% finance, Canon adapter included.. All for £4200 🤯
There are many great cameras now, Sony and Canon leading imo, and you should have compared it to the FX6 which is on par to the C70. Canon lost me to Sony when they did release the R5, which was marketed as a Video camera but all was bad about that, overheating, bad file format that was barely editable, No Proxies...
Totally agree. When the r5 came out it was a car crash! From what friends have said, the r5c seems to have fixed those issues (apart from poor battery life) I think the fx6 is great, it was just a lot more money and didn't think its the right fit for what we were looking for... this time 👌😊
I THINK ITS BIG MISTAKE - AND I OWN BOTH OF THEM - FX3 IS MUCH FASTER CAMERA TO WORK WITH AND AF IS MUCH BETTER AND SO MUCH MORE ALSO THE FX3 ARGONOMIC IS SO MUCH BETTER AND NICE TO WORK WITH AFTER ALL THE FIRMWARE FX3 GOT ITS NO BRAINER ALSO THE FX3 IBIS...SO GOOD
Great video. It’s funny how much hate videos get when putting canon over Sony…😂😂😂 I too am a C70 owner since it came out. I love the image, features, and workflow but lately there’s just something about the Sony image that’s intriguing. So although I still have my c70, R7, black magic 6k and 6k pro, I’ve recently purchased the fx30 with the intent to buy the fx6 once I sell my canon gear and rf glass. At the end of the day the beautiful part is that we have OPTIONS to try new things that can’t help us along in this AMAZING craft of filmmaking and content creation.
These comments are wild. Just be happy for bro. He found a tool that works after going through the hustle of owning cameras that didn’t speak clearly to his needs. Jesus, filmmakers can be toxic as shit sometimes. Like these brands actually pay you to be loyal to them.
I feel like the fx6 is going to get a lot of love here 😂🙏🏼 no doubt that's a good camera but in price range for us, we wanted to spend around 4k so that was either a used c70 or new fx3, the fx6 sits at 6k in the UK. You know what its like, also depends on what you want the camera for right? It just seemed smaller was going to fit us better and the price range dictated some options too 👌😊
@@RossWelch New price (germany) we talk 4.7k vs 5.6k. Plus, you need a new Lens, so you are over 5.6k. For Sony, you still have all the Lenses. But even Body to Body only, I would go for 1k more. Not a fair comparison I feel. I think the best move would be to FX6 instead of C70. I acknowledge C70 is a great camera, but sticking to Sony ecosystem and upgrading to FX6 would be a smart move even though its cost little bit more.
There is no "Versus"... The c70 and the C300 is the only cameras with a DGO sensor... i know there is the Arri`s.. but who can afford those... I'm sorry, but this video makes no sense. First of all you're comparing a much cheaper and compact FX3 instead of full size FX6 with built in NDs that has a similar price point to C70. FX6 has superior gradual NDs that are very versatile in comparison to hard stops in C70. You can bake in your own LUT in both FX3 and FX6 while getting the full dynamic range of S-log3. I stopped watching the video after that. There's no reason to invest in Canon since they are not allowing 3rd party manufacturers to produce lenses for the RF mount.
Hey! Appreciate your view point. I compared it to the fx3 because that's what I was considering. The fx6 was way more expensive both new and second hand whereas the c70 was closer in price to the fx3 (second hand) £4k. No doubt the fx6 is great but that's the reason I compared it to the fx3. Sorry if that wasn't clearer 👌
FX3 is clearly not a professional tool - why did you even think it was a good idea! Personally I like the C70 but felt that I would upgrade to big xlr, sdi and a movable screen while saving a couple of thousand got a used C200.
