The Gen 5 Glock 22 .40 is so good at reducing recoil, it's pretty unbelievable. The ".40 torque" is gone. I don't know how Glock's engineers did it, but it's a game changer for those who shoot .40.

Glock finally copied M&P slide and locking block dementions.
M&P 2.0 was built around 40sw. Glock tried to shove 40sw into a 9mm. platform; until the gen5 platform....
They increased their recoil guide length and slide mass as well. I know trying to get Glock fans to try something else is like pulling teeth, but I switched to S&W in 2017 ( polymer pistols at least)
You are correct however; gen 5 40sw Glocks have improved greatly.

Those both performed exceptionally well. Powerful for caliber and dynamic on impact. Those expanded bullets are beautiful! Brother that 40 is so impressive. It is so big. A 90 caliber final bullet has to be very effective. The 357 Sig hit with plenty of authority and went plenty deep so it would be extremely effective. But I would go 40 based on this test. I sure appreciate the great tests. All the best. Salute.

I can't believe how big that .40 got. I definitely wouldn't want that anywhere near my body 😂. I was not expecting that at all. They were both pretty spicy🌶 out of the short barrels though. Can't complain. I wouldn't hesitate too carry either. It was awesome to actually see what was going on in the gel compared to just a big explosion in water. Hoping too keep this going. One suggestion, when you edit, take out a little of that long pause before the shot... Everything else is PERFECT...
Remember to continue to use the sun or a light to back light the block when showing us the track... So many people don't and then you can't really see shit on the video.

I've always been a big .40 fan and feel the 155gr .40 is a good alternative to the 357 SIG/MAG 125gr. According to Federal the 155gr HST XM40HB is listed at 1140 fps ( a little slow) whereas the 125gr P357SHST1 is listed at 1360 fps, so 447 ft-lbs vs 513 ft-lbs, plus the 125gr has higher sectional density than the 155gr.

And recoil springs! Move up to an 18 pound or even 20. If you can swing it; get a DPM set up. I think they come with a couple spring weight options.
You could also get off the Glock kick and buy a S&W M&P 2.0 in 40sw. They were built around the 40sw.( you know: 40-Smith and Wesson....huh!)
      I have KKM 357sig barrels for my 5"pro and 3.6" 2.0
      pistols.
However: The gen5 Glocks (22,23,27) have heavier slides, longer recoil guides and heavier spring weights ( also something about a reshaped recoil block.) They handle the hotter loads much better than the earlier Glocks.

Look how much larger that 40 slug is. I love 357 sig but for a handgun having a large diameter projectile is key. The permanent cavity on the dig is larger in the first 1/3 but tapers off quick on the back end where as the 40 has a huge wound track 2/3 of the entire track. Way higher chance of hitting more vital internals with a wider bullet. The sig does goes further but any normal situation both rounds will be punching through a normal human. If body armor is involved neither are going to punch through. .45 just doesn’t have the capacity to make it a better option than either of these IMO. 9mm has a couple more round capacity than these typically but the numbers from the Sig and size of the 40 just over take 9mm. 10mm is the best but having a full size G20 to lug around isn’t ideal

    .40 is more lethal.
Better odds of killing the individual shot.
People bleed from the circumferential wall of tissue cut or crushed by the projectile.
Larger diameter projectiles, expanding projectiles, more projectiles=more lethality due to blood loss.
Bigger temporary stretch cavities are generated by higher ft/lbs of energy.
    'Stopping power'.
500+ ft/lbs of energy violently displaces tissue, which violently displaces fluid.
Shoves it up the neck with too much force.
Hits the brain with too much force.
    Microscopic hemorrhaging occurs.
    Brain sustains mechanical damage.
That's the actual wounding mechanism that drops people with a single chest hit.
Get Underwood's 125 grain load, or maybe their 68 grain load in 357 SIG.
    Get an extended barrel.
Get a weapon-mounted laser because 90% odds to hit is way better than the 22% odds to hit that law enforcement gets on average.
    Streamlight TLR-8 is recommended.
You can shoot someone again, you know, but you want to shoot someone once to drop them.
You might be defending someone that you care about instead of yourself.
That's the real reason that I strongly advocate for the choices that I do.

You do nice comparisons. I think people get too wrapped up in the visual of the temp stretch cavity though. People aren't jello and what you see with a temp cavity doesn't happen in people. We stretch and rebaound. Jello doesn't rebound. But, great for comparing rounds if you focus on expanded diameter and penetration.
I'm not too familiar with your channel. Do you use clear ballistics gel or ordnance gel? I've seen tests that show clear ballistics gel will give up to 35% more penetration than FBI style ordnance gel.

155gr 40 generally is not enough foreven minimum penetration but hst makes it a viable load! only reason for 357sig is even better penetration plus energy/expansion dependent on load tho since only certain 125gr penetrate as good as 9mm 147. The 147gr 357sig load id say is equal to any of the best 165/180 40s and are go to for concealed. only stepping up to 10mm do you have a better option if you can conceal a 10mm!

Gel is best in my opinion, nice video thanks...these rounds are impressive, but I will stick with the 9mm for two legged threats: better control, more rounds on target accuracy, and all the other reasons the FBI and Law Enforcement are switching/switched to it. In a perfect world when you can get proper grip, stance, aim, trigger control ect... these super rounds look good, but in high stress seek cover, return fire, one handed shooting situations and manipulations, where rounds on target, and shot placement and muscle memory really matter, it's 9mm all day for me, and my preferred carry is G17, 19 , or M&P 2.0 4.25 in pistol, with premium ammo. I subscribed, good luck with your channel from a fellow Arizonian.

.357 sig all the way. It’s essentially a REALLY hot 9mm, specifically designed for penetration. 45acp for regular defense, and the sig if you need to shoot flat at 100+ yards or shoot through barriers. I would even carry it for black bear defense (with good non hollow point rounds). It will penetrate just fine especially as defensive/last resort distances of 20 ft less. 44 mag would be the defensive back up for grizzly however.

  • @ergofoxxxy

you really only get the effect of either out of a full sized handgun. a full size 357 is screaming at the mid 1500's range. The 40 only really shines at 100 yards and needs the extra barrel
