Great and useful as usual! A good idea would be to drill a hole in that latch and to bind a cord for emergency opening and keep it hidden behind the plastic pannel.
Thank you for posting this video. I have a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Touring L and received a message saying "Power Liftgate Temporarily Unavailable Close Manually to Operate". This appears to be a common issue. I checked the fuse and was all good there. Using this video, I was able to pop the latch and open the liftgate. Then I manually closed it. Low and behold, the front button, rear button, and key fob all started working again. Again, thank you for posting this as it fixed my problem entirely!
Absolute great video. Thank you so much for making it. t have been struggling with this door for months. It's been working off and on but it's gotten to the point where it won't open at ever.
Thank you for showing that latch assembly outside of the vehicle. My lift gate had the opposite problem and wouldn't latch. Showing where I needed to push down in order to manually latch it was exactly what I was looking for!

I finally got it opened thank!!! So happy to see this videos, very understanding and helpful.. But does Anyone know why when I closed the lift gate, it still won’t open the lift gate from my key fob or inside vehicle buttons.. so I don’t have to climb in van every time I need it open ?
I would not have found that release without that video. Mine was jammed shut and couldn't open even though the motor would cycle. Got it open, Sprayed everything with drylube and now it works.
Please help me... i have dodge caravan 2018... recently the break lights didn't turn off and it kept lighting and the only way to turn it off is to remove the battery, and we replaced the brake pedal switch and nothing happened the same problem was here , waiting for your response and thanks !
Hello...great video as always. Would you be able to make a video on how to replace the lift gate actuator on a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan? Mine locks and unlocks but every time you unlock it makes a loud noise. Also, where would you recommend buying them from he in Ontario, Canada. Thank you!
Some models look a bit different, don't use any tool, just reach in with your left hand, the are two parts that move up, it's the 2nd one that you need to lift up, just reach in a little further and you can pull it up with your finger.
It won't work cuz you twisted the hell out of the first visible piece. I set it back into position the first visible piece then you toggle the hidden lever and then it should work

Can you offer any suggestions as to why this happens? This happens every time I close my liftgate. I can't continue to keep the panel off and use a screwdriver each time I need to open the liftgate. The background on my issue is this. The liftgate was working properly until I hired a guy to replace the broken window on the liftgate. The guy left pieces of glass everywhere, which I think I have finally been able to clean out. Even though the glass pieces appear to be gone, the door will not work properly. At times, the door will not latch at all. Most times, though, the liftgate door shuts and then remains locked. Pressing any of the "open" buttons does nothing. Thank you. (Btw, the guy who replaced the glass ignores all my calls.)
Did you ever figure out the issue? I walked outside this morning to go to work, and my wife's vans lift gate was wide open. I closed it thinking she must have accidentally triggered it last night. Now it only opens manually like this video. I figured a fuse (for some weird reason) popped at night, triggered the gate. But the fuse is good. PS I was on my way to my job at a Chevy dealership bodyshop where we don't have these kind of issues. Lol. The only thing I can think of is that the electrical motor that pulls the trigger has gone bad.
@@Saint696Anger I'm not sure if we had the same problem if lube helped. For me, it was the plug that actually controlled the liftgate. The power side of the hydrolic lift arms has a plug that runs behind the left quarter panel, that plug in there was beginning to corrode. Got one from a scrap yard for 5 bucks and spliced it in. All better. Almost bought a latch first but that would have been 100s

*How to convert the power lift gate to manual.?* I changed all that part and still with the same issue, you can hear the motor working but it doesn't open the door.
Any idea what to do if that lever doesn't work? I've really wrenched on it with a large screwdriver and nothing. And had a second person pull on the outside while levering on it.
I pulled the four Philips screws holding the plastic cover on, carefully moved the light and was able to remove the entire cover. Once that was loose I was able to manually move the cable and was able to open the hatch.
I find it really annoying there is only one lock cylinder on the entire vehicle. Ours is broken, so there's no way to get in manually if the fob or car battery dies.
Hi from Chile, please need help on my country i cant found help.my liftgate works fine on automatic openning, but no button or remote works to close on dashboard read message fuction deactivated.
Hi @YouWrench. I followed your instruction, but my lift gate is still locked. When I pull the manual handle from the outside I am maybe able to pull it for maybe half a centimeter, but then the gate is automatically pressed to the inside direction. When I remove a fuse it does not help. Do you have idea what might causing it?
Have you tried the process outlined in this video, by manually unlocking the mechanism from the inside? You should definitely be able to get it open that way. I have a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan that is giving me problem with the door locks, they "stutter" when I try locking/unlocking the doors. By "stuttering" I mean the button pops up and down several times, and it doesn't always lock or unlock, I have to press the key fob 3 or 4 times to get it to lock/unlock. And that is my biggest gripe about this van - only ONE key lock on the driver's door. If/when my power locks finally give out, I won't be able to access my rear hatch. Also I curse Dodge every time I have to unlock my door with the key, because the alarm goes off when I do.
After you manually release, and then you shut the gate can you open it after that with the outside handle ? Or do you have to do the same process again ?
Yes, unfortunately simply opening the tailgate will not fix the problem. But it allows you to get it open, and of course to be able to fix the problem you must first be able to open it. Firstly, make sure it is definitely the correct lever as it's easy to get them mixed up. If it's definitely the right one then perhaps your mechanism has broken? This make things more complex. You could try inspecting the mechanism for the damage using mirrors, and see if you can spot what the issue is. It should also be possible to send the mechanism a 12v feed to force it, but if the mechanism is broken that won't help. It could be quite an involved job. Start with the most logical and easy things to check and work backwards. Sorry we can't be much of a help here. So I was able to remove all trim from door with it still closed, then was able to unbolt the actuator and that let the door open with the leaver you was showing. So I believe the actuator still had the door locked preventing the manual leave to work

We had that problem then with a lot fidgeting, got it to shut… now it’s stuck close. Were you able to get yours working normally?
My 2012 T&C lift gate wouldn’t close due to this issue… this was a much easier fix than the other video! Thanks
