This shipping container home has 1488 square feet of interior living space, and another 1488 square feet of exterior living space. It's built with two cantilevered 8'x40' high cube containers and a custom 12'x40' container. The three containers are joined together by a steel-framed infill structure in the middle.
The containers are built on a helical pile foundation, they're insulated from the inside and on the outside to prevent condensation and they have an HRV system to regulate air quality inside the home.
The interior design is a combination of industrial, modern, and rustic with exposed steel walls and beams, rough-cut lumber, and modern furniture and appliances.

Loved the container home as its almost as big as my 1600 sq foot home here in Los Angeles area (my house was built in 1948). I am 4th owner of this home and my parents paid $19,000 for it in 1962. I love the concept of container homes I only wish they had them back in the 1970's and 80's now I am old and in ill health to move into one of them. I do enjoy looking at alternative living and tiny homes as it is fascinating.
They honestly have more of a cabin feel to me.

Love the idea of being able to configure a home differently with containers and this may be an awesome cottage for someone who has a "regular" house to live in but I'm not sure it reflects the reality of those who make container homes to live tiny to save money and/or to have a smaller footprint environmentally. Appreciate his frankness about the cost. It is a beautiful cottage.

Not everyone though is thinking of using containers for tiny homes. Regular homes are built with them too. This is definitely a regular home. My lady and I are looking at these for a home. So it's a reality. And we're not alone. Environmentally they can definitely be made to be that way. Which is another aspect of the home we eventually will build.
YES! Definitely agree about his frankness about cost! I feel a lot of people are not informed about cost to do container or any prefabricated. I’m finding that with my modular build in the desert and I’m documenting it on on my channel.

I love the modern architecture the inside individual look kinda gives two types of my personally favorite designs. That's the industrial loft design inside and the modern sleek industrial architecture design.. I like the exterior wood work outside the home I'm a glass fan and high ceilings. Great job

This design is the exact size my lady and I are looking at for our container home. I realize the company is in Canada. Wish there was a way to see about them selling their designs for a home here in California. Long Beach has PLENTY of containers just sitting there (like most docks in this country).

This was wonderful, and the home looks lovely and very comfortable. I've been looking into this sort of construction, and though I think it won't be easy to find a builder of them in Australia, you never know your luck. To me an issue is the set dimensions of each container if you're using them alone - barring custom-built containers like the one in this house. I often think - looking at other designs - that I'd like to see more room in a bedroom, for example, or the TV room seems to have you sitting almost on top of the TV. Of the designs I've seen, the ones that I feel are most successful are those that use containers as a basis for the home - as is the case here - and not the entire home. Connecting the containers with more orthodox construction materials seems to yield a little more design freedom.
Where are you in Australia? My son is at Beaudesert, moving to his block of land at Moffatdale very soon. He has three 40ft high cube containers ready to be transformed into their new home.

Yep. Normal shipping containers which are pretty beat up by the time they are recyclable, covered with clean and resource-expensive steel so you can feel like you're part of some kind of sustainability movement but really you're just another neo-liberal who only cares about appearances.

Agreed! The struggle to make them functional is one of the reasons I did not go with using them for the build I’m working on in the desert. You have a little more limited control with Modular builds. I’m documenting using modular build on my channel.

If this was on a basement with a nice casita over the garage, I might consider making it my main home. Would be awesome to have a place to store outdoors kind of equipment like hunting, fishing, kayaking, rafting, survival, etc gear in there too.

I have one question. But, first of all, great job!
How does sound conduct through this home? Metal usually passes sound very well. I assume the panelling and/or putting in furniture and stuff helps, but a log cabin (for example) really does deaden sound. As I watch this, I'm pretty sure it's not a problem.
I found it cozy, charming and with a very nice taste decoration.
Are there alternatives for people with low budget limitations?
If the cost ends up being about the same as the traditional buildings, and the only advantage really is the shorter time taken to build it, why would anyone really go for container homes especially they are very likely to not last as long as the traditional houses?

That’s a really good point. I think containers are great for tiny homes, but this is just silly. They can’t really make any repairs on the container parts, whereas regular houses can have wood and concrete parts exchanged when needed.

Literally looks like a regular modern architecture house. And they used steel anyway to join the containers. Plus the custom container is not available to everyone anyway.
@@joewoodchuck3824 IIRC shipping containers use cor ten steel...they have to journey over salt water in their former use. Cor ten is supposed to be steel that forms a protective layer as it rust. If I'm wrong someone tell me

Perhaps an alternative way to build a home? Like, as opposed to a wooden frame? Which is how, I guesstimate, roughly 98% of houses are built.

It’s not only money, the fact that these containers won’t end up being dumped on our Earth to just take up space and rot, rather someone use it instead. I like how some people are building tiny home communities for the homeless. Maybe they can use those too! Or old railroad cars. Now if the ones in this build are using solar panels for electricity, that’s good, and I’ve seen people use wood stoves for heat which saves a lot.

I want one, but the Floor be made of agarwood, + black marble countertop, + bathroom!!!
