    I use a single event controller to turn my thrusters off when the speed exceeds 98m/s, and on again when it falls below. Then I just hold down the space bar (or W, or whatever) until I'm in space. Uses the absolute minimum amount of fuel.
    The only caveat is that you need to turn the event controller off before descending!

    If you're really looking for efficiency add atmospheric thrusters so you can use them to get up 4-8km and transition to hydrogen. Especially with a small ship with limited hydrogen storage, atmo thrusters can really help. I like to build a ship that ascends with the bottom thrust so I can add the increase/decrease buttons to a button block and I can wander around the ship and look out the windows as it flies to space. Then just toggle the thrust down a bit when you've been at 100mps for a while. Great video!

    • @ThalesMML
      @ThalesMML 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Disagree, if the ship's job is going to space and fly in space, atmospheric thrusters and required battery are dead weight. And they are not light unlike hydrogen stuff.

      @@ThalesMML So build the initial ship as a transitionary shuttle between space and the planet. Build a second ship in space that's designed to only fly in space.

    I usually just "throttle" the thrust by hitting the space bar, and letting gravity reduce my speed, then hitting up/forward to increase thrust once more. Another helpful ship design is to use an atmospheric thruster to lift your ship most of the way, and then once your speed starts to drop (from lack of an atmosphere), turn on you hydrogen thrusters to take you the rest of the way. This is really efficient at preserving hydrogen fuel.

      👍 yea, but you should mention that you have to turn off Dampeners for that.

    I still use the old fashioned way of shutting off dampeners and tapping thrust to top off the speed, sometimes the easiest methods are the best.
    I've done testing where i've copy/pasted the exact same ship and tried the different methods such as thrust override, shutting off specific thrusters, even controllers, etc and the difference in fuel efficiency was usually one percent or less so i figured i'd use the easiest method and keep the more complicated set-ups for printing ships rather then flying them.

      Absolutely, the video featured hydrogen thrusters because they use a more finite resource than others. But it works the same way for all

  • @Bavariam

    Hey Lunar thx for a new video. I noticed something very helpful yesterday 😂 when i travel in space i usually go full speed and then correct it down if I'm to fast (speed limit). I have not much Resources on board and cant refill my H2 Generator until im on a Meteor with Ice. So i thought: Go Full Speed with Hydrogen Thrusters (99,9! Speed limit) and TURN OFF (On / Off) the ship - u can still fly with your same speed amount like before but without able to maneuver. But u will still travel and dont use any resources from the Hydro Tank.
    I don't know if you alread know that but for me 😂 physics makes now more sense. LmAO

      @sorrowandsufferin924 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Here's another trick for the same effect:
      Group your backwards thrusters the way Lunar did in the video (so the ones pointing forwards, the ones that would usually slow you down). Put it on the hotbar and select "turn on/off" as the option to use.
      Once you're up to speed, disable only the backwards thrusters. You'll be travelling at the same speed but retain the ability to maneuver and do other things that need power on the ship, like refining ores or building components.

      Ok, that's good to know! I got this game about a week ago when it was on sale, and have been watching every tutorial video I can find about it to learn how to build awesome stuff.
      I've got one other question, if you don't mind answering as well. I've heard that most DLCs are just cosmetic skins and variants of existing blocks to offer different looks or styles. But are there any DLCs you would recommend that would add anything that isn't already in vanilla? Are there any functional blocks you can only get in certain DLCs that vanilla doesn't have?
      Also, do you have any videos on DLCs you would recommend for new players?

      I think this is suitable for beginner level. I have personally spend a lot longer time explaining this to beginners streaming SE. If you think a 1 min video would be enough, then it is probably because you knew most of the stuff, if not all, already.

    • @alyero6341
      @alyero6341 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@abaloth this videos entire content summarized was
      "->get in cockpit
      ->group forward(or whatever direction) thrusters.
      ->press g get both overrides on your bar
      ->keep speed between 90-95m/s cause you cant break the speed limit in space engineers so you waste fuel thrusting at full force.
      thats.it.
      I've explained this game to many people but the advantage a video has over you streaming yourself is people can rewind a video as often as they want to, so repeating yourself or dragging shit out just makes the tutorial/tip video more frustrating to watch to people who understood the first go around. im not hating on the creator, just trying to give constructive feedback. on another note, i'd rename the whole thing to "how to save 80/90% fuel while getting (a ship) to space" or something actually reflecting the content of the video.

    • @abaloth
      @abaloth 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@alyero6341 yes i did not pick up any hate in your comment at all, and you can absolutely have your opinion, and i do understand your point of view as well. It really comes down to personal preference in tutorials i guess.
      Personally i like a video taking it slow when going through the process of any kind of tutorial, and i can skip forward a bit if i understand what is going on. rather than replaying someone clicking 5 buttons through 3 different user interfaces, while saying something super fast in a few seconds, where i have to repeat that part 10 times to understand what is going on.
      As a content creator it is hard to please all, and i think target audience here was people very new to the game.
      On video title suggestion i totally agree :)

      If you haven’t try building things in creative to get a feel for things. I like planning new ships in creative and then either just using that experience to replicate in survival or using the blueprint system. Also don’t be afraid to edit settings on a survival world save to switch it to creative, spawn in something to help you get started or get past a hurdle before saving and switching back to survival. Just double check your settings when you switch back to survival they can change being switched to creative. Also try some mods like modular encounters it’s super easy to do and really helps liven up the world
