Pretty boy was supposed to be a troll song or ‘not song’ as Joji put it, and it does got some hidden message behind the MV of the song. If you’re not aware of the background then I get why you dislike it. I think there are a few disappointments regarding a couple of his tracks. Mr Hollywood though, arguably one of his best ever imo, and I believe most of his fans absolutely love this track, easily the biggest highlight of this album. I like your vid but strongly disagree on that one.
I've never appreciated a comment that disagrees with me more than this one! Eloquent af. Yes, I actually wasn't aware of the background and that's on me, I genuinely didn't vibe with the song either way, but now I get the concept of it way better. Alina Naza echo park, highland park, pasadena, eaglerock, los filez, silver lake - those are places to spend a day wandering around. not hollywood or santamonica. venice is ok. also, do a hike or 2. it’s actually really dope and hi better than walking around a mall.

I have a long commute home from work and I got the chance to listen to this album in it’s entirety, and Joji has improved so much. He was already amazing, and driving home this album - especially modus and like you do just hit so hard that they got three plays ✨each✨
The concept behind the album and the videos he dropped, Joji takes us though his fame and how he sees it. Pay more attention to the videos and you’ll see the ‘pretty boys’ old guys in video are looking for him after he steals the rocket and goes into space by himself. Super sweet vibes on the record as well

I was blown away by his rich voice's strength.😍 His smooth tenor timbre offers a pure listening pleasure.'Nectar' is a feast for the ears and marvelously curated for repeated listeners.❤
Great reaction! I love nectar and i feel like most of the songs have some deeper meanings. Modus is likely about the music industry or even popularity on the internet in general. Upgrade could be him talking to himself to get out of a bad relationship or habit. Pretty Boy is likely a “break up” song because us guys have this bad problem of feeling like “I’m awesome, I don’t need you” after a break up but it sounds crazy and chaotic, much like our minds while trying to deal with a breakup. 😂 I feel like most songs have a deeper meaning that you just have to really look for! That’s what we get with the cryptic lyrics of Joji music though! 🤷♂️❤️

this is why i don't like that Run and Sanctuary are on this album, when people have a listen through and get to the second half they always, ALWAYS refer back to Run and Sanctuary for some reason, the album is a good 16.5/18
Love the sheer honesty in this review, however I feel like ew and like you do were some of the stand outs but I kind of saw my own bias at trying to enjoy some songs more than I did and there's definitely a tendency for joji to become monotonous. So good point.
I loved the album but the only song I disliked was "High Hopes". I think Omar Apollo's verse didn't match with whole song. But the rest of the album was a 10/10.
I think your man does a perfect loop , after you felt super vulnerable , you want to feel comforted , in a lonely hopeless last cry , and then you come back to the start of the album , where he wants to ignore his own feeling and look like a tough man , tell her she needs to upgrade and that he feels the daylight , but he quickly is caught again by his feelings To me this whole album he is grieving , and trying to go away from the one he loved , but like anyone he is constantly getting trapped in his pas feelings and memories , getting sad and then try to get back up is THE joji vibe , to me at least
That “ahhh” sound effect comes from some sound module. Roland MC1 I think? Basically it has a bunch of sound effects and drum grooves and one the effects was that”ahhhhh” Ofcourse Nelly made that sound really popular but was used in a bunch of other tracks. I mean it’s still being used to this day, so yeah.

I think to understand pretty boy better is to look back at his past, I absolutely love pretty boy for that chaotic nature that was prevalent in his previous carrier being a comedian. From the purposefully terrible beats to the overuse of auto-tune, I think every single terrible thing about that song was intentional and just heightens the love of it for me

Before you used to give albums out, like that's what happened, that's why the critic became important in the music space because they got the music first, they would get the music 2 months early, because you know the magazine had a long lead time. They get it, they sit with it, they review it, they send it out a month ahead of time. You reading it, you looking like 'oh this albums gonna be dope' you don't have the music. So you're reading reviews for a month, right now the music comes out like this. People are writing the review in a day. First of all you can't listen to an album and rate it in a day. It's just impossible"
