HBCUs should stick together regardless of conference. Stick to our own. That’s the primary appeal of HBCU football. Attendance and ratings show HBCU fans prefer HBCU games

Yes, stay in the region if possible. It does not have to be against the top-rated team in the Southeast, because one day the conference is going to have teams that are going to have a great season but not make the title game. As a fan, I don't want these teams to stay home because they didn't make the title game. The SWAC West has a good working relationship with the Southland.

What's the goal? If you want to be one of the best HBCUs, then focus on playing against other HBCU teams. If you want to be one of the top FCS programs, go compete against other FCS schools. My issue is when schools complain about their rankings or not receiving an automatic FCS at-large bid. You have to be honest: the SWAC and MEAC are not strong conferences. While a few programs are decent, overall, these conferences are weak from top to bottom.

@@lawrenceq79 CAA conference has same issues, OVC all of the conferences. No one wants to go to a game against Tennessee Tech. We also have to include finances. For every FCS non conference game you gonna have to schedule a money game. When you could’ve just schedule Hampton or Tennessee State. Both in OVC and CAA and still would attract larger crowds

@@williame.levetteii1894 if we were matching in revenue, resources and facilities yes. HBCUs already won the FCS playoffs and they structured it against HBCUs. Furthermore the SWAC does compete against OOC teams. Samford, Austin Peay, Mcneese State, Northwestern State. JACKSON STATE isn't interested. We can schedule our games strategically and benefit financially. Our entire athletic department is dependent on our revenue from football season. A home and home matchup against a team that won't travel isn't good business

@@williame.levetteii1894 It is the home team's responsibility to fill their own stadium. As long as JSU can have a great home crowd against a program like Central Arkansas or Tennessee Tech, it doesn't matter what the numbers are playing on the road at their place.

I disagree depending on the team. Idk why people keep saying certain games shouldn't be played. JSU should play SU and Alcorn. Outside of that I see nothing wrong with non-conference games. It's not about respect. It's about strength of schedule and strength of opponent. You beat a G5 school or one of these higher FCS schools, and it will raise a few eyebrows
