  • Broadcast live night only from The Center Stage Theater, W Peachtree st, Atlanta. The lineup here is Mauro Magellan on drums, Rick Richards on guitar and vocals, Dan Baird, on guitar and vocals and Dave Hewitt on bass from England! The Video Music Channel was an independent cable music service from approx 1982 to 1984, and over the air via WVEU 1984-1985. At the time, MTV had not entered the Atlanta market. The VMC was beloved locally as it was Atlanta's only source for music videos, amassing a library of over 4000 clips and a full staff of VJs and program producers. Multiple mega-selling artists visited the studios, and other interviews and concerts aired from various venues.... although now only a few tapes of these interviews survive. Many VMC video tapes had to be recorded over for reuse because the cost of broadcast tape was so high.

Are you kidding me??!!! F*cking awesome!! This is a tour de force performance! I just listened to this 5 times in a row! They obviously wanted to be on their sh*t for Dave! This takes me right back to Hedgen's, the Moonshadow, and countless other clubs where the Satellites tore the roof. Killer!!!

Yes, I noticed that with Sheila. Also, 6 years gone was FINALLY put on the third album, Land of Salvation and SIn. 6 years gone is on the original "keep the faith" from 85 and then left off the first two albums.

Didn't VMC sponsor a "battle of the bands" type contest? I think some of the bands that competed were Illusion, Avatar, Palmer and the Push, as well as others. I could have this wrong but someone local staged a contest and if it wasn't VMC can't imagine who it would have been.

  • @sixsentsoldiers

Dave Hewitt doesn't get credits on the first record, but i swear, Hands to yourself sounds like he did it. Or, Rick Price was very accurate.

    • @castanzes

He did. The LP version is actually a remix of the EP recording, with Hewitt on bass.

I like the band and I love Dan's work, but it seems like there are two bands here. Rick sounds like one band and Dan another. It really didn't make a lot of sense, but Dan did put them on the map with his hit tunes.

That’s Dave Hewitt on bass. He played on their famous EP demo, “Keep the Faith,” that contained the version of “KYHTY” that was used for the eponymous LP. Dave was one of their countless, rotating bass players during the early club days before Rick Price came onboard. Sadly, I think Dave passed away a few years ago.
