    Becoming a Self Taught Programmer in the year 2023 can be an extremely confusing process. That's why I created this guide to help you go from not knowing anything about programming all the way to landing a job as a programmer. Becoming self taught is an interesting path, but I have done it and I know that you can as well.
    The key to becoming a self taught programmer is having the right resources and strategies. In this video, I will share the exact steps I took to teach myself programming from scratch. I'll cover how to choose a programming language to learn first, where to find high-quality and free learning materials online, how to build a portfolio of projects to showcase your skills, and tips for networking and landing your first job as a self taught programmer.
    Whether you're looking for a career change into the lucrative field of software development or want to pick up new skills out of curiosity, this video will give you a roadmap to success. With the right motivation and learning methodology, anyone can become a self taught programmer and start a new, rewarding career in technology.

    I did a computer science degree 20 years ago, worked as a web developer for a couple of years, but then ended up working in a totally different industry. Since the AI revolution kicked off, I've been learning to code again and have done a load of Python courses. Coding is so much easier now thanks to improved text editors and libraries for doing pretty much anything. I'm doing courses in FastAPI, Machine Learning, and LangChain at the moment and really enjoying it. It will take me another 6 months or so before I would feel confident to apply for jobs I think. This video is great. Very encouraging. Everybody should learn to code, I think it's good for the brain. I love the way you are constantly learning and how impossibly confusing things eventually start to make sense.

    I am so glad that i have found your video Lewis. Most practical and realistic expectations diving into this field. You answered most of my reasons to procrastinate and my delving in analysis paralysis.
    Trust me, i stopped at your video. From a playlist of many "in-depths", "hows" and "whys", yours should be the last one i buy time to finally start working. Time to act on this. I have roughly started with few of the available sources to study. I can clearly see my plan now

    huge props to lewis for this in-depth guide on breaking into software engineering without a formal degree
    bro's doing the most to help others
    but here's the tea, while self-learning is a powerful tool, a structured formal education can offer a foundation and networking opportunities that self-taught routes might lack
    not saying one is better than the other, just that there are unique advantages to both
    that being said, the amount of value packed into this video is wild. keep grinding!

  • @ruekkart
    @ruekkart 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Nice video. I've seen several roadmaps like this, but all of them lack or left for the end a genuine "Zero" section. I'd recommend first learning how to use a PC. It might sound trivial, but it's invaluable to know how to properly use and configure your OS (Windows, Linux, or whatever you choose), both in the UI and the CLI. I'd even suggest familiarizing yourself with the components of a PC and understanding how they interact. While you can learn these things along the way, knowing them beforehand will greatly benefit you when you start learning to program.

    • @CodingWithLewis
      @CodingWithLewis  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Very important! Thanks for noting. The fact that basic computer understanding is "Zero" is a privilege in itself.

    25 years ago companies were hiring people if they show interest in learning how to program and would teach them on the job. These days, you have to hit the ground running and then some! You have to prove that you know what you say you know with 3+ professional references in the field!
    If you’re starting out new, you have to put all your heart, mite, and soul into it. You cannot be lukewarm in the least to get that first job as a developer!

In hindsight I wish I had begun with python as it’s slightly easier to get a grasp on the main concepts used in every language. It’s much more beginner friendly but also used later in the game and more popular now as well.

    Classic BS video JavaScript 😂😂😂😂😂 I'm working for years in web development industry. Didn't use even one single line in js in my life and will never will. You can make 3D looking pages with CSS this days. Full visual games and animations without js. But everyone is just copying each other videos and are js fanboys 😂😂😂😂

    lol why do all these "self taught" programmers make videos "how to get a job" if they need to run a you tube channel only talking about everything? Right, because they dont get a job with their "skills". Its the same in every niche...Why would successful people stop being successful and earning a lot while they do what they love ? Right...Because its not true. Wake up guys..stop following such people , you make these "videos" possible und you will still watch the 54th episode of "how it is soooo easy...i show you" without any change to your lives. these videos are most of the time just copied from others. Maybe even chatgpt wrote that video script...Try it out and see what AI comes up with
