  • 👩‍💻 If you want to become a full stack developer, you will constantly find yourself finding lengthy articles and contrary opinions that will stop you from actually learning how to be a full stack developer in the year 2023.
    In this video, I aim to eliminate the noise and give you details on my journey of how I became a full stack developer. 🎉
    My name is Lewis Menelaws, I am a 27 year old software engineer who has a software agency in Ontario, Canada. I have been programming professionally for 5-6 years and am looking to help inspire you to learn code. 😊

      I would want a code which can detect a specific USB with any directory like it should not matter is it is E:/,F:/.....
      If there are many USB, only one specific USB which I want to be detected.
      Is it possible?
      I had tried it but it is way too long. I know it can be compacted.
      If there is a video about is please send the link here.

    Reality is that you should spend time on web, read a lot of docs, watch videos, produce your own products while facing problems and solving them but the most important thing is that you should keep yourself motivated all the time.

    Here's my advice if you don't know how to program or are fresh of college: Do not aim to become a full stack right away: it's too much to learn and doing a React + Node tutorial won't give you near enough knowledge on any area (btw, tutorials are for introduction. knowledge comes from experience).
    I lively advice to become a FE or BE: if you go to FE you'll eventually feel the need to touch BE. If you go BE.... well you might feel the need for FE, but BE has other paths such as reliability, database, devOps, etc. so not guaranteed 😅

    If you want to become a fullstack developer, it involves a lot more stuff like knowledge and experience in load balancers, gateways and all that networking stuff, able to design and develop any kind of frond end application, in depth knowledge of databases, apis, caches and much more. Takes atleast 5 years to know things at a high level.
    Anything less than that and you would be a generalist at most.

    Lewis mate, you’re elite. I just started as a grad and I’m quickly falling into so many rabbit holes it’s hard to stick to one learning path.
    After I’ve solved one problem another comes with a different front end tech (from css to adding a new react component), it drives me mad juggling my learning outside work.
    Guess I’ve just gotta start at the beginning and stay consistent no matter how much I think learning on the side for work begs me to switch lanes.

    Now, what would be the estimated timeframe to learn this while having a fulltime job? Yes, you're never finished learning JS for example, but I'm assuming a level of "enough to get above a above-junior-grade job". My wild guess would be around 3-5 years depending on your personal background and abilities?

    • @CodingWithLewis
      @CodingWithLewis  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Some could be even under that! Some bootcamps say they could get you through in like 2-3 months. I would take a year to learn everything thoroughly and go at a good pace. I would say if you learn Node and JavaScript, the frameworks you could learn on site as it wouldn't be much harder.

    Full-stack developers - mostly jacks of all trades and masters of none. Within 2 years of starting my coding career in the 90's I was what you would call a full stack developer. But I would never have called myself that because it's a self-agrandising term that means nothing. There was a huge amount still to learn and after over 25 years I opted to concentrate on data provisioning, i.e. backend services.

    To be honest, one cannot become a fullstack dev starting from scratch. This is a market illusion. You have to have a few years experience in either frontend OR backend development. Then you can switch your focus and gain experience on the other side, combining them and at some time you maybe can call yourself a fullstack dev. The funniest thing I've ever read on job positions was a company looking for a JUNIOR fullstack dev. Come on.... seriously?? What did they smoke?

But what about all these different tools, libraries, frameworks, etc. that are used to help build a Full Stack App. For instance, what's stopping me from learning how the docker is built as an application and what tech is used to make docker? From your personell perspective could you recommend any bootcamps? I don't care to much about the money, i have to do it part-time and the structure within the courses will def help me cause i feel overwhelmed where to continue, what to do next etc.

    Lewis, thank you for an amazing video! Just found your channel and subscribed. I'm considering to jump into "development world" after 10+ years in networking field (Campus and Data Centre routing and switching). Do you think it's a good idea?

    What are your advices for a person who is a non-IT background but wanting to be full stack developer? I am terrified of programming languages right now...there's too many of them

    • @hmd2372
      @hmd2372 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Juat start with c + + cuz all these languages python whatever are made by it so when u learn c + + u understand back code and then easly u can learn any other language

    • @updateserver
      @updateserver ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hmd2372this person clearly stated they are a non-IT person and you tell them to learn C++? 😂 (u gotta be kidding me)
      Listen @damian, learn a language that is required in your desired occupation.
      In full-stack, the 3 pillars are HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
      You can go in that order & branch off to learn the JS libraries React = front-end Node Js = backend.
      Tip: take your time. read docs. Start with small easy projects

  • @verdammtigor
    @verdammtigor ปีที่แล้ว

    Are new projects written in Java? It seems that most switch to either python or go. And what do you think of Kotlin for the backend
