I loved how we didn’t actually see the rape/murder- it felt like the movie was putting more emphasis on what the tragedy afterwards, and made when she saw all the dead girls more impactful. I also really liked how surreal it got- I love weird tone shifts like that tho, makes the more intense parts even scarier for me

The book was brutal. I was mad when the movie was PG-13 (16 when this came out) but now I’m glad it was tamed down. I hope to see a reboot one day that is more indie and rated r. Great storytelling.

When Harvey tells the guy to let him push the safe in the sink hole. was so good just showing he was still getting his satisfaction. That is was selfish and he couldn't allow that guy to help him to that when pushing the safe in. She was his and would always be his story. sick i know but it has a certain dark beauty to it.

The book and movie are both great! I saw the movie first and I'm not a guy that gets emotional easily during movies and I remember being teary eyed a few times throughout. A few years later I got the book and when I read it, I was actually crying in parts. When I was reading the book I was finally a parent myself to a daughter so I could sympathize even more with Susie's dad. I haven't watched it in many years but I imagine the movie would tear my heart out now because my awesome daughter is close to Susie's age in the movie. Stanley Tucci did an amazing job playing a detestable, disgusting creep.

Wow I've only seen the movie and I always wondered why the mother just up and left the family to do her eat, pray, love moment. But in the book she was having an affair with the detective which makes more sense as to why the break down in her marriage was happening.

I love both the book and the movie. As usual, the book version is a bit better since concentrating all the events in 2 hours may be quite difficult. One thing that I didn’t really like, but that I get why they did it, was the murder scene. I didn’t want to see the rape and the dismembering, obviously, but the fact that they let her escape from the chamber making her unaware of being dead doesn’t make sense. What’s the point (except for the suspence and the tragedy) of letting her spirit escape before being killed? I think that her soul would have escaped after being killed, not before. I mean, in the book Susie describes the fight and the rape and you read about her emotions, so making her ghost unaware of being dead is unfair to me. The scene when she attempts to leave and then it shows the cornfield is good, because you imagine what is going on underground (and to me is traumatizing enough) but making her go out in the next scene ruins everything. I would have put the scene where she runs past Ruth next, so you still have the doubt that she escaped, but at least she looks aware of being dead. Making her understand that she is dead later on doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t know maybe I’m wrong 😂

Beautiful story, but let's not forget that the author Alice Sebold wrongly convicted a man of rape. He lost 16 years of his life because of her. The fact that a producer can find holes in her story and not the actual people that investigated the case is terrible and terrifying.

The best way to experience "The Lovely Bones" is to see the film first, then read the book. This gives you both experiences and you won't feel like the film is trying to cram the last 1/3-1/4 of the book within the last 10-15 minutes of film for running time.
I feel bad that people won't get see the "The Lovely Bones" in a real theater again. Nor hear the sound track in aan equally large multi channel experience as Brian Eno did an amazing job with the music. The visuals in the film deserve to be seen on a large screen, far more than your 50-72 inch TV. So all the details make the right impression, from say when the ships in bottles are being smashed with them in Suzies world sailing into the rocky shore landscape becoming shipwrecks. To the massiveness of the cornfield and how it turns to swap and for the size that and feeling of it consuming you when it expanded and filled the screen. How you were sinking in as it swallowed you just viewing it. Others were small details that just showed up better on a movie screen than on a home TV, even if have large one, like when Mr. Harvey and Detective are "dancing around the doll house" when being questioned, as Mr Harvey has to grab and quickly pocket Suzie's charm bracelet's charm without the detective seeing him remove the evidence. That was in plain view has he had victim keep sake on display to remind him.
Now that you're 3 years older and there has been a big culture shift in views about some of the scenes , it would be interesting to do a rewatch then a reread, making another video with you comparing your older viewing , with your younger views here. Not bashing you for the age, but for how people talk about and take the scene between Ray and Ruth with Suzie in the film in present day . Compared to when it was released for how it is/was viewed differently as being more natural without it being any type of violations.
The actor who performed as Mr Harvey looks completely different and while he did a great job portraying the character as the character, he has said in interviews how he really didn't like having to become that character for the scenes they shot for the film. The religious backlash of the fact Suzie was in place in between and not in heaven itself, was big deal with a lot churches and they condemned the movie. The Catholics didn't have any issue as it fit purgatory, although Suzie wouldn't be in"purgatory" for the Catholics normal reason. There was just so much negative reaction to the book and the film from various groups all for different trivial reasons.
I hope in time people can read and watch the film and experience each without the baggage they have been saddled with.
"My name is Salmon, like the fish. First name: Susie. I was here for a moment, and then I was gone. I wish you all, a long, and happy life.

I just finished the book for the first time, ive seen the movie probably 10 times since i was like 12. I think i like both the book and the movie a lot. I felt like the book was a little hard to follow at times, when she would go into long detail about like a building or she would talk about a past event for so long, i started to forget what was a present event and what was a past event. Maybe that just had to do with my short attention span.
Anyways, I was shocked when I learned that Abigail was gone for 7 years! That's so crazy, when Buck said "fuck you" to her, i laughed. I'm so mad at Abigail for running away in both the movie and the book, i understand she was grieving but she had 2 other kids that needed her.
In the book, Susie and Ray have sex while Susie is in Ruth's body but uhhhhhh wasn't Ray like 22 and Susie was still 14. I guess I could see it as, Susie kind of grew up mentally while watching everyone else grow up and I guess it is kind of poetic that Susie didn't let her one and only time be with a man who r-worded her. Also I guess Ruth was also 22 so I guess it all technically is okay, when it comes to ghosts and body possession I suppose all logic goes out the window.
Idk why but im kind of upset that Lindsey didn't name her daughter Susie, like Suzanne Abigail bc I feel like Susie as her first name just would make more sense considering her mom did leave her for 7 years.
While Susie was in Ruth's body she didn't mention anything to Ray about where her body was or any other evidence that could solve her case, i understand that she was trying to move on from it but it would brought closure to everyone in her life.

Another key difference is that the book makes Mr Harvey a more sympathetic villain. It explores his childhood and that losing his mother traumatized him even into his adulthood, and that he has an irresistible urge to kill children, which he attempts to repress. However in the movie, he asks for NO sympathy, and kills just because it's fun!

After watching it today, I just didn’t understand the part how the dad found out that Mr. Harvey was the murderer. A better compliance to it, would’ve been that Susie nearly escaped but got away and left finger prints and dna, for example, at the subdivision clubhouse, a place that is near both to the protagonist and antagonist but would be an unexpected place to leave evidence. I get that it’s supernatural but it would be cool if they could’ve made a near escape scene for Susie that would make the audience think for a second that she escaped.

      @mickeyguajacho9827 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

At the beginning of the movie she even explains she was killed before missing kids were put onto milk cartoons. Susie set you during a time were DNA tracking wasn't a thing and the thought of "stranger danger" wasn't common. People trust everybody during that time and that's why she trusted Mr. Harvey to go into that house underneath the earth. Also in the book, they find her clothes and figured out she was dead. Then clues started to come together and they figured out it was Mr. Harvey but he was on the run already. And again there is no social media like it is now to try to find him.

#AuthorKaren where was respect for Mr. Broadwater, the innocent man your book & #Netflix movie is about ...
At criminal trial, you changed the person you said "committed" the rape, and sent an innocent man to jail..
He was exonerated [Recently] and we're learning of this [recently] ... this #slaver & well known victim, was proven wrong by the local #DA, and her movie #producer, for netflix...
She benefitted from books, and #Hollywood, while he's been labeled a sex offender, and couldn't carry on, with his life. She's a Liar of sorts. Likely, a victim, but would've blamed any #blackMan
    * this is a pitiful human, a sad victim, and family destroying #Liar .. God bless the man she dragged for 16 years 🙏 🤔🙌🏾

If you had no idea what the film is about and watch it because it has Robert Downey Jr. You will hate this film for all eternity. The movie is Pure Depression. While i love dark themes and psycho thrillers. This pure trash.
