  • Winter Van Life camping & surviving in extreme cold. This was the coldest temperatures I have ever experienced in my van. It got down to -29.1°C or -20.4F, which is 20 below the temperature in your food freezer, and I was scared to start my van. Beautiful winter scenery and cozy ambience. 🥶
Enjoy camping and vanlife friends from around the world!

At the beginning, the bridge; what river is it crossing over?
3:40; -26ºC meant nothing to me. -14.8ºF is what I understand,
I especially enjoyed all the snow/ice covered tree scenes.
6:30; - I too was wondering what caused that sound when starting the engine, nevertheless, it did START. Does the van have something to keep the battery warm when not being used? Is there an engine oil pan heater? Is there something that keeps the engine coolant warm & circulating when the engine is off?
V-e=r-y practical - to start the engine every 4 hours. I think I would breathe a sigh of relief each time the engine started & then smile & feel a sense of satisfaction.
15:29; What is the name of that body of water?
15:56; Yes, bacon goes well with anything & is tasty by itself. It is my favorite snack when hiking/overnighting.
Thank you, Jarl, for taking your time, effort, & equipment to share this incredible adventure with lil ole MEeee.
Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada U.S.A. It is forecast to reach 104ºF (40ºC) today. Death Valley, Ca is forecast to reach 127ºF (52.8ºC)

Thanks Butch, yes I have heard about Death Valley, sounds nasty! In Norway we use lubricants and fluids in the engine that is made to handle these temperaures, yes I could have used an engine pre heater. The trees where amazing. This is around Strømsund in Sweden and a bit further north, not sure about the names of the water bodies as I am writing this reply on my phone high up on a mountain plateau in my van with heavy rain and nasty weather, no 57°f here lol! Hi Jarl! Today in the USA there are 100 million people under heat alert. Temperatures of 120° Fahrenheit in Death Valley, California. Here in northern Illinois we get minus 20° Fahrenheit just about every winter for a day or two. That's drastic! You handled it very well. Beautiful winter scenery. Oh Wow! Another awesome video & I can never get enough of these fun journeys.
I love the snow & the colder, the better! So much fun, albeit I know it's not always an easy feat.

It must be so cozy in the van by night, with the warmth inside & especially when you cook your yummy & steaming hot cheese pizzas!😄
I say, the longer your videos, the better the viewing experience, as they're that good & I always enjoy the music too!
In reference to the good snowfalls abound, I do hope we receive plenty of snow in Scandinavia, as we haven't seen much snow in many years now.

@@NorwegianXplorer Haha Yes indeed, it is far away but also, I was just thinking, as the Astronauts in space tell us, when admiring the earth from space.....It's the perspective & the fact that they can cover the entire blue planet with their one hand, making us quickly realise, how connected all humans are on this one shared planet & this planet appears so tiny & fragile from so far away. In a funny sense, our planetarian interconnectedness, keeps us all closer than we'd like to think or even believe.
We're only as far as a flight away, but indeed, that flight can be very expensive, especially when flying anywhere from Australia!😄
I forgot to mention to you prior, that we live in Battery Point, Tasmania. It's a very beautiful part of the world, just like Norway.

Some people have, I do not, it is not considered a must on newer cars but would be good. The cars or vans that are sold in Norway, Sweden and Finland are equipped differently than cars sold in the rest of Europe an the US. They have a different kind of fluids for colder temperatures and some other stuff. I do get a bit nervous about it when it gets this cold but down to minus 20°c /-4°f is ok. Engine heaters from webasto are considered to be good but very expensive to get installed

As a person who lives in Northern Finland where -30celsius weather is normal during winter time; engine warm up is good but not necessary. Diesel cars might not start without it, but 99% time you'll be fine just remember to let the car idle for a minute to get the oil running.
