  • In this video, I leave Punjab and enter the state of Rajasthan in India. I am entering the desert! But first, I visit an unique temple, dedicated to the goddess Durga - and even though I knew what the temple was all about.. I have to admit, I was still a little shaken!

I'm Indian and I would be freaked out by the place. Kudos to you for braving it. Btw, 15 lakh people is 1.5million not 15,000 people who will show up for the festival. The scale in India is mind-boggling... in people, animals, cars, bags of rice on a truck. you name it. Safe travels.

There are rules on the road in India…..first rule: the bigger you are, the more responsible you are for accidents. i.e. a truck is responsible for any accident it causes. If a car collides with a bike, it’s the cars fault. A bicycle hits a pedestrian, it’s the bike’s fault……Second rule, you must sound your horn and indicate when approaching traffic from behind. This encourages the driver in front to check his mirrors.
India drives on the left hand side, like the UK, that’s why the driver sits on the right. The issue in India that is problematic for us in the West is that we’re used to personal space, and this extends to our vehicles. In India, space does not be;one to you but to everyone. Once you spend a decent amount if time there, you get to understand the logic. You might understand it, but you’ll never get used to it.
I twisted my ankle when the pavement collapsed in Bangalore. Immediately there were 10-15 people genuinely wanting to help me. I was coming out of Wembley stadium near the Designer Outlet. I suffer from intercostal cramps. (The intercostal muscles are between the ribs and with the diaphragm help inflate and deflate your lungs). I had a bad attack on my left side. I release the cramp by punching myself in the ribs. I was doing this at peak time, I’m wearing a suit, carrying a briefcase, and all the others walking about ignored me. A homeless man came over and helped me, asked me if I was alright. This is the society we live in….self-indulgent and self-obsessed.
I used to tell the Indians “don’t lose your Indianess. Stop trying to be like Westerners because we are not what you should become.” I was referring to the greed and selfishness that pervades our culture. In Indian and all developing countries, those with the least always are happy to give the most. In our culture, those with the most wouldn’t give you the steam off their p1ss.

Road is road, use any part of it that you can regardless of 'any rules', When on a motorcycle travelling at any speed, someone will always overtake you and cut in, almost wiping out your front wheel then they slam on the brakes. The mathamatical equation for loading a truck in Asia is: Multiply the capacity of the vehicle by 2 then add 50%. You must visit Indonesia one day, Sumartra, onto Java, then Bali and Lombok.
