Re: Housing development and council houses. The proponents of more council housing generally start their comparison at 1945, which means that all of it has been subject to the 1947 Town and County planning act.
If you go back to 1920 then you can see that the private sector out built the public sector at any point in the 20th century. Ditto the 19th century.
The large homebuilders are also a product of the various planning laws in that you need a large organisation to go through the various approvals.
Our current system of individual permission needs to be changed to one of design codes and permitted development.

It must be cheaper to cascade redundant Electrostars to the newly electrified Transpennine Route than using new battery electric trains.

Freezeframing on next HS weeks map, I like the west country line via Southampton. That would tackle many capacity challenges. A new HS pair roughly paralleling the LSWR would be good, allowing fast Southampton services to switch to the new line leaving much capacity for freight and stoppers. Beyond there, following the coast could build much new traffic between Solent and Devon too. Glad you seem to be pursuing the Dawlish avoider option west of Exeter to serve the maximum population. GWR and LSWR partisans will probably hate the idea of amalgamating a corridor from portions of both historic routes!

What has happened to the proposed West Yorkshire rapid transit Metro and the electrification of all the urban lines of West Yorkshire to match London. What has happened to the extension of the Wharfedale and Airedale Metro lines to the rest of West Yorkshire to match the London Overground? What has happened with the joining of the terminuses in Bradford to provide through services, to match the Shoreditch viaduct in inner suburb of London?

My elderly relatives in London have free travel on the buses, tube and trains. My mother had free travel on the buses, trams and trains in west Yorkshire. However, my senior citizen travel card only applies on the buses. Should the new Labour Government reinstate free travel for senior citizens on the buses, trams and trains in the regions to match Greater London?

The National Grid is now a regulated private monopoly that decides the wholesale price of electricity for the railways.

The Government of Ernie Marples had a plan for energy and roads that is now not fit for purpose. Does the Labour need a new plan to reduce emissions and congestion? A surfit of reports have been already completed to inform the policy.

Episode 222 should have a passing note to 222 Marylebone Road and 222 Euston Road the former BRHQ buildings where the Board managed to get a hell of a lot more out of government.keep a railway together and even managed to make InterCity near self funding. Those were the days!

Will Louise also include line between Sheffield and Hull with the promised electrification of the line between Leeds and the free ports of Hull and Immingham?

With the curtailment of HS2 at Birmingham will the new Labour Government adopt the HSUK plans for upgrading the whole of the UK rail network?

I think Voyagers are given an unfairly bad press! I like the electric transmission, the deep windows, the seats are better than upgraded Pendolinos, the good acceleration....

freeze framing on next week's map I'm very interested in what your plans would be for traffic on the GWML and between south Hampshire and Bristol + south wales
also keen to see the justification for extension of a southern hsr beyond south Dorset and why it follows the coast.
also velaro novo looks pretty :^)

HSUK is a plan to improve transport in the whole of the country. HS2 is a plan for only a part of the country.
