Unfortunately, that is not primarily what Emily is describing here. Even so, a theologically liberal church is still better than no church at all and buying into a full-blown atheism or at least total indifference or even hostility toward Christianity. Liberals are more likely to be won over than Marxists and that is what Emily is referring to in her description of what she has seen in her college classes.

It’s a misnomer to believe that every church in one’s community is like a night club. There are 65 churches in my city of 130,000 people and not one of them resembles a night club.

But, since those kinds of churches probably have a larger light bill than the average congregation, it would be in their interest to spend a lot of the tithes on advertisment. The focus is wrong - we shouldn't be focusing on "bringing back traditional values" to fix the issue, we should be focusing on God, prayer, and walking in love and the values will follow. Trying to force people to accept or hold certain values without having a relationship with God is how we got into this mess in the first place!

Actually it is the other way around, God gave the commandments and law first before he sent his Son Jesus. Jesus himself said to the rich young man to follow the commandments before he asked him to follow him.
@@phillipmeyer4059 If you'll notice, the young rich man did not follow Christ and we can assume did not go to heaven, based on Christ's words about him after he left. The disciples, on the other hand, who did follow Him, were called to follow Him first, then were instructed on the commandments and in other ways. It's so ironic that you are using a person who did not ultimately follow Christ as your bright and shining example. If Jesus had intended that to be his template, He would have used it with those who did follow Him as well as with those who didn't.
Furthermore, God's plan was always to send His Son to fulfill the law. He knew that people could not follow the law and live blameless lives on their own. That's why He required regular sacrifices at the temple, to temporarily cover their sins. The Old Testament is full of examples of the Israeli people trying and failing to follow the commandments. However throughout that time, God foreshadowed the coming of His Son and the work His Son would do on the cross. We are saved by faith, not by works, but our faith results in works (which is following the Commandments and manifesting other Godly values.) It's the work of the Spirit in us that allows us to follow His commands.
Salvation is number one thing people need.

The minute you start thinking you’re a real spiritual person, you’re in real spiritual trouble. Any and every Christian is susceptible to being deceived at any time. Philippians 3:2-4 says to look out for certain people. Maintaining your Faith in Christ is an ongoing process. It’s so important to get together with other Christians on a regular basis so as to edify one another, help one another in maintaining their Faith and help one another to not be deceived into believing something other than what the Word of God says.

I (23M) pray daily for God to give me my godly virgin wife. Childhood wasn’t easy for me so I’ve never even dated and waiting until marriage was drilled into by my mother. In Toronto it is worse. They are building "prayer rooms" in public schools - to Islam. In class they actively promote Islam, in a public school.

The church's behavior over last few years has caused me to not want to be associated with it. It started with my own church. Believers are hard to find so i praise the Lord at home.

This passage is often misquoted to apply to all ppl who abandon traditional Christianity. If you look at the context, Paul is applying this prophecy to ppl who were in God's Church and rejected the truth. He is not talking about ppl who abandon this world's "Christian" denominations at all.
*I am on the Autism Spectrum.* One Thursday night at Prayer Meeting the Pastor verbally attacked me. He said in front of the congregation that I had been rude to his wife and the church pianist! Funny, his wife and in-laws and I talked for the longest time before the service, no one acted as if I had done anything! He never took me aside or mentioned anything until he was preaching that night.
He brought up language: he went on a rant that English only is to be spoken and it is exclusionary to speak anything else in the church. Never mind that two Philippino families habitually speak Tagalog there, and he forgot about when he recently called me over to help a visitor from the Ivory Coast who needed someone to speak French!
I never asked for any other language in the services, even though I speak perfect German as well as decent French. I mentioned that whispering in front of others is just as bad. He said he'd already addressed that, and I replied I hadn't heard him say anything about it.
He went on in the same vein; I got up, put my coat and hat on, and again, in front of the congregation he said "Leaving like a child!" At that point I'd had enough, and replied, "Resorting to name calling!"
As I left he, obviously angry, called out, " God bless you!"
I said nothing and left.
There are only liberal, non Bible believing churches in my area. I will have to find something online, I suppose. Maybe something in German!

I can believe that. MSM is so happy to put out stories about Christians losing their faith and blowing it out of proportion. I had issue with a news outlet who quoted (whether true or not) a pastor of a church somewhere in Europe which was burned down, " Oh, where is God?" . I wrote a comment saying " It's called persecution of the church and we should expect it. Those of us who know the Bible do expect it. We need better security, which many don't have.

I will be praying for Gen Z women but when I was a Millennial in my 20's just now becoming born again and learning who God was I can say the youth and young adult ministries have failed a lot of us. The church elders were not as " helpful" and were a lot of times either condemning young women without teaching ways of being better or trying to compete with us. Now in my 30's I have spent years UNLEARNING wrong doctrine from these set ministries and now I have an amazing relationship with God where I can hear him clearly, I know who and what the holy spirit is and know God's word for myself outside of Sunday service. I will say there should be an emphasis of knowing God personally by reading God's word yourself instead of knowing God through church only.
Without JESUS, you will be lonely and empty. Hopeless 💔 and brokenhearted. JESUS is not a religion. It's a relationship with the creator of the universe. ❤✝️🛐 My ROCK 💪🏻 is JESUS. ☝️😎 📖

Millennials left a long time ago, that fixation on gen z again...
Unfortunately, traditional church is known for twisting the Bible in ways that hurt women. Thankfully I think that it’s starting to change just not fast enough. I’m at the very end of millennial generation and though I haven’t left the church it’s still exhausting dealing with the generations of people who still see women as second class citizens. I found that going to church that allows women in their staff to be ordained and hold leadership positions is extremely helpful. It’s a much better environment compared to churches who dont.
One other thing I noticed is that dealing with health issues or anything of sort makes it harder. People with prosperity gospel mind set fully believe that you must have sinned horribly and that any bad thing happens to you is Gods way of punishing you. You get ostracized easily if don’t have all together. The only way you really know Jesus is to read the Bible and actually understand what it’s saying. Other people can’t be responsible for your relationship with Christ. It’s between you and God. Not a building full of people that are hurting just as much as you.
So even if it goes against the Bible?

I doubt much of that is happening in this country.
The church is not the physical building made with hands, but the church is the people that believe the gospel of Jesus Christ. Simple example: after service, when the people go home and the doors of the building are closed and the lights turned off, where is the church(?) is it still the building made with hands or is the people that are in their homes or other places now(?), see(?) the church is the collective of all believers, the church is the believers in Jesus.
There are plenty of Scriptures that give good reason as to why Believers ought to gather together regularly. A church building makes it possible for many to gather together, many to pray together, many to carry burdens of others, and for a larger variety of people with specific skills to do God’s work within the body of the Church and in the community. A church building allows for a variety of spiritually mature members to disciple the spiritually immature. Attending a church allows for those who walk according to the gospel to serve as examples to those who are learning how to walk according to the gospel of Jesus Christ. There are many more great reasons for one to meet with other Believers in the Church building. Most people look for a Church building when looking for a body of Believers to be with, not an unmarked house.

But still, the physical building made with hands is just that, a physical building made with hands, it is not the body of Christ because the people that believe in Jesus Christ are the body of Christ, but the physical building where people meet is not the church because the physical building made with hands is not the body of Christ, but the believers themselves are the body of Christ. Yes, fellowshipping with other believers is a good thing and should be done by all believers, and wherever they get together to fellowship, that is the church, whether they get together at a garden or outside or in a believer's house or a large auditorium or building, wherever the true believers gather together, the church is there because it is the believers that are the church of Christ, not the physical building that cannot think or speak or believe.
Hopefully they've ditched "religion" to go find the Good Shepherd, Jesus!

First off the organization's name is the Survey Center on American Life. The number of people surveyed is only about 5,800. Don't know the regions the people surveyed are from or what denominations they belonged to. So take results with a grain of salt.
I kind of have to protest the narrative this article tries to push is that because for the first time more women than men are leaving the church, that there is something wrong with the women of that generation or what the culture is teaching them. What about all the previous generations where men left more. What were the insidious reasons behind those exoduses??
Is the issue all from outside? What about the ugliness and hypocrisy coming out of some American churches, especially bigger ones? That can't be considered hypothetically as part of the problem?
Also the main question that this survey queried feminism indirectly was "Percentage of Americans who disagree with the statement "most churches and religious congregations treat men and women equally". And 65% of women 18-29 agreed, but if you look all the other sexes and age groups surveyed a majority agreed with the statement. So it has been the prevailing thought for decades. Gen Z is not the unicorn, people want to make it out to be. Look up the survey yourself.
Trend? This has been going on for 60 years (or more)... To make it something new-ish is to ignore the roots of what's going on in society today.
That's how this always goes, it always ignores the root causes and how far back they go, it's always "this current liberal situation is bad, we need to go back to this previous stage of liberalism that definitely didn't naturally lead to the current situation or anything, why would it?" They finally recognize that things are bad now still like some oh so sacred aspects of progressivism because they feel nice and so they just want to go back a couple decades to when they think things were fine and nice, when in reality the only reason things seemed fine then is because the negative outcomes just hadn't finished growing yet but the roots were long planted already. Conservatism is just progressivism driving the speed limit, and it's been that way for 100 years now.

Playing the blame game is useless, but i fear that the pendulum will start to swing back to the opposite extreme if we dont recognize amd examine all factors that led to where we are today

One of the main contributors to young(er) women leaving the church is purity culture. It’s been taught through a legalistic, Pharisee-like approach for decades. Young men are taught to be David: to seek after God’s heart, which is great. But they’re told that they can make mistakes or that being a flawed human is allowed. That includes a pass for David’s sin in committing adultery. Young women have been held to an impossible standard throughout many churches. While young men learn to embrace their own individual God-given destinies, young women aren’t being taught theology or grace. They’re being taught only how to be good wives and mothers. Though those things are good, they’re not everything God has called us to be. Look at Deborah, Martha, and Mary. Women are also taught that learning about their own bodies is somehow a form of sin. In reality, there the same standard for godly behavior should apply to both men and women in the faith.
Most churches have become quite liberal, so it may also be the case that the Church (as an institution in general) is becoming irrelevant also for young people with strong traditional values, because they find that their local churches militantly embrace the same values of the non-believer secular world.

Unfortunately, I think you're wrong. Surveys do show Gen Z women trending increasingly liberal as opposed to Gen Z men. This may create issues for true churches that attract far more young men than women, as it will hard to teach them to be husbands and fathers.

You are pointing out a difficult and more specific problem faced by churches that do hold orthodox doctrine and promote traditional values. My comment is more general, focused on the fact that each day there are less churches that do not embrace liberal ideas, which makes it difficult for people who hold strong traditional values (either men or women) to even find a church. I’ve attended many different Churches from one end of this country to the other over my long life and none of them seemed to me to only caring about tithes or had Pastor’s who exalted themselves. There are no perfect churches. It’s impossible to please everyone.

Well, I'm sorry to say I left the church years ago. It was just bad showbiz. Sorry to have to say that. I have better fellowship outside the church.
The main purpose of going to church is to learn about Jesus. Because there are real places that are the valley of the shadow of death where we need Jesus to keep us safe. It's not a problem if the people leave the church but they can't leave Jesus. And to carry what they know through life, be a good influence. But if they're leaving church and Jesus then that's a problem. If we aren't seeking Jesus at all then that's a big problem. Jesus is the only one that will keep us safe from demonic influences.
It is a SPIRITUAL WAR, let's pray to Jesus for help, how to fight for our young people, for our children. 🙏🙏🙏
