I have a wonderful set off tungsten carbide holderscand cutting tips these are interchangeable that use all three points and will fit perfectly with the myford. I used to be a tool maker then after an experimental machine shop operator at bae aerospace I still have all mt tool box with all the precision measuring instruments, sine bars. Everything for the toolmakers cabinet. I loved working on the myford it was my best machine. small precise and a tough little girl.
Cracking job on the lathe. Looks really well. I’ve never been a Nu-Tool fan either and can speak from experience as I worked there. Lots of cheap Chinese nastiness.
Turning a taper has nothing whatsoever to do with how the lathe is mounted . . . . . I could hang it from the ceiling and turn taper with it using the compound slide or tailstock offset. . . . . .
@@keithappleton My apologies. I didn't make myself very clear. I am not particularly erudite. What I meant to say was, how will you adjust if the machine is turning an unintentional taper? The bed is bolted to the chip tray which I assume is far from rigid, and this is then sat on the rubber. OK, I realise it's probably not rubber.. What I'm trying to say is if there is any twist in the bed, how will you jack or shim it to realign when there is nothing rigid to react against?
Beautiful! I just got myself a Myford, too, it really is a fun machine to work with. The clutch mechanism is missing quite a few parts though - the engaging lever for example, and some sort of leverage to connect the clutch to that lever. Could you - only if you have the time and desire to do so, of course - maybe take a few shots of the clutch mechanism, how it engages and what parts it is made of, so I can assess whether it'd be possible for me to make the missing parts by myself? I never worry, and mounted to the chip tray it's not falling anywhere. I didn't want to fix it to the bench because then the sound of it running would be amplified by the hollow kitchen cabinet underneath - and I have neighbours . . .
Perfect for me thanks. I've just bought an ML10 and one of my concerns was what to mount it on and how to mount it.
Its amazing can be achieved with so little if you are creative!

I find that those cheap carbide cutting tools work better with a little touch up on a green stone. A fresh edge works wonders.
When are you going to check thar it's cutting parallel ?
