    Hi mate I’ve been using a Poseidon 5 piece low mount with the heavy tip on it , 14.5 ft and a big o/h reel works great only been using it for the last month and picked up a snapper each time ,but I’ve been looking for a blank to build my own set up with a low mount spinning reel any suggestions? Preferably 12ft I’ve built and converted all my rods in the past to low mount except for my PENN prevail , which will get that low mount soon , drone fishing has got me hooked again on beach fishing , great video keep it up

      I know CTS blanks are very high quality but they also come with a premium price tag too. A good blank from them is around $700.

    I'll be going to K Mart :) Check out Paul Barnes videos. He's a big drone fisherman in NZ. Just uses basic gear, you don't need to get carried away spending thousands on gear. Just enough to handle the fish you'll be catching.

      Hey thanks for your question. I have an Alvey and while im a fan of the engineering and lack of maintenance required to keep one (I actually own an Alvey aswell) I am not a fan of using one for drone fishing. Ive seen others use them and more power to them but its just not for me.

      I would suggest sticking with whatever your budget permits. A land2air member bought a cheap chinese model of facebook marketplace cheap and has not had any problems with it yet, if budget isnt a concern Id go with a medium tier reel - shimano forcemaster range looks good

    Wicked mate thanks for the info just wondering do you prefer fishing with a spin or overhead reel

    • @Land2AirFishing
      @Land2AirFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a really good question...
      The braid on the overhead comes off the spool easy as with minimal resistance through the guides which gets the drone out nicely, but I hate having to manually guide the line back onto the spool when I'm winding in with or without a fish on.
      The spin reel causes big loops as the braid comes off causing alot of drag through the guides and slowing the drone a bit, depending on what bait release is being used it "may" cause the bait to release early if it's setting is not very tight.
      I guess though at the end of the day the spinning reel is alot more comfortable to use and takes alot of thought out when trying to land a good hook up, and you don't have to keep any tension when in free spool mode to prevent a birds nest like what can happen on an overhead...

    Hi Tim
    I want to build a overhead rod and put a Shimano TLD50 LRS 2 speed for my drone fishing. Using an Alvey at the moment. Who in Perth can build a very good overhead rod low mount I'm thinking would be best?
    Also what length rod would you recommend is best 13 or 14 foot for drone fishing.
    Would love to go out one day if a group of you are doing an overnighter. My 4WD with 100 litre fridge ready to go.
    Cheers
    Neil

    I've watched your video over and over and over again for the past few months....
    My gf bought me a slammer 10500
    With your knowledge....for drone fishing
    What are some of my options for rods?
    I've been having some trouble finding a rod with some strength to pull in the surf or spider weight from 400meters out....
    Snapped one rod the other day just trying to get the weight back....
    My reel has 80lb braid mainline with 100lb mono topshot....
    So any help will be helpful and very much appreciated

      Thankyou so much for sharing that with me, that really is very humbling 😀
      Without knowing what rod you broke, I can say I've tried 4x different rods for droning and have never had any issues with any of them, after reading your comment I would propose looking at some heavy rated assassin beach rods.
      They are expensive but have never let me down and I've given them heaps, alternatively I'm working on releasing a 13 foot spinning rod for droning, if your in Australia and follow my social media accounts you'll see an update regarding this coming soon. It's hard to do much with covid 19 slowing things down atm, but I have a brand new built 12 foot 2 piece rod rated for 25kg+ which is almost identical to the blue rod in this video 👍🏻

    What make was that blank you had custom built?

    • @Land2AirFishing
      @Land2AirFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not 100% sure, I asked when it was being built but it's an imported blank from Asia somewhere... whatever it is it's a fantastic blank. It's claimed to have a 300g casting weight 😎

  • @bandit4486

    Can you use an overhead on any surf rod?

    • @Land2AirFishing
      @Land2AirFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, most rods have a "spine" or a backbone i guess you could say where they flex at their most strongest point, if you use a spinning rod for an overhead reel Id imagine over time the rod will break. Also the guide spacing is slightly different, so if a normal spinning rod is reversed the mono or braid may actually come into contact with the blank itself when the rod buckles over.
      There are rods available that are suitable for both spinning and casting, what rods and brand etc im not sure, i prefer to stick with the product appropriate for the task.

      Tbh the rods I'm showcasing I've used for casting prior to owning a drone, but they work for droning very well also, you don't actually need high end gear it just makes fishing nicer
