  • As villages in the East Riding go, beyond the Goole area, I'm a little bit lost. The Welwick and Skeffling episodes were proof that the East Riding is full of these little villages that are just amazing to discover, and the further away I get from Goole the more I'm likely to discover. However, right on my doorstep as it were, you'd probably be amazed to learn that this parish is one I've never ever set foot in before, despite it being closer to Goole than some of the others I've already covered.
Yes, this one has escaped me until now, and I wonder why. I really do. This has a lot of things that I should really have known about long before this video! One of which is the Clock Tower which proudly stands on the banks of the River Aire, and is displayed quite rightly on the village sign at both ends of this lovely corner of the East Riding.
The Clock Tower is intrinsically linked to most things around this village in fact, including the old school, the new school, the pub, and even a street which all have references to the man that it was built for - George Percy, the second Earl of Beverley. A brief version of his story is told in this video, along with a few other bits and bobs which weld together nicely to form this village.
I should make you aware that at one point in this video, I use an image for a household waste recycling centre which is NOT the one that sits within the parish boundaries. It comes from a site somewhere in Hull . Please don't pull me up on this because there were no images of the actual site online that were not licensable, so I did my best to avoid that issue by using one that actually made a bit of sense rather than none whatsoever.
Either way, it's only a minor thing and I reckon your attention will be much more taken by the lovely village presented within. That village is AIRMYN.

Thank You for the video and history lesson. Born in Wakefield. Spent my first three years of life in Carlton then my parents immigrated to Sarasota, Florida. Been here here November of 1976. I love to come back to England with my wife and kids. We spend a lot of time in Snaith, Selby, York, Pollington and Goole.

Glad to be of service. You'll love some of the other villages coming up. Rawcliffe and Eggborough are two that are coming up next week and I'm currently working on the Haddleseys.
Carlton and Snaith won't be long away either 😁

Having come across your video of Airmyn completely by accident I have thoroughly enjoyed your visit. Thank you. I’m now looking forward to coming back and viewing more of your videos local to this area. I am in incomer from West Yorkshire to Rawcliffe and have visited Airmyn and the Percy Arms a number of times. It is a very attractive village and you were correct about the picnic tables on the river bank being an extension to the Percy Arms to cater for the outside drinking during lockdown. Thank you once again.

I really enjoy your videos. I live in Goole and am finding the East Riding of Yorkshire ones very interesting.
If you go onto the riverbank in Airmyn just past the clock tower and walk in the direction of Boothferry Bridge you’ll find some pigs on the bank of the Ouse! There’s also a bridle path which joins Airmyn to Goole hidden away in the housing estate 👍🏻

Cool, thanks! Lots more to come around Goole yet. Rawcliffe will be up Saturday, and this week I'm coming up to Howden :D

@@TheVillageIdiot The pigs belong to Dave, who lives in the old village school next to the clock tower. They are local celebrities - especially when they are allowed out. Lovely things who love being petted.

I enjoyed that. We have just bought a place across the river from where you were at Little Airmyn, Newland which made this video of particular interest to me this time.

When I get to Newland, I'll make a little trip down to Little Airmyn to include that

theres an odd place on the outside of airmyn, theres a sort of caravan looking building where people have gone to drink and do stuff like that and its been vandalized. near there are these rugby goal looking things but they have metal bars between the posts. i went there this afternoon and i still dont know what on earth its supposed to be. anyone got any ideas? i live in airmyn and the garage and john b backhouse shop have been demolished and there are some flood walls being built on the riverbank. i think the pigs near the clock tower are gone too.
