- Repair A Corrupted Master Boot Record on Windows 11
So you booted your pc up and received a BCD (BSOD) Blue Screen of Death error code? This is related to a corrupt (MBR) Master Boot Record. A effective way of troubleshooting corrupted MBR is to fix/repair Master Boot Record or MBR. One of the common reasons why an MBR can get corrupted is malware infections. Improper shutdowns can also lead to MBR corruption.
Use this commands:
bootrec /fixmbr
bootsect /nt60 SYS
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /scanos
bootrec /rebuildbcd

Hi Brian, thanks for a great vid! Can we expect a guide regarding fixing BCD / MBR / GPT (assuming that HDD/SSD is not broken)? Including how to recognize what partitioning style is being used on a PC, if its UEFI or Legacy etc. There are tons of commands that we can try randomly hoping it will work - but explaining how its actually working and how to use those commands properly is something totally different. Would love to watch that video

Please any sort of insight, I've followed your steps but It says 0 Identified windows installations on both C & D drive after getting to the rebuild command, I've never had a virtual machine before.

@@thebreifcaseman269 Essentially it's another System on your system with the OS of your choice that acts entirely seperate from the other, So think of it as owning two different computers.
@@MisztahFroszteh ok so mine computer aprently has 2 windows 11 operating systems installed, does this mean that I am using the wrong drive with these commands and so I should select another drive.

Hey everyone, i just got mine working and wanted to let everyone know what i did. I learned from somewhere that you need to hold left shift while
restarting to get to more options, after that i went to system restore and there were restore points whereas previously it wasn’t working. my first restore point didn’t work so i chose another and it did work. i hope everyone can try this and get it working (i also did the command prompt commands listed in these videos just for safe measure and they also worked whereas they didn’t before) so basically i’m telling you to do the left shift restart thing before trying anything of this

Hi, I know I'm 4 months late, but I hit a problem last night trying to do a system restore (win11) to a date at the beginning of Dec'22. My PC now won't boot and I keep getting the dreaded critical process died error. When I go to reset my PC it hits an issue trying either of the options. When following this video, I ran the bootrec /rebuildbcd and it identified ZERO windows installations...I'm completely stumped now. :( Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks for this amazing video. Can this fix virtual machine vhdx? I am having the same automatic repair issue when attempting to boot a vm from an existing vhdx. I have followed your incredible steps to the part rebuildbcd and realise that your instructions were for physical machines :). Any way or is there a command to finish this off for the vhdx? Thanks for the video! What if you can’t detect your OS? The drive is there, some partitions are detected and about 1 time in 20 I can actually get into windows successfully. Once there the boot partition scans as “healthy” but any restart ends in the same problem.

Always wondered why Advanced option Reset Windows doesn't provide same opportunity as doing in-place Windows install that saves all apps and data. Why create need to reinstall apps?

You can use cd /d C: to change drive path in CMD. powershell you can just use CD

I get the "Totaly identified windows installations: 0" thing, on bare metal. I guess grub or something screwed with the boot files, cant reset (i want to keep my files) or repair since it cannot find the windows installation, i guess i might have to just use some live iso and move my files from there

Yes, Paul, virtual machines are a great way trying things out without destroying your main operating system. It sorts are a great way of training and learning
I thought Windows 11 only ran on UEFI/GPT systems, not the old BIOS/MBR structure?? In any case, thx for the various DOS commands, always useful.
UEFI GPT setup is for Windows 11. If you're installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware, this will be using MBR master boot record setup as this uses old legacy hardware. So yes, if you're running a modern computer with Windows 11, then this method would be no use to you

Rebuild mentioned zero installations detected. Inaccessible boot device bsod error. It seems common. I'm guessing it relates to ssd corruption if it's not a windows issue

Weirdly enough, I get an error message from Windows 11 basically saying that I can't reset the whole operating system, I used secure boot as well as safe mode but I can't even get that to work
New windows installed after some successful boots it started like this example. Whenever it happens it never repairs.

Hi Brian. I'm a new subscriber. I cloned and installed an ssd and also upgraded the ram from 4gb to 8gb. Everything worked well for a day but now I get a blue screen with an error message (0xc00000e) everytime I turn my laptop on.
Check your device manager by right clicking on the start button and select device manager. You may see an error or yellow! The piece of hardware doesn't have the correct driver. Try that and let me know

There are a bunch of programs you could use but total commander comes to mind as this has been around for a very long time and is an awesome piece of software

Would this work on a drive protected with bitlocker?
BitLocker is encryption and restricts a lot of features from running correctly. You may need to decrypt the drive first

They move work for Windows 8 8.1 and Windows 10. As long as it's MBR running GPT be slightly different

operable program or batch file.
Maybe because you're set up is not MBR

Mine says 0 in found operating systems while yesterday i was just using my laptop normally like wtf, my antivirus (avira) did remove two files, one being a trojan horse but out of nowhere, i didn't install anything new

In my case the windows 10 is on physical machine but the /scanos doesn't find my OS.
Are you scanning the correct directory? You can change the drive letter and then type DIR to see whether you can see the windows director. This will confirm you are in the right place
@@Britec09 Yes, now the bootsect /nt60 SYS says "the update maybe unreliable since the volume could not be locked during the update", "Access denied" and then it says "boot code was successfully uptated on all targeted volumes".
After this when I ran bootrec /fix boot I still get access denied.
I have checked the partition and it's Windows partition.
ScanOs result is still 0

i got the exact same messages on your screen (you said u were on a virtual machine) at the end of your video i did not have the option to answer yes or all so it did not work for me 😞

When the computer is doing a repair after 3 crashes why doesn't the computer fix the boot record? I've never had the computer fix my system while doing a repair.
I don't think I've ever seen Windows fix itself ever with any of the tools than it has to offer

Following the tutorial, I ended up losing an SSD of 1 TB 🤡😞
How could you have a problem booting back to desktop from rootkit if you just rebuilt the mbr?!
