Pure awesomeness! Back when Oldsmobile was still flying high. None of us could ever have dreamed that a short 24 years later Olds would be done.

"Introduced in 1966, with a shape vaguely reminiscent of a purportedly female Soviet discus hurler, the Olds Toronado never made much of a sales mark until it's image was changed from muscle to svelte in 1971."

I currently own a 1983 5L 307 toro and I would never sell the car. It still is a increidble car even in 2023 and a attention grabber. Wish Oldsmobile was still in production as I know they would and did make quality stuff

Always liked the oddball styling. The Riviera version was gorgeous. Gramma cars that came with cigarette burns in the velour seats.

The small Toro is a much better-looking car TODAY than it was in '79. Maybe that's because we have all suffered through so many years of bland, blob cars... 5:16: With the Toro swinging away from the mansion as the music swells; that's a beautiful little scene!

Halogen was back then…wow!!! For that time period Halogen was probably considered high tech. Around 1985-1986 the sealed beam era started. Sealed Beam were glass lenses. Starting around 30 years later the HID and LED craze started.

    • @markscungio2996

Sealed beam headlights started in 1940 in the USA. Halogen was a type of filament, it becomes incandescent at a higher temperature than tungsten standard bulbs did before it

was never lucky enough to ride in an Oldsmobile though both of my parents learned to drive in an Oldsmobile a 1974 Cutlass S and a 1978 Delta 88 respectively. my late maternal grandparents were mostly GM people between them they owned cars by 4 of GM's 5 main divisions Buick Cadillac Chevrolet and Oldsmobile and grandpas 2nd wife owned a 1st gen Chrysler Sebring LXI Coupe in the late 90s early 2000s when I would've gotten my driver's license. it was sad when Oldsmobile dissolved in 04 my choice for a starter car had I gotten my License in 01 was either a Toyota Camry Solara XSE V6 convertible or a Chrysler Sebring Convertible my late maternal grandmother drove a 1990 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder DX automatic transmission at the time or the car she was loaned to drive me to school in which was a 1997 Chevrolet Malibu know it was a Malibu because they stopped making the Caprice in Dec 1996 along with the Impala due to dwindling sales and stricter EPA Emissions Standards the starting price for the Impala for 1996 was $22,500 where as a Toyota Avalon actually cost 4,948 more than the Impala where as a Lincoln Continental of the same model year started at nearly $40,000

This Olds Toronado and the Cadillac Eldorado were " sister cars " and always were, dating back to 1967 when the Cadillac took on the same underpinning and front wheel drive Olds unit for the Eldorado. The Olds was just a little less " chrome glitzy " and less expensive than the Caddy. The Buick Riviera didn't join the Olds and Cadillac front drive until 1980.

Never had the pleasure of seeing this car in person. I see more Buick Rivieras and Cadillac Eldorados of this same era, but never any Toronados. Oldsmobile doesn’t seem like it was very popular in my area. The only one I’ve seen is a beat up 1990’s Olds 98 that was being driven by a bunch of tweakers.

Ah yes the last traditional toronado, I drove them but I think they should've paid more attention to interior dimensions and seating comfort, unfortunately 1979 -85 E bodies weren't quite the outstanding long lasting preformers the 66-78 models were.

The toronado for 1979 -85 wasn't quite the car 66-78 was, would have been a car great if oldsmobile had kept the 78 drivetrain and rear suspension, that's why 86-92 toronado will eventually become collectables too..
