GM, as a whole, NAILED it with these cars!!!!!! The brochures for the '77 Caprice/Impala & Delta 88, in particular, stated "We made it right for the times without making it wrong for the people", & "The family car that didn't forget the family", respectively. Both were bang-on!!!!!
My maternal grandpa had one of these, baby blue exterior and interior coupe with the 8-track and lifetime goodwrench when my mom was a kid, he drove it for 15 years!
These cars wete built really tough. I can remember how many of them were around 25 years after they were sold. 2 out of 3 families in the poorer neighborhoods had a GM sedan.
I remember my bosses sister and her husband had one with the 3.8 V6. It was a dog on acceleration and got lousy gas mileage because you had to floor the accelerator often just to keep up with traffic. They kept if for a few years and finally traded it in. I drove it a few times and it was just awful not to mention it was as base as you could get, I think the only option it had was Air conditioning, no power windows, seats or locks, no vinyl top, just a plain beige box.
These cars drove and rode like a Cadillac. These were a poor man's Cadillac. I loved mine when I was in. My 20s, that car was the best car I've ever had.I wish I had it today
I still remember my teacher picking up my sister and I on our way to school each morning in his 1972 Delta 88 Royale that I ended up buying off him at age 15. He bought a New Delta 88 Royale it was 2 tone Blue and so Plush with the light blue velour and so quiet and smooth. I thought the ‘72 had a great ride and was quiet.
If that was today, your teacher would be arrested and put in jail. How times have changed. It was so innocent back then and people were kind. I miss those days and those beautiful cars!
The Oldsmobile was an upper brand car in the price range of Buick and Mercury back then. They act like all of America could buy one of these. That was Chevrolet & Ford's domain.
Give me the coupe in Holiday form with rally super stock wheels, 350 Rocket and gauge pkg in that awesome green as shown on the Royal sedan. They must have made a last minute change by production time. They show the Pontiac 4.3 liter 265 V8 as being available but I only ever saw the weaker Olds 260 in these cars for the 1980 to 82 model years.
Nice looking cars, the only good engine offering was the gas 350, pretty strong by 1980 standards. The 307 was a slug and the smaller engine was even worse (won’t even mention the diesel). Then new transmissions were trash too. Great driving cars though and the bodies held up much better rust wise than earlier models.
Big deal. That happened when these cars were old. Headliners can be easily replaced and hoods/decklids repainted. The foreign crap also had shoddy thin pain on many cars and didn't age well in these years so it wasn't just GM, Ford and Chrysler.
I remember when the 1980 Oldsmobile came out it had the gorgeous red hood on it with the word Oldsmobile at the bottom. I remember clipping off my first one and rescuing the spring as it hit the pavement and was rolling away. Peddling off on my bicycle I had a nice new one to add to my collection. Then a trip to the junkyard to get the bottom part the mount and put it all back together. Good ornament collecting was a fun hobby for young guys back in the 1980s.
Sold a huge amount of these cars back in 78/79/80 .
They were really great cars back then.
Very little warranty issues at the dealership I was at.
I had the 1984, 2-door with the vinyl roof. it was the smoothest, quietest car I ever had. Pretty quick too.
I wish these cars were on sale now❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
New Oldsmobiles are in early this year!
Pier one imports

You are so right
Loved the 1980-1985 Olds 88 Coupe!!! 🙌😎👍

I still drive one of them. Me lucky guy....
Thanks for sharing this video about these revolutionary full-size GM designs
That's one fancy integral air spoiler
2022. Own 1998 Oldsmobile Regency 98. Miles 110K. Just took summer vacation 10 states in 11 days. Not one issue.

And there was the Holiday Coupe in 1980!

myyyyy favorite car forever
Cool, a tribute to my 1981 Oldsmobile Delta 88 sedan . I love these old dealer videos .
And my 1981 Regency which was stolen from me. What a glorious car that was...
Back in the day when GM built cars worth buying ❤❤❤
I miss this generation of Oldsmobile

Beautiful cars. I remember those cars.
My God. How innocent was the time.
Indeed. And we thought it was crazy then. Little did we know.
I miss Oldsmobile!!

One of the best car ever made!

Yes, You sold me on the 1980. I would like to place a order. 350 gasoline engine, green color and Royale. What will you give me for my 1978 Delta?
I take that Olds 350 too! 👍
yes 350 best .

Is this the same guy who narrated Forensic Files?
Yes it is Peter Thomas
I would take this over any new BMW!
We had the 84 88 royale with cheese.

True the 307 was not gonna win many races lol. But you’d be surprised if you put a Holley carb it definitely wakes it up. Simple mod.
I thought the gas 350 wasn't available after 1979.
Was class of 1980 go class of 1980 1980 best 80s class 1980 had best cars
The aluminum rear bumper reinforcement had to be one of the worse ideas.... EVER.
up 15 cents...wow...
The worst part was the THM200 transmission.
I think that transmission came with the 4.3 liter motor!!!!...my 81 has the 200r4 because it has the 307 motor!!!
Barely lighter than a Sherman tank for your convenience
and...headliners that sag, brittle plastics, and fading oxidizing metallic paints!
Well back then most manufacturers were cost cutting not just GM but Chrysler and Ford as well.
@@andregonsalvez9244 Chrysler was broke and the 80’s were just dark for the American automotive industry

What else could one expect during the Malaise Era?
Think of videos like this one as a reminder not to get caught up in the hype.
