    I did a video of one of these almost a double ear ago when I'd just started and I was really shocked that the Granit was so easy to pick. Of course the newer disc detainer versions are almost impossible, so I guess the jokes on us :-)

      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did yours have the same core? I'm curious now because of the speculation in the comments that this may be a fake. As for the new ones... that Abus Plus core is a beast.

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, as far as I know. I never gutted it... it was back in the dark days when I didn't have followers etc.ill post the vid link in another comment as it's likely to go to your held/spam folder...

    Great job picking brother as usual, was looking forward to the Abus granite, never seen one before except in catalogues lol thanks for sharing it with us!

    The moment I saw "Abus Granit" in the title I was like "What!?" but then I realized it was an older Granit still a good pick though.

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Sorry... the Plus core is still beyond me.

      It's all good I'm pretty sure only like 3 people have a even a slim chance of picking an Abus Plus core

    The current version of this padlock, as well as all other Grant models, I believe, does come with a disc detainer core.

    nice to see the standard alignment pin in the last chamber and a fixed anti-drill plate. an average lock might have to stop 0+ bandits in their lifetime, but open smooth and with ease thousands of times with the key. Remember not to compare the picking in hand or vise to one in the field, stuck to a bracket in a weird angle on a rainy day with a drooling doberman smiling behind you :)

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That's a fair point. It's one reason that I don't pick padlocks in a vice anymore... to add some realism and make picking a bit harder. But picking in the field will always be a different animal... environmental and mounts options are diverse and can conspire to make "easy" lock quite difficult.

  • @StephenLinhart
    @StephenLinhart 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    the metal on the core looks exactly like the drill protection plate… Did you try a file?

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's definitely not steel... tried a magnet.

    Just added a 37/55 with the ABUSPlus system to my lock collection. Smoothest lock I own by a large margin. When did the plus core initially surface?

  • @BaileySwartz

    Could the core be non-oem? It seems weak for an Abus...

    • @mynock250
      @mynock250 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Look like every abus core (except for possible zinc core body) I've seen. It is also a much older style.

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think it's OEM... I also have a 36 that I just opened up and found the same core.

    Hay L.P.L. NICE SPP'D BUDDY. I Guess even abus cuts corners sometimes disappointment on the core .but 4 spools. look like a fun pick .you pick that in under one minute. .thanks for sharing. another video for the library. .😎😎😎😎😎

    Good pick! There is something about Abus locks that I just like. Weird situation with the core though.

    Tough lock for it's size, shame about the core. Do you think a blow-torch would get you in?
    Also I sent you a pm not sure if you saw it.

    • @markleng67
      @markleng67 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      LPL don't need no stinkin' torch! ;-)

      LOL... a torch could work.

  • @DonzLockz

    Maybe this was their Abus Zinc model!

  • @JEMHull-gf9el
    @JEMHull-gf9el 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    with all those spools it was probably a delight to pick. But I would expect little more fro a Abus "granit". Perhaps that is why they moved to the disc detainer core.

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely... the old Granits were unimpressive, pick wise.

  • @R2gbs
    @R2gbs 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Those pins are small, what is the diameter?

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No idea... but it's pretty standard for padlock-sized cylinders.

  • @dirk4926

    I wonder if the pot metal core body could be melted with a torch?

  • @cameronsmith3988
    @cameronsmith3988 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is it feasible to melt the bible out as seen on the other locks with zinc components?

  • @Achim.R
    @Achim.R 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey. Would you say the lock is a good one for lock my 20ft container ? Or is it not so secure. Can you recommend me a safe one till 100$

    • @amr8522
      @amr8522 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the new abus granit 37/55 or 37RK/80 is very good and safe

    Old lock style for the Abus Granite lock 37/55. The lock has a completely different key and lock materials.

  • @dsloop3907

    less than a minute to open it. Is that an Abus/ Masterlock?

      There's only so much that you can do with spools.

    Wich is the best padlock?

  • @wysmolek
    @wysmolek 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How old is it? I call it a fake! Not abus core for sure. Or it's older than dinosaurs or it's a 100% fake or at least re-cored lock.

    • @BL-yj2wp
      @BL-yj2wp 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, it´s not like Abus doesn´t put out lemons from time to time ...
      But then again, they are not stupid, a zinc core would be a huge weakness on a high security lock.

    • @ganzonomy
      @ganzonomy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This was the ABUS Granit BEFORE ABUS moved onto its current disc-detainer design. It's older than dinosaurs.

    • @BL-yj2wp
      @BL-yj2wp 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So before 2001.
      But let me tell you, zinc was an inappropriate material for high security locks even in the late 20. century.

    • @ganzonomy
      @ganzonomy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh absolutely. Jut get a blowtorch and off you go to melting it open.

    • @wysmolek
      @wysmolek 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Come on that's an abus' flagship, Crème de la Crème... Even if it's really old putting 5 piner with spools seems a bit strange. It's the same core as in a "love lock" junk (or even worse). Serrated and other funky pins are not so new.

  • @patrice373
    @patrice373 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    How about when it's integrated to an Abus ConHasp 215/100 padlock box ?

  • @saritagracia
    @saritagracia 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    zinc alloys used for castings are about as strong as brass (some brasses are stronger then others) and almost as corrosion resistant. that is, if they're using the good stuff. but i'm sure abus is.

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      See my videos #30 and 139 for an idea of why zinc is a very, very bad idea for the lock core.

    • @saritagracia
      @saritagracia 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i admit, low melting points are big weak weakness for zinc alloys. But my first comment is still true, *quality* zinc alloys are just as strong as brass. bad idea? sure, but it will still take a torch to get through it in decent time, especially if the body has a much higher melting point, such as this lock.
      in addition, i intended to infer nothing as far as its fitness as a lock material, other than it's strength, which most assume to always be poor. in fact, high point makes their (+P rated) firearms mostly out of zamak- guns that are renown for -chunkiness- durability and reliability.

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +superdupergrover I referenced the two videos to show zinc melting, and the particular attack used to melt the core.

      i understand now. i assumed you got mixed up, like i did evidently. you know what they say about assumptions:)

    There looks to be a newer variation of this same lock with, according to the technical sheet, an Abus plus disc cylinder. I'm looking for a good, budget friendly lock and I was looking at the 37/80 but its kind of expensive. The 37/55 is $20 cheaper and I was wondering if the new 37/55 used the same core as the 37/80.

    • @PucciBear
      @PucciBear 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      same disc cylinder core with a 3D key. the lock in this video is an older model.

  • @My1xT

    my abus 72/40 or whatever it is also doesnt have brass body.

    • @BL-yj2wp
      @BL-yj2wp 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My 72/40 has an outer aluminium, inner chromed brass core. But that in the video looks a lot like cast zinc.

    I get you have some experience with these locks could you disclose some of that like you picked this off camera for 5 sessions, at least 1 hour of practice and getting this picked open before showing this result

  • @pbanthonyv
    @pbanthonyv 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Less than one quiet minute for a $100 lock, not good.

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, it's old also. The newer version is far more pick resistant.
