definitely Matrix nod in the initial fighting sequence. I also got Wade Wilson vibes (from X-Men: Wolverine in the part with the dual swords). Nothing better than seeing one of my fav. bands throwing in nods & respect for my fav. actor! lol

But by going within and killing versions of him that no longer work he frees himself, even though he looks like he hasn't won the fight (suggesting it's ongoing) but it's enough that he finds the key to his prison *within* and as we come out of his third eye he opens his worldly eyes to find the cell door open.
