    I have mine along with the 80 1.9 and the 21 4.0 for 2 months and absolutely fell in love with it. The images look a lot different compared to my Leica Q2 and Eos R. The rendition has much more depth and information, looks more life-like and clean.

    I am shooting landscapes, portraits, macro with an adapted lens and taking it on mountaineering trips. I had the Mark I and was so happy with the image quality that I just had to upgrade to the faster Mark II. It is an inspiring camera to shoot with, and I like to be slowed down a bit to think more about what and how I am shooting. Best camera by far I have ever had.

    Hey guys, you can move the auto focus point with your thumb on the touch-screen while looking through the EVF. I choose the top right hand quadrant of the touch-screen to be active when used that way, and it works just like the "joystick" on a Sony A7R series camera. What it doesn't do is track moving objects. It's a perfect camera for anything that doesn't move fast.

    Something no one seem to talk about with the x1d ii - over heating. Working in spring and summer of the southeast, the Hassy is not the camera for outdoor shooting in direct sun. Additionally, the camera seems to overheat if you use the bracketing feature for say 5-7 bracketed shots fairly quick. Within about 15-20 minutes of quick shooting the camera overheats from processing all those 50mp raws. You have to slow down to let the camera cool down.
    At the end of the day… the images are worth it. Simply stunning.

    If you can live the slow Mk 1, then image quality is the same. I have been really happy with my Hasselblad X1D Mk 1.
    If you are using LR - try Hasselblad own raw converter Phocus - it must better than LR.
    If you ever get the chance try the 90mm portrait lens, it is simply great...

    The Sigma DP Quattro is the closest look to film, in good light. The Hassleblad DOF and high Iso are great though but the overall tonal look looks very close to all cmos sensors.

    Leaf shutter and X-sync. As the shutter's X-sync goes all the way to 1/2000 sec, there is a challenge here: flash duration. Slow strobes (typically cheap Chinese brands and Profoto) may take 1/200 sec to flash. broncolor typically is fast. The Westcott lists flash duration (source B&H) as 1/19,000 sec. If that relates to full power, then this is an ideal match for the Hasselblad. The 1/19,000 easily fits in the 1/2000. The other way around, a slow strobe would have its flash cut off by the fast exposure and you can not use its full potential. In brightly lit (decent proportional modeling lights) or overpowering the sun, the Hasselblad-Westcott combination are ideally positioned. Now take the Fujifilm small "medium format" with its 1/125 X-sync and nothing flash/strobes works fine anymore

    • @TheSlantedLens
      @TheSlantedLens  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Westcott is a great match to the Hasselblad. You have to go to high speed sync with the Fuji. That Westcott FJ400 is an incredible head.

      Old argument. This camera is only $1k more than a Sony a9 and the Fuji GFX 50 and 50S are cheaper than the a9 and in the same price range as the a7RIV and Nikon Z7.

  • @DigitalGrease
    @DigitalGrease 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    FYI: The sensor is the same Sony sensor in the GFX 50, and it is 14bit data coming off the sensor. Writing a 16bit raw file from 14 bits of data is, well, a very effective bit of marketing misdirection....

  • @jpdj2715
    @jpdj2715 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice review. Note that 70% larger is nice marketing talk, but has no merit. Resolution as perceived by humans relates linearly to size and then the best we can use as a basis for comparison is the image diagonal. The Hasselblad sensor is 30% larger linearly. As this also relates to pixels, relative to a Leica M10, it has 44% more pixels where a Nikon Z 7 would have 38% more pixels.
    As to the term "medium format", I'm inclined to still call this Hasselblad "small format" as per old definitions - this is a format that back in the day would be put on127, not 120 film - so definitely small format.
    Note that marketers are inclined to compare area numbers (not linear), so all differences at the area level need to have their square root taken to be meaningful. What does this mean for pixels: 100 megapixel has 2x the detail resolution potential compared to 25 megapixel.

    • @TheSlantedLens
      @TheSlantedLens  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes its true that with negative film you can over expose it and its great but with digital you are better to under expose the image. All our camera tests show this. You can underexpose a digital image on most cameras 2 or 3 stops and still get a good image.

    There was clearly visible noise at ISO 800. I'm watching your review on a 5K screened and at 1600 it was unmistakable. And at 25,000 ISO in your side by side comparison, there was noticeably more "pink" in the red neon signage above the marquee. Although not a Medium format sensor, one's money would be better spent buying a full frame like the Canon 1dx mklll, which also shoots in 4K at 10bit and a 4:2:2 color space and noticeably far less noise at much higher ISO's shooting stills.

    BEST FEATURE OF THIS CAMERA LEAF SHUTTER !!!!! remind me me a lot of my 503 for group photos or any portrait on location with flash nothing compare to this camera (only Leica S3 has the same feature of a leaf shutter) But weight and 35 ergonomic and quality file on this camera are amazing for that price nothing compare ( I do rent mine I can't afford it )
    I like to share my knowledge do not use any flash with default 1/200 second you need to have a T1 preferable of at list 1/1100 sec or 1/1600 of sec to get great results.
    I get excellent result with Profoto Compact old model 1/900 sec with Pocket wizard 3 you can not use the regular pocket wizard they will not allow you to sync to an elevate T1 their is special setting for that feature on the PW3 . With Paul c Buff Digibee using their own transmitter I was able to sync up to 1/2000 of sec no problem even their t1 is 1/975 of sec. Example your 400 J the T1 is 1/280 of sec at full power the lowest power is 1/3000 sec Is still to slow you can reduce the power but then your flash distance will suffer. You guys be safe great post as usual.
