My BFF was on Ozempic for over a year and she had to have emergency surgery due to acute pancreatitis that cause an inflamed gall bladder. It was terrifying. She thought she was dying. She had been having what she thought was extreme acid reflux for months before it got so bad she went to the hospital. Now she doesn’t know whether she can or should continue with the meds. They had been really helping her lose the weight she’d been struggling to lose for decades and now she’s scared she’s going to lose all that progress she’s made. But she also never wants to experience pain like that again. And then on top of it she found out people with Diabetes weren’t able to get the meds and she feels awful that she may have contributed to the shortage

Rapid weight loss can cause gallbladder problems so it's probably not the drug but rather a combination of predisposition and rapid weight loss.

It is mostly about doctors being willing to prescribe it to people it was not meant for. Doctors prescribing Ozempic to people who are not diabetic and Wegovy to people who are just overweight and not obese. Neither drug is recommended for people who have no complications from their weight and face no serious health risks. It was never meant for people who just wants to lose a few pounds.

The more benefits it provides will make the price continue to go up making it harder for those who truly need it to regulate blood sugar to be able to actually afford it. These pharmaceutical companies should not be able to put such prices on any of these drugs that are truly beneficial to people that are in need of them. It is absolutely pathetic that there are individuals out here who truly need certain drugs to help them to function daily that they have to make the choice of either buying food and other necessitaties for their families or paying that high price for the life saving drugs needed to keep them going. Even with insurance some still cant afford to fill all of their perspirations and has to pick and choose which ones they can afford to purchase regularly. If you are prescribed a medication for long term and you cant afford to keep that prescription filled then it is almost pointless to even start it in the first place. Many drugs have to be taken over a period of time for them to actually be affective.

I am struggling to understand its purpose. I mean, if you eat less than you burn you will lose weight (caloric decificit), if you eat as much as you burn you will mantain weight (caloric balance) and if you eat more than you burn you will gain weight (caloric surplus). It's that simple. I can't understand why someone has to use drugs when it's really that simple.

21 here with gen X parents. some people are saying “lmao why dont you just exercise to lose weight”. When youre middle aged, it’s not that easy anymore. especially if it wasnt something consistent in your life before. My mom (51) is struggling. She used to work nightshift at a hospital for years, and she was a beast bc of how active she had to be. miles and miles of walking in that hospital, but eventually she quit her job to be there for my senior year of high school and my brother’s first year of high school. we didnt see her much when she worked. so, yeah, my mom was less active because she needed to be there for us. and with her age (as well as 12 years walking miles and miles all night) also came with really shitty joints that keep her from doing some stuff. like exercise. and my mom is a strong, willful woman. she doesnt have the issue of over-eating, but shes extremely prone to weight gain, and at risk of being diabetic. she has to restrict herself SO MUCH as it is, while still fighting weight gain as she grows older. this drug is for people like my mom, who has the will to do these things but physically cant.

Not everything is self-control. I have been thin my entire life. 5'7 102 lb without dieting. Three children nothing I did caused me to gain weight. I developed rheumatoid arthritis which restricts my movements. Lots of pain. On top of that, I went through the change of life and that was the real killer. I struggle with weight now not to the point where I'm technically obese. But, I have never weighed what I do now when I was 9 months pregnant. I eat very well . I restrict myself and still the weight does not come off. So you see, not everyone that needs to lose weight is because they just can't put down the spoon and fork. But I'm not taking this med. Just dealing with life as it comes, and we'll see what this does to other people. I don't want to be the guinea pig.
