This dish was brought to Hawaii over half a century ago by Filipinos contracted to work on sugar plantations . You can even find it every day at Japanese and Chinese lunch shops and has been very popular amongst Hawaii's melting pot of nationalities for generations. It's also common to see locals have it for breakfast served with a fried egg on top.

Dinuguan is also a delicacy in Greece. The Spartan meal of melas zomos, or black soup, was made of boiled pigs' blood, pork, and vinegar. It is probable that the source of the name fritada for the Guam dish came from a dish of the same name in Monterrey, Mexico where it refers to a stew made with the innards and blood of a young lamb.
I took a few coworkers to a Filipino restaurant called Bruja in Brighton as they were insistent on trying dishes I ate. From the pancit, chicken adobo, dinuguan and lechon kawali their favourite was the dinuguan. I'm glad more people are willing to try our food.
I had my first dinuguan at a relative's party when we lived in the Philippines. They told me it was "chocolate" stew. So, the 8 year old me ate two bowls with puto and loved it! They forgot I'm part Irish german, my grandfather often served us drisheen and blutwurst, both blood sausages so dinuguan didn't faze me at all. Jokes on them!! 😂😂
@@eggy2229 My kids will say yuck if I told them it's blood. Busy as I am, I have no time to fix them another food. Besides, I don't normally cook Filipino food like dinuguan but order it. "Mom" what is this? It's dinuguan. What does that mean, Oh it's chocolate meat." They found out as they grew older though.

4:21 The 'unexplainable' thing she's referring to is actually umami. Blood has a _lot_ of glutamic acid (or glutamate), which when cooked is one of the reasons why there's that tastiness that's often associated with umami. Edit: The best dinuguan I've ever had _definitely_ has to be the one I had in Ilocos (one of the northernmost provinces). It was *very* thick and meaty, vinegary, had a lot of garlic and chili, and was packed with salty _chicharong bulaklak_ -- which is deep-fried connective tissue you'd find in the abdominal cavity. Exceptionally good, especially with beer. Shaved off maybe a year or two off my life with all that cholesterol. Still worth it though.
I agree po. Other provinces cooked dinuguan that tasted a little sweet. I didn't like it. I like dinuguan to have garlic, vinegar, and lemon grass and taste a little salty.
We each have our opinions to taste but my favorite Dinuguan was from Cagayan De Oro. Tasted Ilocos, and almost every other city’s dinuguan but that was definitely my favorite.

Dinuguan like adobo also has a bunch of variations depending on the province. In our province, we cook dinuguan dried and we mix it with chicharon or kawali (whichever available), not too sour but kinda sweet and cruchy, with a touch of spice.
I love Dinuguan. It's made of pork blood, vinegar, pig stomach cut into mouth-sized slices, finger chili. Pork meat can also be added. I don't know exactly how it is prepared. Mother loves to cook it for our meals when I was a kid. Some religions like the Iglesia Ni Cristo don't eat it. But I'm a Born Again Christian. We can eat anything edible. It's really delicious, more so with a steaming rice on your plate.

There is usually at least one person that gets freaked out hearing there is blood in it before eating. I recommend letting people try the food first. Very good that they all ate it with rice (probably because they were all nervous about the blood). I would also recommend having people eat the Filipino way - with a spoon and fork. (So much easier to eat the meat and rice together with a spoon!)
Nah, its rude to feed someone something without explaining or describing what it is. Let them make the choice. You may unknowingly violate their cultural or religious beliefs. You may also trigger allergies. This is especially true with karekare since it contains peanuts.
Many countries in Europe, Africa, and the ME have Blood dishes. My buddy from England introduced me to blood pudding which had a texture like tofu but softer. It was good.

That's what I have read from a World History book! And I said...Oh, it seems like similar to our Dinuguan! 👍😊
Talaga? Ang galing naman
I took a few coworkers to a Filipino restaurant called Bruja in Brighton as they were insistent on trying dishes I ate. From the pancit, chicken adobo, dinuguan and lechon kawali their favourite was the dinuguan. I'm glad more people are willing to try our food.
I will be in Brighton end of next month, would love to try this Bruja restaurant with my friends..:)
hahaha 😂
I equate it those who like black pudding if it was without the casings and more soupy.

Yes! Pinaka masarap na Dinuguan na natikman ko, lutong Ilocano talaga. 💖
The best talaga ang dinuguan na luto ng ilocano.. Lalo ung laman loob tas pinalutong bago ihalo ung dugo... Yummy yummy kakagutom
That lady who loved that food an really really ate the Dinuguan with gusto... big respect! You have won our Filipino heart.
Your friends will really enjoy the Philippines since they love our food.
Totoo, pinakamasarap ko na natikman na dinuguan, Ilocano, pero meron yan vegetable version, upo (bottle gourd) sarap.
I beg to disagree. Pampanga’s version of dinuguan is waaayyy more tasty😁
We each have our opinions to taste but my favorite Dinuguan was from Cagayan De Oro. Tasted Ilocos, and almost every other city’s dinuguan but that was definitely my favorite.
Yes, the ilocano dinuguan with suka is the best.

I‘m also using it to make dinuguan here in Germany

we also have a blood BBQ here in the Philippines, its called Betamax or grilled blood. its coagulated chicken blood.

I like how open minded ur friends are to try different cuisine esp our Pinoy food.

Nakakaenjoy panuodin eh ...pag luto mu pa sila ng pag kaen pinoy idol.....
My kids didn't grow up in the Philippines but they all love dinuguan.
My der Pilifino, Dinuguan is simply British Blood Sausage in deconstructed/liquid/stewed form! There are also other blood stews around the world
Blood sasauge is not blood stew i mean it can have similar ingredient but yeah its not the same
Born and raised in the Philippines and of course I eat Dinuguan once in a while but now that I’ve seen the video, it makes me want to try it with Schiracha, I will order dinuguan tomorrow and hope I will not be disappointed,🤭👍
One of the best dishes I've ever eaten. I was told as a kid not to eat it as it's unhealthy/unclean by my parents so I never tried it right away. I know it can put some people off, but I remember eating this after an exhausting week in our Boy Scout jamboree (no other food was served) and man did it taste good. Still have a craving for it to this day.
I'm watching you guys and got hungry, mix it with rice and its satisfying.
The girl with blonde hair caught my attention! She was really digging it! 🧡
I love these girls. They are so brave to try new things
Chuck, teach them tagalog words like "masarap" 😊
Chuck, PUTO is d perfect partner of Dinuguan, they loved Puto also❤😅😂
❣️ FORBIDDEN FOODS ❣️
❣️ Spanish Cuisine: Morcilla or spanish black blood sausage. Filipino Cuisine: dinuguan, batchoy, chicken pinikpikan (chicken beaten to death, also called "killing me softly chicken"), balot or balut (boiled 18 days old fertilized duck eggs) & any kind of food WITH BLOOD IN IT, & strangled animals & EASTER EGGS. ❣️
❣️ Concerning the Gentiles who believe, we have written and decided that they should observe no such thing, except that they should keep themselves from "THINGS OFFERED TO IDOLS" (e.g. foods served at the feast/fiesta & EASTER EGGS), from "BLOOD" (any kind of food with blood in it), from "THINGS STRANGLED" (strangled animals), and from "SEXUAL IMMORALITY." > Acts21:25 ❣️

In fact there's a similar dish in province of North Sulawes called "Babi Pangi" & North Sumatera (indonesia) called "Saksang", which basically a black pork blood stew

I was scared of dinuguan when i was a kid even if I'm a full blooded Filipino, just because it's made out of blodd. But when i tried exploring more as i get older, it's really good! You are amazing sharing our cuisine to the world!

Nakita ko din sa wakas ang videos mo sa tiktok kitang unang nakita 👌👌👏👏👏
As filipinos respect animals, its in the culture that no animal left over shall be made. If you do a lechon, the blood can be used as dinuguan, the intestines, liver will be cooked as well. No left over.
Poland has a very simillar traditional stew, usualy it's duck blood or goose, sometimes rabbits/pork.
In France they have a similar dish hare ale royale or royal hare) is a classic dish of French cuisine. A whole hare is slowly braised in red wine and served with a sauce made from its blood, heart, liver, lungs.
There are many ways in cooking Dinuguan... You can use vinegar for souring, tamarind shoots or young fruits, mango shoots, grated unripened Mango o even alibangbang shoots and sinigwelas shoots...
European are eating blood also almost desame with the betamax in the street food in Philippines.British people had own version of blood process food that is the black pudding .
it you want to kick up a notch squeeze some calamansi(not lemon or lime) and add some roasted garlic(crushed) that would bring up another level of flavor
