Interesting characteristics for a gaming headphone. Great imaging is a must, but why reduce the treble when that is the most important frequency range for competitive gaming... Definitely seems like a fun headphone to try out regardless. I know you mentioned it having more precise imaging than anything under a few thousand dollars, but would you say it is much better than the esp95X in that regard?
As an HD6XX owner and former DT1990 owner looking for a good pair of gaming-focused headphones with good bassy music handling, the TYGR 300R's are definitely on my radar. Does anyone know how they would compare to the Phillips Fidelio X2HR's?
I‘d greatly advice you checking out the Sony MDR-Z1R. They are insane in every aspect, soundstage, imaging, resolution, sound quality, bass precision, sonic pressure,...
I add this to my "things You can't buy"-list since it's impossible to buy and get shipped to sweden without having to pay the double price for a bundle with a mic I won't ever use. Thanks for the review though :)
You can buy from Thomann for 1490 SEK (139€). They ship to Sweden, just change the country on their site and language, currency etc. will change. It's the same price as everywhere in Europe.
Great Video. I ordered a pair yesterday. Unfortunately, I received an email from Beyerdynamic this morning telling me that I'm now on backorder, minimum 2 weeks before shipped. I'm guessing this video had something to do with that. :)
Excellent review and great choice of headphones to review. The TYGR 300 plays extremely well on the schiit Magni 3+. I’ve tried the atom, heresy, liquid spark, and the topping dx3 pro. For some reason the 3+ gives a more spacious 3D effect. And makes everything smooth. That’s just my experience with it. I think it’s closer to the dt1990 then 80% if you’re only using $100.00 amps. My source is topping d50s. Thanks for the review.
I'd love to see something on the Audio Technica AUD ATHAD1000X or 2000x and for gaming. They seem to have faded into obscurity aside from Zeos giving them some attention a while back.
Audio Technica ATH-ADG1x is basically a 900x with a supercardiod condenser mic attached marketed at gamers. Discontinued since 2020 though. I own these, got em for 200 USD to replace my old ATH AD-700. Honestly under 400 USD they are the best headphones for FPS/Competitive gaming IMHO. At only 48 ohm, I power these with my Sennheiser GSX 1000 at 30 % volume. The imaging is incredible and the soundstage is perfect for competitive gaming, not too wide (Fidelios) and not stupidly small (HD600/6xx series). It's a tight soundstage, that presents sound super accurately up to 200-220 degree arc (huge 53mm driver baby) so perfect for gaming. I hate it when people recommend the bass heavy Fidelios X2R for gaming when the cues sound like they come from another continent (if you can pick em up and not drowned in all that bass) or when people shill the Sennheiser 600/6xx series as godlike for gaming when they present everything in front of you and CLOSE to you (yes the imaging is excellent, but determining the actual in-game distance between you and the audio cues is nigh impossible cuz the soundstage is MINUSCULE and intimate, a cue might be a block away but sounds like 10 meters away from you), plus need a powerful amp to power, cuz 150 to 300 ohms... So I got the Audio Technica ATH-ADG1x for as my open back headset for FPS, competitive gaming and discord in 2019 and am considering the Beyer MMX 300 Gen II as my closed back for single player fun gaming and music listening. Although these Beyer Tygr might be the best all-rounder open back casual gaming headphones now.

I play a lot more games than I do listen to music. Since I'm an FPS gamer and direction is important to me, which of these headsets would you recommend? Apparently, treble is the most important thing for hearing footsteps in games. This review suggests that these headsets might not be good for that?
@@x-techgaming Really? I don't think they sound flat at all. Not particularly bassy, but they have a nice punch IMO. And I'm just a sucker for imaging lol

I think I kind of managed to do that (and kind of the same FR) with the 1More Triple Heaphones thanks to Headfi. I also managed to put put Beyer like earpads to make them over ears.
One thing i dont yet understand about imaging and soundstage. I think my mmx300 gen2. have way more soundstage and way better imaging than the tygr 300r. how do you define it? for me the mmx300's sound is farther out, and i can pinpoint the location alot more easily. the tygr's on the other hand have more in your face sound(closer) and pretty narrow soundstage.
Tygr vs MMX 300 Gen 2. Are they exactly the same just one is closed back and the other closed back? Or does the sound signature, frequency response, imaging and soundstage change radically hinting at wholly different drivers between these 2?
Ok the TYGR's arrived from Germany! I've run them for a while - so what's my verdict?... the highs don't have the usual Beyer issues (so that's a good start) BUT the lows are big soft and flabby, the mids are moved into the upper mid range, so are wheezy and slightly recessed. Overall they don't match the HD280 Pro's in any sonic way. The HD280's have far more control, faster, far higher resolution even in the lows - which makes a massive difference - to 'twacks'. The TYGR's are soft and ill-defined - I'd put them in the $50 range. Ok they have a biggish sound due to the big flabby bass and open-backs, but reports here that they can take on the presence of speakers, is just not true. My DT1990 Pro's are incredible but do get very hard work to listen to quickly (due to the harsh highs, and overall slight confusion), so still my pick is the HPH MT5's or now I'll also add the HD280's as a 2nd choice - which are very similar to the MT5 sound signature (they both do 'thwacks' well), though I would say the MT5's have a slightly closer more enclosed sound and a faster studio-like flatness, the HD280 are similar just a bit more fruity - so less good for critical work than the MT5's, but both are remarkably similar - listenable and useful. The TYGR's are just too soft sounding and mid-thin for listening enjoyment or work - they are not bad but they are no where near as good as the HD280 Pro's or the HPH MT5's. Also the TYGR's are hard to drive (fine if you use an amp like me - even then you might be maxing it, but for laptop etc not recommended, the MT5 and the HD280 run sweet on anything). Even though sound fidelity is my chief concern I'll also mention the TYGR's headband, the clamping force is too weak - the headphones can literally slip off! Poor R&D here. Just a few words from users over an hour could have helped here - rushed design in order to be 'comfy' for gamers, they would still be comfy with the correct clamping force. In anycase the sound is too sloppy, bass loose and kinda distorting and overall not involving enough (surprising as they are marketed as a gamer headphone!). The more I buy headphones, and want to like them, even $500 headphones, then I compare them back to the MT5's - the more I realise the MT5'w are just in another universe. Truly the MT5's are the best headphone out there, they are the king. The detail and presence in all parts of the freq range, spectacularly in the lows - the clean forthright presence of fast lows is not beaten by any headphone, none. Ok, the MT5's are not perfect, but they are friggin' incredible headphones. Ridiculous they keep slipping under the radar, due to other brand-model names such as TYGR, or Pro. The MT5's are king of presence and fast detail, esp in the mid lows.
Maybe they're really good but you're used to using something that's god tier :) What I'm interested is the soundstage and imaging. How good are they on the tyrgs?
@@renegade129 ...the MT5's aren't god tier - and they are my recommendation. As to soundstage, in terms of width, the TYGR's sound as would be expected - very open, in fact to me too open - slightly vacuous, like it's not easy to place instruments - everything is just open and a bit thin. The upper mids particularly annoy me in this regard, very wispy. For a headphone I can listen to all day without ear fatigue and has the most precision in placement of instruments and separation of nearby tones, and the stereo width is also quite defined, the MT5's are my go to. For games I can't say, as I don't play games. In terms of open back - if that's what you really need, I'd say the TYGR's are 'flatter' than the Philips Fidelio X2HR's - which have an odd wavy freq response that I couldn't get along with, so the TYGR's are ok, but I really can't say I'd ever use my pair again. On my desk now, plugged into my laptop? - the MT5's. In my music studio awaiting? - my other pair of MT5's! I doubt you'd be disappointed with the TYGR's at least some of the harsh issues of the DT770's have been tamed - though I'd probably put the DT770 above the TYGR's - even in terms of more defined soundscape. The TYGR's do need some juice though, not the hardest 'phones to drive but no where as easy and sensitive as the MT5's.
super tempted to pull trigger on purchase after watching your review. But! that non-removable cable - that's a deal breaker. I had too many headphones with permanently attached cable thrown into recycle bin because the wire or the plug got messed up. this is 2020. no headphone manufacturer - especially the likes of BeyerDynamic - should produce any headphone with permanently attached cable.
I agree completely. However throwing away good heaphones when the cable breaks is a waste. It's not that hard to replace it (and there is no real risk when the cable is broken) and you can also DIY a cable plug. I just wish it wasn't needed.
If you can work a soldering iron you can repair a set of Beyerdynamics. IMO I would never throw a set of Beyers in the garbage. They've gone to really long lengths to try to make their headphones user serviceable and you can even buy replacement parts from them directly and do it yourself.
These were my first open headphones, never going to closed cans after experiencing imaging like these, ordered two more pairs for friends that also never experienced open headphones before. I am running my TYGRs with a THX Onyx USB C AMP, needed something that is compact at the same time with 32bit and DSD512 support they run fine without a AMP since they are 32ohms . But a AMP definitely further enhances the experience especially when you love to listen to 24/32bit .flac music. At the moment looking at the DT 900 Pro X want to pick them up, but wondering if the bass is improved a tad bit on those, the sub low bass is sufficient on the TYGRs, I am not a extreme basshead, but was looking for something a little bit more boosted in overal bass sub and mid bass. Anyone here tried the DT 900 Pro X coming from the TYGRs / DT 990s . The fact that it has a detachable cord is a big plus in my book!
I just checked the "north-america".beyerdyanmic.com website - they don't ship to Canada, U.S. only. Last I checked Canada is definitely North in North America.
Any chance you have found some pads to replace the stock? I have major issues with my ears hitting the drivers, it hurts after awhile. Unfortunately I have tried Dekoni Elite Velour pads and it makes these complete bass cannons.
1990's are your best choice if you have the money. Get a good amp and you wont need another pair of headphones ever. 660s and 58x do not have the soundstage as the others have which depending on the game, I've found to be extremely usefull to have more. These tygrs seem to be a cheaper 1990 so honestly if you want to save money get these.

Interesting that these things seem to have a similar dampening to the 177XGO. Good find brother! I might have to check these out as an open-back version.
Got a pair coming today, it was a toss up between these and the 880 and because they’ll be used mostly for gaming I went with the TYGR. Looking forward to hearing them!
how's the sound of tygr ? thinking of ordering them :)
@@vytautaskryzius2556 I absolutely love them. They’re so good. Comfort is amazing, the soundstage and imaging is spectacular, and they just sound so nice. They don’t have any sibilance and picking out footsteps is superb. They also sound awesome for music and movies. If music is going to be your main use I’d go for the 880 though
@@millenwagon after tons of reading, people do recommend these more than dt 770 / 880 , so i guess i should order these =D.I do hope they are good :S
@@vytautaskryzius2556 I honestly love mine. If you buy them from somewhere with a good returns policy then you could always send them back if you’re not happy.
@@millenwagon going to order them, hopefully i will be pleased heh :) by the way, how comfortable are these headphones ?
Hmm. Never heard of these. Should have compared them to the beyer MMX 300 mk2 gaming headphones as they tend to be quite popular
Alina RS I want the MMX 300’s but that darn cable with the volume knob box is a bit of a turnoff.
@@adam3402 You dont ever have to touch that. Just set the volume to max and forget about it being there 👍
I'm here still wondering how he made his intro? After effects animation with a paint video in the back?
Yep!
@@DMS3TV Cool! Looks great
Interesting characteristics for a gaming headphone.
Reddit says tygr 300r a re far better
Still shocked that you and Zeos both have the exact same view on a headphone (80% of the 1990).
How can I not try these now? :)
I‘d greatly advice you checking out the Sony MDR-Z1R. They are insane in every aspect, soundstage, imaging, resolution, sound quality, bass precision, sonic pressure,...
Great content as usual. Thanks for putting in the work, so we don’t have to!
I rate 5 stars for that vinyl of The Divine Feminine on your shelf
Thank you for the review!
I add this to my "things You can't buy"-list since it's impossible to buy and get shipped to sweden without having to pay the double price for a bundle with a mic I won't ever use. Thanks for the review though :)
Sell the mic for 70-90€
You can buy from Thomann for 1490 SEK (139€).
Great detailed review! you need to get back into reviewing more audio! keep it up.
Dope video!
Very interesting, great review
On the theme of gamer specific equipment, it'd be awesome if you did a review of the Sennheiser gsx 1000 and/or blasterx g6!!
What is the mic stand DMS is using for the review? That would clean up my desk so much lol.
Can you tell me what microphone 🎤 that is? Very nice sound
Great video. I would like too see your opinions on the new chifi iems like blon 05 and tin t2 plus. Stay safe
Prabin Paudel see crinacle . Has a good extensive list and rating system.
Bad Guy Good Audio Reviews might help you
Excellent review and great choice of headphones to review.
@@Frencho9 this is the most awesome and in depth comment I've ever received on TH-cam.
i bought some used for 47€, put on new earpads and they look like new. such a good investment
Hey DMS, great video! Do you remember how these compare to the T1 in terms of imaging and sound stage?
According to beyerdynamic the Tygr 300 is based on the DT990 so a comparison with those would have been nice as well. Still a good video though
Good vid, keep up the good work!
The fixed cable is so frustrating. Nearly bought a pair.
Nice work buddy do similar work for spanish speakers ;)
Thought the thumbnail was a cast iron pan.
I just got them, and if you increase the volume a bit the bass sounds distorted and fuzzy....tried them in different devices same result
great video! keep up the good work! what headphone is suited for Jazz? i listen to a lot of Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, Diana Krall, John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Oscar Peterson, etc. What is ur recommendation? Thank u kindly!
How’s the bsss? Weak Explosions in FPSs or any action game are a downer. Talk about immersion breaking.
Got the tygr and the bass is good imo, easily good enough for games
Depends on what you're used to, for a gaming headset it doesn't have much bass.
Got excited upon seeing a new Beyer; instantaneously disappointed upon learning the un-detachable cable.
Shame. I actually find the gaming colour scheme sexy.
I'll have to stick with my DT1990 pro for gaming then.
Thanks for the detailed review.
Hi there, DMS🙋🏻♂️! Would you mind reviewing the Neumann NDH 20 in the near future? Thanks a lot for your dedicated work, sir.
Any chance of getting a review on AKG’s K712 pro? Thanks for the content!

and k712?
How do these compete with the T1 when it comes to imaging and soundstage?
It would be cool if you could take a look or recommend iems for similar audience to this video. I see this is majority headphone reviews and that might be your preference, but I live and a very hot climate and think I would suffer less if I could find a pair of iems and image well enough for gaming. (I've been recommended Meze Rai Solos a lot)
I play a lot more games than I do listen to music. Since I'm an FPS gamer and direction is important to me, which of these headsets would you recommend?
Apparently, treble is the most important thing for hearing footsteps in games. This review suggests that these headsets might not be good for that?
300 R owners - What do you think of them(for FPS gaming)?
Let's just say the first time I played TF2 with these I ducked when I heard a missile fly over my head lol
@@captainbozo01 Ha. I thought they had nice imaging, but otherwise they sound so dry and flat like most every other DT :(
@@x-techgaming Really? I don't think they sound flat at all. Not particularly bassy, but they have a nice punch IMO. And I'm just a sucker for imaging lol
@@captainbozo01 I like HD660 and Sundara a lot more, but of course much more expensive. Never liked DT sound, except the 880. AD700x/900x would be a good alternative, as well. There are some excellent IEMs, as well, such as fiio FD5, KZ ZAX and Shuoer Tape/Tape Pro that kick the ass of most budget headphones.
I learned a lot from your reviews. Thank you so much! Would you recommend these or something similar sim racing? I believe I should be using open back type for a good engine, tires , cars alongside, etc. sound stage. I can't always use my prefered 5.1 dts speakers.
I am just before pulling the trigger on a set of TYGR 300 rs.
@@juliansimmons7700 thanks for the response
super tempted to pull trigger on purchase after watching your review. But! that non-removable cable - that's a deal breaker.
They've gone to really long lengths to try to make their headphones user serviceable and you can even buy replacement parts from them directly and do it yourself.
did no one point out how similar they look to hyperx cloud now know as alpha?
Hey did u end up getting the 900 pro x? And if so how do they compare to the tygr?
I just checked the "north-america".beyerdyanmic.com website - they don't ship to Canada, U.S. only. Last I checked Canada is definitely North in North America.
I have a dt 880 600 ohm that I don't use much because of the too much bright sound. This seems interesting.
How can u get those headphones if the website doesn`t have your country?
Any chance you have found some pads to replace the stock? I have major issues with my ears hitting the drivers, it hurts after awhile. Unfortunately I have tried Dekoni Elite Velour pads and it makes these complete bass cannons.
For gaming, what would be the order between the hd 660s, tygr 300 R, DT 1990 pro and hd 58x?
Why not go for 80ohm dt770 those tend to be very nice and actually affordable (closed back )
1990's are your best choice if you have the money. Get a good amp and you wont need another pair of headphones ever. 660s and 58x do not have the soundstage as the others have which depending on the game, I've found to be extremely usefull to have more. These tygrs seem to be a cheaper 1990 so honestly if you want to save money get these.
1990s are little better but they are also weigh a lot more and get uncomfortable after an hour or two.
How does it compare to DT 990 pro?
If It would be a closed-back with isolation, I'd be interested....
Closed back with that kind of sound stage doesnt exist in this price range unfortunately
DT 177X GO
And not long after I went and bought a full phat DT 1990 pro. Damn.
Thanks for the review, take care...
would this be a decent headphone for watching movies and television at night with some music here and there ? i'm not interested in a 5.1 or 7.1 simulated headphone . thanks , jeff
