I just want to point out that just because Jimbei's slaps hurt Luffy does not mean that he cares about him. By that logic, if Luffy is sleeping and someone not on his crew hit him to try to wake him because they were annoyed with him, they would apparently care about Luffy in their heart.

I believe Oda confirmed that that's a thing when somebody asked him how Nami can hurt Luffy without haki.
