    That sucks! I appreciate you sharing this issue. Mine has to sit outside from time to time so it's good to know what I may have to deal with.

      My advice at this point is to get an appraisal on your car before something happens.. take tons of pictures and document each season

    I have had my 2001 C5 for over 20 years and this is a constant fear I have. Mine is insured for $10,000 over book, but who knows if they would honor that? Mine has never spent a night outside, but with the cost of paint and body work through the roof, someone walking by with a key could total a C5 in a a minute with just cosmetic damage.
    I see people paying $7,000 to $12,000 for a quality repaint on a C5. I remember having a full-custom high-end paint job done on one of my C3's back in 1972 for $1,000! Then again, I ordered my 1972 C3 with all the factory options available and they only came to about $1,000 - today you can dump more than the entire cost of my C5 new into just C8 "options"... but there is no inflation!

    What did you use for touch up paint? It’s terrible. Looks like you used the wrong color touch up paint. Plenty of those chips look like stone chips to me. Those chips could be repaired by the right person knowing what they are doing to where you could barely tell anything happened. Those chips I have seen the same on my C5 Corvette cause by small rocks being kicked up by people driving on the road in front of you. The same small rocks that chip your windshield at times. Hard for me to believe those chips are from hail. I have seen plenty of hail damage over the years and none involved chipping the paint on metal cars. Hail cause dings. Little dents. You are lucky your car is fiberglass. You can’t dent fiberglass. Hail just bounces right off. The most you can do is maybe crack the paint. Looks like everyday wear and tear on your almost 200k mile C5 Corvette. Insurance isn’t going to pay to give your car a completely new paint job. Do yourself a favor check You Tube for how to fix chips and small scratches on your car. Check out Sweet Project Cars on You Tube and watch the procedure they show for fixing chips. Also get yourself some Duplicolor Touchup Paint for your car in a rattle can. I believe your car paint color is “Torch Red”. Use that instead for touchup it matches well. You just shake up the can and spray a little bit out of the can into the cap or small clean cat food can or something similar and use that paint for touch up and let it dry and repeat the process. Go back and do it again and again until you build up the paint just a little above the surrounding surface. Let it dry well for a couple of hours. Then take a sheet of 1500-2000 wet/dry sandpaper with a flat solid rubber squeegee behind the sandpaper, wet it continually in a small container or bucket of water and lightly wet sand the repaired damage until the surface is all the same with the surrounding surface. Take some Mequires Ultra Buffing Compound on a rag or buffer and buff the area out. You will be amazed of the results. Just doing a simple touch up doesn’t cut it and many times the repair looks even worse like your touchup repairs look right now.

      Yeah I have the spray duplicolor. It matches perfect, did my door handles and mirrors. The dark stuff is also duplicolor... but it’s the brush on in torch red.
      People can not believe that the items I was pointing out are hail.. but they are brand new, and weren’t there before... The hail cracked the clear coat in several areas too.. the way it did that was a target penetration point. I wasn’t expecting a full repaint.. but saying a car is old and that is considered normal wear is a little nutty when the car wasn’t like that before..

      @@thedriverscorner You mentioned that you have agreed value insurance I read. Agreed Value insurance is usually only offered with a Collector Car Insurance Company Policy. I never heard of a regular car insurance company having agreed value policy’s. Their Policy’s are always according to book value. You pretty much void your comp coverage being Collector Car Insurance requires your car to be stored in a enclosed garaged when not in use. You have been storing this car outside and you admit it in your video. Without it being stored outside it wouldn’t of been affected by hail damage. For hail damage to do the kind of damage you claim it did to your car I am surprised none of the other cars had any damage I believe you mentioned. I have heard of hail breaking car glass it being so bad at times.

  • @marcanthony6038
    @marcanthony6038 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is good that you have video evidence of the event. That hail was pretty extreme, and surely did damage to your vehicle. I think the sheet molded composite panels chip easier. I've never had a vehicle that chipped so easily. I still love the car though.
    Your insurance provider can't ignore the video of the hail hitting your car. You mIght have to push them a bit. Most insurance companies will total the car around 70% of what they value the car at. With an older sports car, its usually less than you will pay for another one. State Farm uses Kelly Blue Book so I can go on the website and use the calculator to get a very good idea of what they will give me if my car is totaled. They really bring the value down with higher miles. Sometimes a few minor issues will cause them to drop the category from very good condition to fair condition which can be a few thousand $$ in some cases.
    Make the insurance company look at it, and see what they say. They will total it if a full repaint is needed. Some insurance companies let you buy it back if its a total loss, you would
    pay what the highest bid was from an online auction. You have to tell them you want to do that if it went that route. Documentation is also important. I totaled a 1980 Turbo T/A after I put a big block in it with 450+ HP. I wasnt ready for the jump in HP and wrecked with only 280 miles on the new motor. The insurance company covered every penny of the engine after I produced the receipts. It was 1992 but some still do that for certain repairs. They will pro rate the mileage on the parts. I had to ask my insurance company those questions since I also do my own auto work, and I want to know what Im covered for if the worst happens. Best of luck to you with this issue. Keep us updated.

    A decent paint job would be at least $4,000. Even just painting the hood, roof, and hatch can cost $4,000 How much do you think the insurance company has valued your car as a whole? Cost vs. Value...

    I deal with insurance adjusters on a daily basis for home fire water and storm damage and auto claims. I also end up helping with family claims as well so I feel your frustration but I generally come out way ahead on the claims so if you need advise let me know! Your call was typical of how they try to deny the insureds claim. It can be a battle but I make it worth the fight!
