SUBTOTAL function in Excel

The SUBTOTAL function in Excel is a very useful and quick way of showing sums, averages etc for a specific range of cells.

I know the subtotal function ery well but today when I ran it, I do not get the lines at the left (1,2,3) that allow me to collapse and then expand the table as I see fit. Do you or anyone know how I can regain that functionality?

I'm using the subtotal feature of Excel 2010, once I collapse the information several of the row headers disappear and I want them to show. They are not included in the subtotaling. How can I do this so these columns show?
