Calculate Subtotals in Excel

Have you ever shopped online and mindlessly put items into your shopping cart? Then you go to check out and look at the Subtotal. Then you laugh. Then you close the window. That kind of sticker shock may happen once a while in our shopping lives and it come from the magic of the mathematical concept of addition. This magic is also available in Excel! In addition, you can conjure up sophisticated numbers across different categories with the Subtotal feature in Excel. HI great video really easy to follow. I want to use subtotals to tally up the occurrence of different values in column just like countif. Is the subtotal command the best commend to use for this action and if so how can you use it?

At 5:00, the second sub-total (Zone) is still broken down by the first (Region). What if you just wanted subtotals (3 total) of Zones marked 1,2 & 3 regardless of the region? Can you create that within the outline or do you need to copy and paste and the source data, sort by Zone and then subtotal?

I'm using the subtotal feature of Excel 2010, once I collapse the information several of the row headers disappear and I want them to show. They are not included in the subtotaling. How can I do this so these columns show?
