    I've had the burst HSS Strat for a few months and love it! The quality is top notch, both hardware and attention to detail. I grew up a shredder, so I prefer the 12" radius to other Fenders. I don't know how to describe the noiseless pickups. They don't sound exactly like a normal Strat, which was a bit disappointing at first. But, I couldn't stop playing it because I loved the sounds I was getting, especially position 4 and 5. So, I think it was my perception more so than the actual tone. Highly recommend!

    The Half-Blender is an awesome feature----had my American Professional get the 1/2 blend with the Gilmour pickup set and it really expanded the tonal palette of this guitar and just plays and sounds killer. I think you missed a trick here, guys: The push-pull on the Player Plus Stratocaster, so it appears to me, just activates combinations of pickups currently not available on a usual five-way switch Strat, whereas the push-pull on the Player Plus Telecaster has a totally different function - putting both the Tele's pickups in series rather than. parallel, which cranks up the gain ti almost Humbucker-like levels. It seems to me this makes the Telecaster Player Plus a much more versatile beast.

  • @kirkbolas4985
    @kirkbolas4985 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    In 2000 I bought a brand new, completely stock Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster. It had a figured Ash body, clear urethane finish, 2-point vibrato with the block saddled, a maple fingerboard with rolled edges and a 12” radius. I added locking tuners and a Duncan Lil’ 59 pickup in the bridge position and Texas Special pickups in the middle and neck positions. I had to sell it about 7 months ago to cover rent d/t Covid related unemployment. I figured it would cost me somewhere between 1.5 to two grand to replace it. Then Fender releases this guitar. That it’s MIM and Alder instead of Ash does not matter to me. These new Strat guitars are what I was looking for to replace my old, beloved workhorse, with an added feature. What looks like a Wide Range Humbucker can be split and it actually has a decent single coil sound. The only thing I would have done differently would have been to offer the Pau Ferro fingerboard with the Cosmic Green finish too. I’m a sucker for a cool green guitar (Seafoam Green or similar excepted).
    One question gentleman. The SSS version with the ability to engage the neck pickup independently of the 5-way switch…when it and the other two pickups are all engaged (and the middle pickup is the stock RPRW), is there any out of phase element to the resulting tone? The nuances are hard to detect on a smart phone’s native speakers.

    People always say the strat is super versatile. In my opinion, not really. It has a very distinct sound. It has 5 positions, that all sound like different styles of stratocaster. It's my goto for clean rhythm. This might sound strange but I think my Epiphone casino is more versatile. It's my goto for clean leads. It can do overdriven leads nicely, and has an incredibly powerful, chunky low end, with very nice clarity in the upper end, and it's tone is less distinguished. Strat always sounds like a strat, which, isn't a bad thing. Then my SG is love for overdriven leads, and that's pretty much it's zone... but damn does an SG sound amazing on leads on the neck pickup, tone knob at about 5, heavy overdrive. Anyway, between the 3 guitars I pretty much got everything covered. But I don't think any guitar, for me, is solid in every category. The strat doesn't do heavy overdrive well, the SG is a muddy hell with rhythm, and the Casino... Actually I change my mind, the Casino really doesn't have any glaring weaknesses, it's an amazing guitar. I love all three though.

      @@ronpipes1988 Exactly. You can see what Fender is doing by upping their game, which includes upping price points, across their entire range, including Squier. They've figured out there's no point in participating in a race to the bottom with the Glarrys of the world. Not only will somebody always beat you in the "ours is cheaper" game, but you'll sully your brand reputation in the process. As Mark Twain said, "Never wrestle a pig. You'll just get dirty and the pig enjoys it."

      They have been for years with the vintera series and the deluxe series. The player plus line is replacing the deluxe series (of which the Nashville telecaster was already a part of), so really this is basically a product line renaming with updated specs and finishes (like the standard to player series, classic to vintera series, American standard to American professional, etc.).

    • @joeykelly5642
      @joeykelly5642 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In a few years, welcome to $2000 American Strats and Teles. It’s bound to happen at this point.
      Once the used market cools down a bit, should still be able to find MIM Standards for $350. I’d rather pay that than the absurd premium they’re asking for nowadays

    • @ronpipes1988
      @ronpipes1988 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HaShemMetal I don't see any real updated specs though. The Deluxe Nashville Tele has/had noiseless pickups, 12 inch radius, modern C profile neck, locking tuners, contoured neck/heel. The only difference I see between my Nashville Tele that I bought for around $800 a couple of years ago and these newer ones is that the newer ones added the tummy contour (because that's important), added some special wiring mods with push pull pots (because we absolutely need to have more of those), removed the contoured neck/heel which actually did add some funcionality to the guitar, and upped the price point. The only 'Plus' that I see in the newer models is that you get to pay for a Player series guitar, 'Plus' pay some extra money. The push pull options aren't an upgrade, and IMO the noiseless pickups aren't either. Oh....they did add a couple of cool popsicle colors though.
      The Deluxe Roadhouse Strat was around $800 a couple of years ago before they were discontinued, and with the S1 switch they had a variety of tonal options available. So from what I can see, you're actually paying more for these Player Plus models and getting less guitar.
      All they've done is somewhat scaled down the specs that they had from the Deluxe model, called it a Plus model to an existing range, added a few features that the existing range didn't have which aren't really upgrades to the now discontinued Deluxe models, and charged more than the Deluxe models. And people eat this up like it's the greatest thing ever.
      At least there are now some popsicle colors and they still include that awesome gigbag.

    This is one more step toward closing the price gap between us and mim pricing ultimately merging the 2 into one seamless line…. I own 2 player teles and 1 us …..there is a reason they are 1/2 the price…

    The burnt candy apple red Strat has the best all-around sound, at least thru computer speakers, LOL. But the blue Telecaster has a great Country twang to it.

    The blue guitar looks so nice but it only comes in pau ferro
    I rather make a good partscaster for the 1000$ and put a roasted maple neck
    Going to wait till November to see if anything comes up

    Fender must have done a lot of marketing/forecasting models on these - there could very well be a number of buyers who will save some money and “downgrade “ to one of these, especially the Tele burst. Is the American made really worth 500.00 more? Not knocking them, will be interesting to see.

    SSS in Opal Spark would’ve been the perfect Modern Strat for me if only it had the curved heel neck joint. That heel joint is available on the similarly priced Deluxe Roadhouse Strat. I guess that had to cut out some features to avoid competing with their own Ultra line.

    What turns me off about fenders are the unbound fretboards. If im spending 1000$ or more i expect binding at least on the fretboard. I dont buy unbound guitars at all no matter what they cost.
