the fact that romance wasnt part of their relationship was why it was so special, I genuinely felt like I was one of the gang when I watched them.
Of all the companions and Doctors, the two of them were the ones who acted most like siblings then any other type of relationship. I would love to have seen a second season and the Christmas special with her as the active companion at the time, you know she would have dragged him into her family's Christmas dinner/celebration kicking and screaming figuratively and literally if necessary. 😎
Yeah, after Rose and then Martha, I was so relieved to see an older companion that wouldn't be a love interest!
The thing is, despite there never being a romantic interest, Donna x Doctor would've been one of the best ones as they genuinely have that chemistry. They have that true vibe that I never felt between Doctor and Rose.

Donna was one of the better companions because she could call the doctor on his BS. She also managed to keep him ethical and grounded. He went completely off the rails for a while without her.
She managed to do it without bringing it up all the time, that she was his conscience. While being funny too. Just wished for a second season with her or a longer one.

When Donna says to the Doctor "But I was going to travel with you forever..." It rips me apart. There is something about their mateship that seemed so much more precious than the Doctors other relationship.

To me it was always more precious because while the companions are always supposed to make the doctor better, for once the doctor makes Donna better in return, and not through some romance plot like a bunch of the other companions, so it’s much more painful that Donna and the doctor have a relationship that we don’t see often, just to have it taken away from both of them.

@@rkah6187 am i crazy for thinking that the chemistry between the doctor and river, especially during the matt smith era, felt really forced? like the more tender scenes between them during capaldi's run were great, but i always felt like their relationship was sort of shallow onscreen. it felt like a waste of River Song's character to me because she has so much potential

There's strong competition, but Donna is IMO the best companion in the new era. Self assured and confident, but capable of change and humility, sassy and funny but also sympathetic and kind. Really wish we got more time with her.

If I had a nickel for every time my favorite companion was one that broke the pervious stereotype of the era's companions, was used for comedic effect more often than not, and had a heartbreaking ending where their memory of the Doctor was erased, I would have two nickels. I think the fact that Catherine tate never watched doctor who until the Christmas episode, leads into the fact that her character never even saw what happened in the past 3 years, so when the doctor tells her about he Dale's and cybermen Donna never knew any of it, it kinda seems like either on purpose or coincidence lmao

Two people being bros is sometimes a million times better than a romantic relationship. Probably because media usually leads us towards romance so the once in a lifetime opposite sex friendship is a breath of fresh air.
I love the idea of Rose being with the metacrisis doctor, and he still has Donna’s sass. That would be a treat to watch.
IIRC, Donna's sass turned him into a bit of an ass. At least, from Jackie's point of view.
I personally think that Rose isn’t gonna be able to flirt her way into getting Handy to do what she wants since his Donna side would recognize her manipulation attempts…
plus if Handy remembers Rose killing his mum (Donna) in the alternate universe I doubt he’d want to be with her at all…

I never minded Clara becoming more and more like the Doctor throughout their run (it makes sense, the Doctor is definitely someone who rubs off on the people he travels with) but it was really done sooooo much better with the DoctorDonna arc, especially since they started out so different from one another, and there was never a romantic interest on either side

Watching this it is just so sad that they both found the best friend they needed, they got each other. The bit that brought this home was in ‘The Library’ at the end where The Doctor says he is fine when Donna ask how he is, and Donna immediately replies asking if ‘fine’ is really code for not fine as she was fine too. They both just got each other.

She went from the most annoying side character in New Who, to the most well written and likeable companions that the Doctor ever had in New Who.
Funny how different we are. I have never found her annoying. Even as early as 'The Runaway Bride', she proves to be a compassionate and caring person. Yes, she is abrasive and oftentimes quite rude on the surface but it all makes sense when you realise how she is treated by her family and so-called friends. They did have her own wedding reception without her, after all.
Of course, she has improved by leaps and bounds while travelling with the Doctor, and I see why you would have thought she was annoying at the beginning, but I really adored her from the start. Others must have, too, since Tate came back full time.
@@rkah6187 Agreed! I didn't know who Catherine Tate was when Runaway Bride was first shown (here in the US). I liked her character immediately... I mean if I knew her in real life, I'd roll my eyes and keep my distance... but I was drawn in. When she came back I was thrilled. She is my favorite still to this day... I'll watch S4 until the day I die... even the final episode... it's a great catharsis for me... going from the highest high to the lowest low.

I personally think that the Doctor and Donna’s basis of best friends/ride or dies would be a solid foundation for marriage…especially in their line of work…
a lot of the BigFinish audiobooks that have both David and Catherine acting out their characters (as opposed to one of them narrating the whole story) have a lot more chemistry than what was seen in the DW tv show (like Much Ado About Nothing level chemistry)…

I love the Doctor with Donna, because he saw past all the horrible things she said about herself thanks to her mum telling her these horrible things, he took no nonsense, he believed in her unconditionally & he was there for her in the way she needed & I love Donna with the Doctor because she loved him like a friend so much, that she was there for him in the way he needed, she held him to account & took no nonsense. They just were so amazing that it broke my heart to see them say goodbye.
