The problem with MLMs is that people sign up thinking they're going to make their living by selling the product, when actually, you make the money by recruiting and training other salespeople in your downline. It's a totally different skillset.
@@ASimoneau That's also what makes it a pyramid scheme. You're recruiting salespeople below you, who then recruit other salespeople below them, who then recruit other salespeople people below them, and so on. Why? Cause the commissions are earned as a percentage of both your immediate downline, and a percentage of each downline below that. So the goal ends up being to build a big downline to maximize commission. As for sales, very little retail and the sales likely 1) sales to maintain rank and/or 2) to load up on "garage certified" inventory cause that's what your upline wanted.

These are women who give women a bad name. No profit from MLMs over 4 years. Let’s go into debt to invest 10K that we don’t have for people to tell us how to better scam people out of their money. It amazes and saddens me how people can be so easily manipulated. The cult world of MLM found an easy target here. Someone who would rather give her blind faith to strangers than think for herself and for the betterment of her marriage/ family. Society is in a sad state. Full of broken moral compasses and selfish priorities.
She is "my way or the highway" versus his view of "us" 🤔. It is beyond marriage counselor, she will leave this guy depressed (if he is not already), homeless and a destitute. Run man, run while you still can.
MLM the first people who start them make all the money the rest don’t. 30 years ago my best friend sold thousands of dollars of ANWAY and made no money from it. Totally ripped him off😮
I’ve joined several MLMs over the years. Mainly for the discounts on products I wanted anyway. The only one I made decent money on was Tastefully Simple. And I actually made a LOT of money without any down line. However, I think these days the culture of the MLMs is really toxic.
I just feel bad for this couple, what a challenging situation to be in. I'm thinking there must be a social aspect to it too, maybe she wants to go with some of the folks she knows in the MLM and all that. How immensely unfortunate though. Good luck to them, I hope these two can figure it out.
I believe that if you want to do anything, START SMALL!!! Here is the thing about MLM (other than the recruiting aspect); they make the person assume they have sales skills. Do a trial run of selling something where you didn't buy that much product! The absolute worst way to start any business is with huge capital investments and debt. Assume the worst and start small. That way you FAIL SMALL!!!
Marry a smart woman. College educated. No debt. My wife is absolutely killin it with her career and no debt. We work as a team, but my life improved dramatically after marriage. This only in the instance of abuse or addiction should an ultimatum be given. In this case, joining an MLM is like getting addicted to a drug, if anyone is going to give an ultimatum, it should be him.
Had a college acquaintance that got into some MLM garbage. He invited me over for a "bbq with a free informative presentation that will change your life". I went to humor him and out of curiosity. I knew it was a bad deal, I just wanted to hear the spiel. And what a pile of garbage. No hard figures, no details on how the program worked, nothing you could analyze anyway. But plenty of "picture yourself a year from now, living the dream, vacation home, etc., or stuck in your dead end job if you don't act now" BS. It was well crafted to draw in the suckers, I'll give them that. My buddy lost a few thousand before he wised up. But to his credit he did wise up and stopped throwing good money after bad.
A man in such a situation might say: "Gee honey, that's a financially stupid idea, and I think you need to stop "networking" with other bored stay-at home-moms, and go out and get a _real_ job."
There is a deeper issue in their marriage that’s not just the MLM… the my way or the highway is coming from other marriage issues… so the advice of a marriage counselor is a good one… healthy marriages don’t have this mindset
My sister tried this got stuck eith a 4000$ vacuum cleaner and all she had to do was sell 10 of them in a certain time frame think she sold 5 plus hers she had to buy when the time frame was up
It's kinda amazing to see DR and the time explicitly criticizing MLMs. DR's circles likely intersect with that of folks in MLMs, and he's given the most half-hearted of criticisms in the past. Edit: I spoke way too soon. I guess its a stretch to say they'll ever call out MLMs for the pyramid schemes they are/end up being.
@@pep590the only difference between an mlm and a pyramid scheme is plausible deniability. MLMs can at least say they have a product/service to sell... but rarely do people doing MLMs actually sell that product outside their upline/downline. The name of the game in MLM is to continually build/replenish your downline (convert any customers to "team members")... hence, they're pyramid schemes.
Even min wage is multiples of what you're likely to make with most if not al MLMs. Cutco knives-a week of trg. I made nothing. Stores Online, 6 mos. of work for naught.
I never heard that either, thank goodness. But Dave said it was like 15 years ago and I've only been in it for 6 years. I bet I could ask around and see if anyone who has been in the company longer than that remembers anything about this. But yeah I never heard that and I do not have any connection to any leaders in Mary Kay who would recommend that. Our seminars with hotels and flights aren't even CLOSE to being $10,000, either. They put on a HUGE show for all of us and provide us with high-quality training and it's only a little over $200 for entry for 4 days. Hotel flights etc are all extra of course but you get a cheap flight, you split your hotel room, you can go to Mary Kay Seminar on a budget, probably like $1,000-1,500. I could not imagine going $10,000 into debt for training. Weekly meetings with directors are free to $5 a week. Calls with your director are free. Training videos are free. The local career conferences are $100 for a weekend plus one night in a hotel (that again you can split with people). There is no excuse for charging $10,000 for that stuff.
If the person who sent this in is who I think it is, the husband is in the right. The wife is an abuser, very controlling, and the husband has repeatedly filed for divorce but her friends/family kept guilting him into going back by using the fact she can't (won't) support herself. He's not allowed to leave the house except for work or taking their kids to water polo training/games. The marriage is dead, but she refuses to let it go. EDIT: It was who I thought it was. The wife is presently trying to suck up to the husband today. And just more info - they have been going to various marriage counsellors for a decade, so advising them to go to a marriage counsellor is funny. Their sons are also 17yrs old and going to college next year, and there is no/minimal college fund. The wife has admitted to being a narcissist and frequently cheated on her husband.
So sad that anyone would take this kind of abuse. Marry the wrong person and they will make your life hell. The top characteristics you want in a spouse are humility and emotional stability.
After my wife joined Mary Kay, I'm convinced that the majority of their money is made selling their "starter kits" to new Mary Kay ladies. $200 to start and after 6 months of watching her manager reap the benefits, my wife threw in the towel...
MLMs are predatory. All Dave has to do is look at the earning distribution for any of them. He may as well speak of "good" payday lenders. Except some of his friends are rich MLM predators...

She's been brainwashed and indoctrinated already. She'll leave him before giving up her MLM. She is in a cult.
This is awful. Those trainings are absolutely NOT worth it...she is CRAZY to do this to her finances!
MLM is a fancy way to say Pyramid scheme.
I wish Dave would stop tip toeing around MLMs. They are destructive and dysfunctional.
100% agree!
It’s like gambling
MLM the first people who start them make all the money the rest don’t. 30 years ago my best friend sold thousands of dollars of ANWAY and made no money from it. Totally ripped him off😮
I’ve joined several MLMs over the years. Mainly for the discounts on products I wanted anyway. The only one I made decent money on was Tastefully Simple. And I actually made a LOT of money without any down line. However, I think these days the culture of the MLMs is really toxic.
OMG he found a way to still make it the guy's fault! Seriously!?
Dr Baloney is a scumbag man hater, dude never holds women accountable. Guys is the biggest joke on the show.
THE HIGHWAY!
Run for the hills yesterday, file for divorce if necessary.
Marry a smart woman. College educated. No debt. My wife is absolutely killin it with her career and no debt. We work as a team, but my life improved dramatically after marriage. I was do inggreat before her, and now am at a point financially I could never imagine for myself. Went from great to unbelievable!
When a spouse gives ultimates you got more problems than money. If my wife gave me an ultimatum i would show her the door.
She’s clearly imagined a life without him and is perfectly fine with it
This only in the instance of abuse or addiction should an ultimatum be given. In this case, joining an MLM is like getting addicted to a drug, if anyone is going to give an ultimatum, it should be him.
Surprised the co host didn’t mention she’s seeing another man. Like every time a woman calls in complaining about her husband’s spending.
Grow a spine and leave her!
Any MLM should NEVER ask you to invest thousands! That is one you run from and find something else!
They should tell their partner that they can go back to school to itch whatever deep rooted issue is making them vulnerable to MLM
MLMs are BAD. The sellers are the clients. People buy a shitload of crap they can’t resell.
If Mary Kay was a real company, they'd just put their stuff in a store, make billions. The cosmetics industry is insanely profitable.
There is a deeper issue in their marriage that’s not just the MLM… the my way or the highway is coming from other marriage issues… so the advice of a marriage counselor is a good one… healthy marriages don’t have this mindset
My sister tried this got stuck eith a 4000$ vacuum cleaner and all she had to do was sell 10 of them in a certain time frame think she sold 5 plus hers she had to buy when the time frame was up
tell wifie to save up and pay for it
It's kinda amazing to see DR and the time explicitly criticizing MLMs.
DR's circles likely intersect with that of folks in MLMs, and he's given the most half-hearted of criticisms in the past.
Edit: I spoke way too soon. I guess its a stretch to say they'll ever call out MLMs for the pyramid schemes they are/end up being.
MLN's and pyramid schemes are two different things. You did speak too soon.
I’ve never heard a Mary Kay sales director say buy inventory on a credit card without your husband knowing…let alone saying it from a stage!
How very sad! What happened that he would let her control, abuse him? HE needs intensive therapy.
She already drank the Kool Aid. I think she's too far gone.
Yup, joining a MLM is no different than joining a cult. He needs to cut his losses and run.
Start your own business!! You’ll make more profit than joining an MLM
All Gratitude To God Almighty for His men Like Dave
What's the worst financial decision I can think of? This one, right here. Surely the fastest way to bankruptcy and divorce possible.
😂😂😂….Dave let her have it today!! ❤
After my wife joined Mary Kay, I'm convinced that the majority of their money is made selling their "starter kits" to new Mary Kay ladies. $200 to start and after 6 months of watching her manager reap the benefits, my wife threw in the towel...
Tell her to make 10K as an "influencer"!
I hate MLM lol. Dave won’t go against it bc he’s out here getting his speaker fees. 😬
Get in debt and be somebody!!!👍👍
Don’t.
MLMs are predatory. All Dave has to do is look at the earning distribution for any of them. He may as well speak of "good" payday lenders. Except some of his friends are rich MLM predators...
After watching this video, I’m kinda glad to be single… I just need to find a wife who can be good with money to
Haven't they seen the Chris and Shannon Watts story. This is a big NO!!
Haven’t watched the video yet, but I questioned what a MLM is and my girlfriend thinks it stands for Mini Lawn Mower. So we’ll see.
It is bad when Dave sits speechless and it takes him over 30 seconds to get his thoughts and words together.
MLM sure sounds good but like most straight commission sales jobs fewer than 10% ever make it work.
If she has already failed, she is part of the 90% of those who do not make it.
Cult like mentality….😅 DAVE THATS AMWAY!!!! Youre so good at debt yet wont denounce mlms on the whole. Mind boggling.
As someone who was sucked into it for years, you're 1000% right.
@@PickFreedomKCP ugh. Sorry it happened but happy for you now. Were you stalked at a store or did a friend get you in? Were you stuck at hours long pitches?! So many questions! There are 2 really good podcasts that cover mlms but also amyway, sounds like mlm but ok and the dream. Horror stories ive heard and read! Have you seen - on becoming a god in central florida? Check that series out!
Why doesn't Dave speak out against MLMs more like he does other obvious money scams? They are so predatory especially against women and stay at home moms
I love living in Utah. Unfortunately, these predatory companies have entrenched themselves in this state. They’re a real blight here, and I would love to see them go the way of the dinosaurs.
the only thing a MLM is good at is selling a dream that you can never achieve
“It’s my way or the highway.” Yep, that attitude will get you far in marriage. All the way to the divorce lawyer’s office, probably.
Seems like she’s planned for it already. She can still use child support $$$, and alimony to suck him dry.
I do not agree with divorcing over this.
People are ridiculous. If you say that because in the course of marriage this is nothing.
You, never get married, you love money way to much.
I've never heard the tern MLM but after a given time period with nothing to show for it I'd bail out.
My ex wanted me to join Lularoe when it was almost at its peak. I smelled the pyramid scheme from hundreds of miles away. He was in total denial that he had his friend try to convince me to join only for her to quit 8 months later admitting it was a pyramid scheme.
I keep getting e mail from MLM.. "We are unable to process your membership. Please update your payment method"
NEVER!
Run. Divorce.
And what about the strife after “the training”?
I find Ramsey and his crew and audience amusing, but I would never pay $10k for a "Platinum Seat" to spend (waste?) a weekend with them.
MLMs are a scam. Dave should decry them as fiercely as he decries credit cards, timeshares, and banks.
