Here are the words:
1) Remember how fast --- you ran that race.
You didn’t skip a beat --- you quickly increased the pace.
You traveled more ground --- in much less time,
You accelerated more --- each second to the finish line
Well, runner you know … (ALL) Speed is distance (REFRAIN)
Refrain:
Speed is distance over time.
Meters per second’s an example so fine.
Velocity’s more - cuz there’s DIRECTION implied.
It’s all about the way you move, now!
2) But when you slowed down --- and didn’t gain much ground,
Evr’y second you ran, you decelerated then,
But then you set your mind --- to win that race,
Accelerate the pace --- almost like you were being chased.
Well, runner you know … (ALL) Speed is distance (REFRAIN)
Refrain:
Speed is distance over time.
Meters per second’s an example so fine.
Velocity’s more - cuz there’s DIRECTION implied.
It’s all about the way you move, now!
INSTRUMENTAL
OOOOOHHHH! AH--- AH----- OOOOOOH OOOOH!
3) Remember how fast --- you ran that race.
You didn’t skip a beat --- you quickly increased the pace.
You traveled more ground --- in much less time,
You accelerated more --- each second to the finish line
Well, runner you know … (ALL) Speed is distance (REFRAIN, then final refrain)
Final refrain:
Speed is distance over time.
Meters per second’s an example so fine.
Velocity’s more - cuz there’s DIRECTION implied.
Speed is distance over time ….. Speed is distance over time.
My teacher made me come here and not disappointed
Thanks. Hopefully it was fun singing! Mr. E
Speed is distance over time

My teacher played this and ngl it’s good
Thank you! Mr. E. A big shout out to your teacher and your classmates! Mr. E
My junior high school teacher played this reptivetly every class and since then it would randomly play in my head. Now in my biomechanics course in college, I'm finding this song to be very helpful. Thank you so much for helping me in junior high and now college!!
Thanks so much for your comment. I am glad that the song has been helpful for you in both junior high and in college. Sometimes people forget that direction is part of velocity. I wish you the best in your continued studies! Mr. Edmonds
it has been 7 years and yet this still is stuck in my brain
That is great! You never know when this may help you with a question on a standardized test in th future.
for real! its been 8 years for me
We watched this in school today and since the teacher didn't have an account on youtube, I am saying this for the whole class and my teacher
The video was made 4 years ago, how has it been stuck in your guys' heads for 7/8 years 😭
Actually the song was made much earlier - around 2009. It had been deleted for a few years and reposted. That is why it was confusing about the "7 years ago". Thanks for your comment and a big shout out to you, your classmates, and your teacher! Mr. Edmonds
First time i saw this was around 5 years ago, thanks for awakening the memories.
Thanks for the comment! Glad you enjoyed it! Mr. Edmonds
This brings me back to 7th grade. It was actually during Covid when I did my 7th grade year online. It was stuck in my head for the rest of the day and I still sing it a lot. Thank you for this wonderful song.
Thanks so much for your comments! It must have been so challenging during the Covid years. I had retired the year before from teaching. I am glad that the song was helpful for you in remembering some important concepts. I wish you the best in all of your studies! Mr. Edmonds
This is my favorite song. I literally listen to it all the time. Thank you king 👑
That's great! Thanks!
After all this time, I have listened to this masterpiece again
Thank you very much for the compliment! Wish you the best in all of your endeavors! Mr. Edmonds
@@dsecms omg thanks for the reply! This song has actually helped me remember the speed formula. I’m sure it helped other kids in my school considering we still remember this song from almost three years ago (our sixth grade science teacher played this)
Wonderful to hear and all the best to you and your 6th grade classmates! Mr. E
I showed this to my science kids in school today! They loved it and wanted me to comment! Thanks for showing this to me years ago and now letting me use it for classes!
Thank you so much for your comment! A big shout out to you for introducing the song to your classes. I love to hear from teachers who find any of my videos useful in their lesson plans. A big shout out to your students as well for being open to the song. I used to love it when my students wanted to sing and even lead the songs when I introduced them to my classes. I used to pass out maracas, tambourines, and sticks and they loved adding to the rhythm. I never had to remind them about the formula to calculate speed and know that velocity also incorporates direction. I wish you the best as you continue to explore science concepts with your students. You rock! Mr. Edmonds
Yeah, school introduced me to this. And I'm glad they did; I've never forgotten it since
Thanks for your comment! I am glad that it was helpful to you! Mr. Edmonds
My teacher loves this video and plays it over and over again! Hopefully she plays another one of your songs in another chapter we're doing!!
A big shout out to your teacher! Thanks for your comment and maybe another song will fit an upcoming lesson. I wish you, your teacher, and your classmates all the best! Mr. Edmonds
I'm retired now, but I often used your songs in my classes over many years. Many thanks, they helped a lot of students.
Thanks so much for your comment. I am glad that the songs helped your students remember the terms and corresponding associations. All the best to you in your retirement!
this song is fire🔥
Thank you! Mr. E
speed is distance over time 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I first heard this in 5th grade, I'm now a sophomore and haven't forgotten the chorus. This is super catchy, rad, and Mr. Edmonds, I don't know you but you seem like an awesome teacher and I hope you're doing well!
Thank you so much for your comment. I am now retired from teaching but am glad to have been able to create the song parodies to help students remember some important concepts in science. I wish you the best for your high school studies and beyond! Mr. Edmonds
my teacher playes this song and its stuck in my brain
BUT IM A FAN I LOVE IT SO MUCHH
Thank you so much for your comment! Mr. E
My teacher recommended we watch this and this is amazing
Thank you for your comment! Mr. E
This is always in my head and sticks in it during science. This is very helpful and a good song!
Thanks for your comment! I am glad it has been helpful for you! Mr. E
This helped me remember the answers to a hard question on my test thanks
You're welcome! I am glad that the song helped you! All the best! Mr. E

That is great, Henry! Hope it stays with you for all your science studies. Mr. E
I swear you songs are so catchy!🤣🤣🤣
Thank you! Mr. E
Lol I remember my 8th grade teacher made me watch this in repeat. I’m now a graduated college student. This definitely helped me remember that speed is distance over time. It was so catchy lol. Hope you’re doing good sir. It’s been years huh? Lol
Yes, doing well here and thank you very much! Mr. E
Did you graduate yet
Thank you sir, you helped me remember what speed was back when I was in junior high, I am now currently a junior in college so thank you boss 👍
You're welcome! Thanks so much for the comment!

When I’m stuck on a test I think of your songs
That's great! Glad they help!
My teacher played this and the whole class is now obsessed with it
This was always fun to sing with my own classes! Mr. Edmonds
Is that you Mr.Darden?
Sorry, no. It is Mr. Edmonds.
Mr. Edmonds, I love your work. I'm a big fan. I show my physics students your videos all the time and they love them, specifically the Work and Power and Energy songs. However, I have one gripe. In this video, you define slowing down as deceleration, which is a word that simply has no place in the physics vernacular. Speeding up and slowing down are both a change in velocity, which is the true definition of acceleration. This has prevented me from being able to show my students this video in good faith. Wishing you all the best,
Joshua Dalton
Thank you for your comment. I do understand your comment. I have understood acceleration as the rate of change of velocity per unit time and velocity involves direction. It doesn't always involve speeding up or slowing down because if an object is moving in a circular path at a constant speed, it is still accelerating because the direction of its velocity is changing. Also, in exercises my students have done, we have tended to use the term "negative acceleration" instead of deceleration which has been commonly understood as slowing down. Anyhow, thanks for bringing this to my attention. Doug Edmonds
This is art
Thank you! D. Edmonds
@@dsecmsyou should go back to making them I would love them!
Thank you!
I can't get this out of my head! Love your music!
I'm literally graduated and for some reason I couldn't stop thinking about this song at 3:30 AM
Wow! Thanks for sharing. All the best to in your science studies! Mr. Edmonds

You're welcome! I wish you success in your studies! Mr. Edmonds
Lord, my 7th grade science teacher played this on repeat for a month before we had our test, 3 years later and it’s forever engraved into my head
I'm glad you remember the song! Wish you the best! Mr. Edmonds
d
is is awesome !
Thank you! Mr. E
Bloody hell! I think... I think I finally understand the differences among them three! But I also think I need more explanation on velocity because the 'more' part is not clear as to more of what.
The more is that in the concept of "velocity", direction is always part. To explain it very simply, it is a vector quantity. Like a pilot may say we are flying at 540 miles per hour due east. The speed is 540 miles per hour and the velocity includes the speed (540 miles per hour) and the direction (traveling due east). It gets more complicated with other forces.
@@dsecms Ah. The 'more' is actually direction/s added to "speed".
Scalar = magnitude, quantity, size. But zero direction.
Vector = scalar + direction.
Speed is actually how much distance an object moves in time.
Velocity is actually speed + time. A straight line from point 1 to point 2. Always shorter distance than speed.
Acceleration refers to 'change' of speed or direction or both. There is no such thing as "deceleration", "slow down", nor "stop" in context of physics.
Slowing down and stopping is also considered acceleration, if an object is in motion OR stationary changes speed.
By "the other forces" I am guessing something such as weight vs mass. Weight is vector as an object has a number in the direction of gravity. Weight is scalar as an object's "stuff" (molecules) will never change no matter the altitude or whether it is in a vacuum or otherwise.
Oh wow! I am not clever, really. I have been watching TH-cam and trying AGAIN to understand what those three terminologies are. I have been trying to understand them since least year!
This time, I ticked "this year" in TH-cam search option because I thought there would be new people coming up with new and different explanations. And, my thought is correct!
This song helped me ace my test
Fantastic! I wish you the best in your science studies! Mr. Edmonds
This is the student's teacher. We love your songs and find them very educational!!
Any new songs coming out?
Thanks for your amazing work!!!!! @@dsecms
Thank you very much for the comment! I was very active in making the videos while I was teaching because I could sense which concepts my students had the toughest time remembering. Since I am now retired I have been doing other types of work and haven't been concentrating on creating new videos. I am keeping it in mind, though. I wish you and your students all the best!!! Mr. D. Edmonds
@@dsecms hi im another student we watch your videos all the time they help a lot thank you so much, new sub
Thank you!
teacher showed this to us in middle school. proud to say I graduate next year and I still know words
That's fantastic! I hope that it stays with you for all your years of study! Mr. E
This song helped me so much in 8th grade science and I’m such a big fan

Thank you.
My teacher plays this song all the time
A big shout out to your teacher and classmates and you. Mr. E
Hello Mr. E! I am a small TH-camr who likes to animate things using Lego bricks and I was wondering if I could re-create your song in Lego with Things going on in the background that demonstrate how speed is distance overtime?
That is fine. Please reply with a link to your version so I can see it. I am glad you are excited to do the song. Mr Edmonds
That’s great! Thank you! I just posted a still of what it may look like on a community post on my channel.
Thank you!
i remember listening to this on 6th grade
Great!
@@dsecms i came back because i watched remember the titans and it sounded familiar
my teacher played it yesterday and now its stuck in everyones head

My teacher made me watch this and im not dissapointed
Great! I wish you the best and a big shout out to your teacher. Mr. Edmonds
Thanks
7th grade science teacher made me come here after it getting stuck in my head
Was the original vid deleted?
Yes, it was.
My teacher plays this everyday in class and the whole class hates it except me cause I know the actual song
A big shout out to your teacher. I am also glad that you liked it because of the melody. Your fellow classmates may feel good if they get a question on a future science standardized test about how speed is calculated and they remember, "speed is distance over time". Thanks for your comment. Mr. Edmonds
@@dsecms You’re welcome! There’s a few other reasons I like the song including how it helped me with the test.
Wish you were my teacher
Thank you. I always enjoyed leading students in song who liked having fun while learning. Mr. Edmonds
My teacher played this not gonna lie I was gamming
At least you admit that. Just remember that speed = distance divided by time and that acceleration is the change in speed over time (speeding up is positive acceleration, slowing down is negative acceleration or deceleration). Mr. E
My girlfriend loves this song ...... She keeps singing it and now it's stuck in my head 😂😅
That's cool!
I think the only reason why we know this exist because of our teachers
Your teacher and classmates and you deserve a big shout out! I wish you the best in your studies.

Reminiscing over 8th grade science class
Hope you had a great experience in 8th grade science! Wishing you the best! Mr. Edmonds
my teacher made me watch this i-
Is that you the the video or is it somebody else
It is me in the video. My videos cover a period over 10 years. This song was in the earlier years.
who else came here bc of mr lees from kms?

Thank you! Mr. E
It’s been years since my 8th grade science teacher played this in class. I’m currently in my first year of graduate school studying literature. I have this memorized. I can’t hear the actual song normally anymore. I might have lost most of my scientific knowledge in the pursuit of literature but I’ll always know this 🫡
Thank you for your comment. It made my day! I know what you mean about having the words seemingly "cemented" in your head. In 1964, my 7th grade teacher taught the prepositions, in alphabetical order, to our class to the tune of "My Country Tis' of Thee". I can recite them in alphabetical order just as I learned them 60 years ago. I wish you the best as you continue your graduate school studies in literature. Mr. Edmonds
who from rhs?
Lol rms 6th grade be mind numbing
Me and my friends listen to this all the time and it gets better everytime!
Thanks for your comment! That is great! I am sure that you will never forget it. Sometimes having this locked in your head will help you on a future standardized test for science and that is when it will really come in handy Al the best to you and your friends! Mr. Edmonds
👌 my teacher picked one great video
Awesome! Thank you! Mr. E A big shout out to your teacher, you, and your classmates!
