You do such a great job, I find myself telling several people a week how to find your channel and what they will learn if they do. I've learned many new skills, herbalism, infusing oils, identifying wild medicinal plants, crocheting, dehydrating, etc. just this past year. Thank you for all that you do for us, you may have a few critical types, but know you have way more appreciative followers who are paying attn and doing the things! God bless!

Heidi, I am thankful on this topic! I was wondering how the Lilac tea would be. Hey can you do more on the Lilac tinctures without glycerin just the alcohol and what Lilac is good for. Heidi good thinking on Patrick part with Misfits. I still have not tried Misfits yet; but when I do I will use your link as I used your link for Dr. Jacobs soap and it is going to be on it way. Thanks for the video, I appreciate a lot your information. I do not mind at all the typos, they are not even that bad. Can't wait for more videos. Do you grow mushrooms in your humid climate? I wish mine were more humid to grow them easily. I have heard that they are great for the whole garden environment and very nutritious as well, not to mention they are also quite tasty.
I love watching your videos Heidi. They are so very informative. I am over here in Yakima so don’t have the problems with slugs like you do but we have had a lot of cool weather so my garden is really slow. I don’t even have any edible greens as of yet. I know you used to make really cool patchwork skirts.. Are you going to be making anymore of them? Thanks and have a blessed week!
I grew up in Wenatchee so am familiar with the kind of climate you have. I am still making the skirts but only on a custom order basis and currently have a list going
Would you put my name on the list and would you like me to pay you now or do I pay when you have one available? Yes Wenatchee would have the same weather. I grew up on the coast (Grayland/Westport) so I am familiar with your weather as well. LOL.
It would be best if you sent me an email to raincountryhomestead@gmail.com. From there I can send you the style and price list. Then you can let me know what style you want and list of the colors you would like me to use in it. Forks, is the wettest of all the areas around us. We get as much as 3 times the rain Seattle and other surrounding areas get
I love your this and that videos...then again I love every video of yours I have watched. The only downside is that you are so full of good ideas my "want to do" list is getting out of control, lol. Thank you for all you do!
Good morning Heidi!🌻 This is just me but I wonder if those critical people have a significant other. I Could Not Live with a person like that!🙄🤦 Thank you for another This-n-That! Love & blessings! 💜🤗
I have wondered about some of them myself. One of the worst I had to deal with attacked my viciously through email. She used to follow and send nice emails and comments until one day she just blew up for no real reason. It was so bizarre. Then fell back on her clearly useless psychology degree telling me all my "problems" and she was so far off based and cruel it was unreal. I came to the conclusion she is a lonely, sad person who realized her degree she poured much money into was not doing anything for her. She had went so far to even tell me I was not intelligent enough to attend college but she had no idea that I did actually go to college and was even accepted in my Freshmen year into an advanced psychology class for only Juniors and Seniors. I did not bother telling her that, just basically wished her good riddance
@Melissa Peltier It really gets me when it is someone who was nice for about a year or so then suddenly turns on me so viciously when I had not said or done anything to them. I got the feeling they are mentally unstable and needed to look in the mirror the next time they feel the need to psychoanalyze someone
@@RainCountryHomestead I know we're called to love them too but I have a really difficult time with people like that. I either want to cry (and have) or just knock them flat on their bUtT (I haven't)! She definitely sounds unstable Heidi.💜🤗
Always love the videos..and just talking about Lilacs, I can smell the wonderful fragrance....I will have to try tea...do they dehydrate well and keep their flavor or fragrance?...purple a d it's variations is one of my favorite colors.....thanks again Heidi
I got my first Misfit box a week ago, yesterday (that was a Sunday). It was a day late, but I understand that. However, the box was damaged, pretty badly....to the point it was broken in a few places. (Looked like a couple of FedEx employees played Hacky Sack with it! *LOL* ) The majority of the produce was fine, though. Something had gotten most of it wet...wasn't the freezer bags, they were still intact. The celery, romaine lettuce, and one onion was completely ruined, though. I took pictures, and contacted customer "success", as they call it. They were pretty prompt, right at the 48-hour mark as they promise. They credited half the cost of my box. So, I'll give them another chance. In the meantime, I'll be checking out some of the other options, just in case. I was excited about the organic pears! They're really hard to find! They were all okay, and we're still enjoying them. :) Thank you, Heidi, for sharing with us! If I hadn't seen your "unboxing", I wouldn't have had the faith, or courage, to try them out. :)
Glad they made it right with you! Yes, the pears are great, until I finally get a pear tree of our own, it is nice to finally be able to get some organic pears
My experience was very close to yours - box busted, wet produce, and I did let Misfits know and had no adjustment. As I began to try the undamaged fruits and vegetables I was really disappointed. The greens I ordered were well past their prime, the cilantro was wilted and mushy, one mango was squashed the other was sour, the melon was hard, tasted green and had a large white core running through it. I will be canceling. I would rather eat fresh tasty grocery store produce than pay for inedible organic. I have never wasted so much produce at one time and it really made me sad.
I so much enjoy your channel! The best thing I have learned is how to ferment foods without all that salt. The question now, is, what to do with all the cases of salty ferments that i was trying to make myself eat! I'm sure the goats would love it... but I'm really here to comment on misfitsmarket. My first orfer was set up to arrive on a Monday. It shipped out Thursday or Friday and was in transit 3-4 days. Too long!! I changed my delivery day to Thursday. Now it ships out Monday and both days i got it Wed morning. Much fresher! I think it's a good idea to avoid shopping over the weekend, if possible. Thanks for all the great tips! You're my fave 😊
@@RainCountryHomestead mine just cant handle the warmer temperatures in the camper. It turns rancid before I can use it and when I used it to infuse my plantain last year it did not turn out well. I have easy access to coconut oil at the Amish community up the road so that's where I go now.
Great info dear friend, thanks for sharing, never notice your typos, no one is perfect, if the majority of us know what you mean and don’t pay it any attention, those few who want to call out something are obviously bored in life and need a new one 😂 or in others words “don’t matter” , keep up the great job you always do, blessings
I’m wondering if the taste of the lilac tea was as good as the smell of them. They are so sweet smelling. I am going to be getting a lilac propagation from my sister this year. She got it from mom who got it from her grandmother. That is so special that I will have a part of the plant that my great grandma had growing in her yard.
WOW! I love misfits and I hope that lady tried them again. I did get a few items one time I wasnt thrilled with but it was my fault since I forgot to do my order so they sent things I dont normally use. Also to everyone, remember it is called MISFITS for a reason. This food is non perfect for stores so it isnt always going to be beautiful! I got watermelon and cantelope twice now and they are fantastic, so this time I am trying honeydew but haven't cut it yet. As for people picking our your mistakes, sometimes it makes others feel better to tell us our own minor mistakes. I never noticed your typos, so they must have been very minor and I would just read on and not mention it anyhow if I did see them. I think alot of people have too much time on their hands as well. Thanks for another great video!
Thanks for another great video. Don’t let the spelling Nazis get you down, they need to read up on etiquette. I stink at spelling so I probably won’t ever notice. Lol. Looking forward to your upcoming lilac video. And thanks for pointing out the herb research video. I hadn’t found that one yet so will be looking to glean great tips from that one.
I dont care how old they are, they're always our babies!! My 20+ children laugh because I still call them my babies. Literal brains need to find a little color. Thanks for the lilac info. I wonder if tea will put me in an allergy attack. I'm at my worst in the spring with lilacs. I hate them! Maybe worth a try. 💚🌞 to you, Grandmama
I grow carrots more for the greens than the carrots for our greens mix. The carrots never get large enough to worry about. I get carrots from the store and save.
I have bushes and bushes of lilac blooms and I need to know if you dry them, freeze them or what to preserve them for what you plan to do with them. I am afraid that if I wait till you put out a video on lilacs my blooms will be gone.
Yes, you can dry or freeze. Once I get to the point of having a lot to work with, I will likely do both and yes, do that now as it will be awhile before I even shoot the video let alone publish it. It may be a couple months or more
Hi,I've never noticed a typo but I can't spell😁, I never knew lilac was edible, your videos are so helpful shame I can't binge watch old ones coz I've already done it.💖
honestly...I think this is the first video I have EVER watched of you defending yourself SO much! :( It makes me quite angry that so many people are such jerks! You lay down your disclaimer on almost every single one of your videos that these are things that YOU do for YOU and YOUR family, yet the trolls just keep trollin'. I am so sorry that you feel you must do this... I am truly grateful for all of the information and knowledge you impart. I have tried a lot of things learned from you. Some worked, some didn't. Some were fantastic and some, not so much. So, from me to you, THANK YOU!
For example, I just got this rude comment a minute or two ago, this is common and it is also common I delete them as I just did. People have been real jerks lately: "WHY do u have to talk SO much CRRRAAAPPPPP"
@@RainCountryHomestead I am amazed at with how much grace you deal with those types...While I consider myself a Christian woman...I would NOT seem as such in these situations. LOL. Which is reason #1 why I do not even attempt to start a channel of my own. I enjoy arguements too much. :) I just truly hope that it doesn't get to a point where you just say "That's it, I quit" Because then I would be super sad.
Could I make a suggestion? I know it would be super helpful to me and probably many others if you added timestamps along with the corresponding topics, and add them to your description. The benefit of this is that you don't have to tell people what a this n that video is but instead tell them to check out the timestamps in the description and they can jump to whichever section they would like. You may even see people watching more because of this (vs people leaving the video). Time stamps are proven to help SEO as well. I know I greatly appreciate channels adding timestamps with the topics because sometimes I watch an entire video but want to go back and watch one specific thing and I only have to check the timestamp and click on it and boom--I go right back to it! I know this would be extra work but I'm hoping that you'll give it a try and just see how it goes. Thank you for all the great content you put out, Heidi!
I have thought about this but it is just another very time consuming step to something that already takes hours to do. My schedule is incredibly full with the many irons I have in the fire and I have been in an incredibly high state of stress just trying to keep up. If I have to take on extra steps that take even more of my precious time, then I should drop down to only 3 videos a week to edit instead of 5. Then I would lose a lot of views and possibly subscribers. I am always having to weigh out these types of choices with every small thing I add to video editing when I have a life outside of the channel that needs even more attention.
@@RainCountryHomestead I do understand. It's easy to add 'one more thing' to everything we do-- I'm guilty of wanting to do that, then realizing each 'one more thing' has added up till it's unmanageable! Some of the TH-cam experts do say that sometimes 3 great videos can equal 5 good videos. You could always drop to 3 videos for a few weeks in order to add in timestamps and see how it goes. It might alleviate some stress as well. Whatever you do, I always appreciate your content, and even if you had to drop to one video a week, I'd understand, and always watch whatever you put out! (Edit: just read that you've been getting nasty comments, which is so sad to hear, and also have added stress right now in your life. I know your loyal viewers would TOTALLY understand if you had to cut back on how many videos you put out! Prayers that the Lord will give you wisdom as to what to do ❤️)
Typos aren't a big issue. Usually people will read it the correct way regardless. It really only bothers sticklers for grammar. I know I've been making mistakes typing and printing out my dream journal entries as the large college ruled composition books I used to use are falling apart, stained, and water damaged. Now I'm putting them in color coded page protectors in my Staples 3 Inch Better Binder to hopefully prevent all those issues. Found the Gabriola font which is similar to my handwriting in some ways and different in other ways. Also the ink doesn't fade like the mechanical pencils I normally use in hand written journals. Anyway I tend to make sure to read what I've written and fix mistakes before I print. Sometimes I don't notice a mistake until after I printed.
If all I had to concern myself with in my video was the text alone, that would be easy but photo placement can often be tricky and that is another that I notice too late that is sometimes a bit off or if I make any changes in my "proof viewing" sometimes things that were properly placed to begin with get moved without me realizing it, again, until it is too late. Then there is editing out redundancies, pauses, or things I decide to cut to try to make the video shorter, music placement, volume, and fading, photo and text transitions, and much more. It is easy to miss something here and there when there are so many factors one is working on
P.S. My GrandKids for the last 5+ years are Pygmy Dairy Goats that are under 6"-8" at birth. I'm up over 25 GrandKids, but did get my 1st GrandBaby born without fins, feathers, fur or four legs on 1/1/20. Have learned so much from you. Thank you. I stopped using Star Anise almost twenty years ago; because while Star Anise is great, at that time, it sometimes contained highly poisonous Japanese Star Anise. Are we sure that that is no longer a concern? Goggle still brings up the same warning.
It is a matter of making sure you are getting Illicium Verum (AKA: Chinese Star Anise) from a company you would trust. I get mine from Frontier Co Op: amzn.to/3yBoZiv
I fry my potatoes in coconut oil and everyone raves over them. I fry them in a cast iron skillet which browns them nicely, seasoned lightly with salt and pepper to taste and sprinkle some dried oregano over them while frying.
Ooooh, going to have to try lilac tea! (Apparently the leaves make a good tea as well, but may need sweetened.) Supposed to be almost as good as pineappleweed (matricaria discoidea) for fever and stomach issues. I wish pineappleweed was offered as a seed. It's hard to find around here (ohio) because people nuke it with poison rather than brew it up... Bison is another good lean meat, and they tend to come from small farms (around here at least). My mother is not able to eat beef anymore (makes her sick to her stomach) but bison doesn't cause the same issues, for some odd reason. Ain't God good to give us so many blessings, undeserving as we are...
I actually sell pineappleweed seed on our etsy store along with many other herbs we grow. Some are currently sold out but there will be more going up in the next few months.
My greens on vegetables in every box were rotten. So beet greens were rotten but sometimes the beets were ok. Same with carrots and radishes. Maybe most of our problems may be because we live in the south. I say from experience of myself and 6 friends in Atlanta area, stay away if you live in Georgia. Also, take pictures of bad items to document when you contact them. They usually ask for that.
I have not tried ordering greens like lettuces, kale, and such but seems this is a common issue with those but not surprising considering what they are but yes, I do believe location plays a big part.
This video is from last year so I am not certain what you are talking about but if it is in reference to slugs, yes, I know salt works but one has to understand the great number of slugs that we get in a place that gets 120" of annual rain fall and now much salt one would have to go through daily just to keep up on them. Here is the video I did on slug and snail control: th-cam.com/video/3TJcliX7vFc/w-d-xo.html
My elderberry leaves are white some and red some do you know what it means or what should I spray them with something or do they have a disease and my pear tree leaves has red spot on them and no blooms this year
I have this recipe here that can be tailored. I made it mostly for a plant spray but if you just used catnip tea or a blend of that and other mints, it should work well. You could even add a a few drops of cedar and lemon essential oils to it: th-cam.com/video/6xDICEWqARg/w-d-xo.html
Do you mix the different mints for your teas? I’m growing a lot of different flavors but there is not enough of each kind to make individual teas. Thanks

I've learned many new skills, herbalism, infusing oils, identifying wild medicinal plants, crocheting, dehydrating, etc. just this past year.
I've got a goat in milk now, so will freeze some in ice trays for making goat milk soap here very soon!
Thank you for all that you do for us, you may have a few critical types, but know you have way more appreciative followers who are paying attn and doing the things!
God bless!
Thank you for this!
Love your information packed videos. Greatly appreciated 🌻👍
I absolutely appreciate all that you do! Thank you for all the wonderful information.
YOU DO AN AWESOME JOB! Gosh so much incredible information. You are terrific. I hope all realize that
I do not feel that way about myself much so thank you for that :)
Great video as always. Cannot believe the nit-picking of some people that go beyond!! I guess it makes them feel superior to point out your errors. Thanks for all the information that you share xx Cathi xx
Mrs Heidi You are AMAZING... No need to apologize for people being Ugly and Hateful. I hope I don't see any mean comments to you. PHENOMENAL video as Always and BTW love your eye makeup today. Everyone stay safe and God Bless you and your family from middle GA 🙏 Kendra. I guess I need to get some lilac this is the second video I've seen about it in 2 days
i want to thank you for making these video's and for the folk who criticise well i think maybe they can make a channel also and help teach us also.
Very timely, I have been looking at the lilac Bush thinking, what can I do with your flowers? .
Ps thank you for all your efforts.
I have many more ideas but I will have to wait until at least next year, hoping I get enough flowers to do all the things I want to do with them
Great video as always, and much grace given, you also have too many perfect people watching your videos.💃🏽🤣🤪
Which always makes me wonder, if they are so perfect, why do they watch? haha
I highly recommend lilac jelly. I used honey in it and it's amazing!
Maybe next year when I have enough flowers to work with but we do use much jellies and jams and I have a lot of fruit jams canned up from previous years
Love your videos. I am interested in the lilac
So happily waiting on the Lindon lime blossoms in my area!!! Check out this amazing tree if your in spring you may be able to enjoy a medicinal delicious tea.. I had No idea lilac was good for tea or edible!! One of my fav smells! Please do more on herbals! I try to go through your playlist when I've got time because your videos are awesome!
People like Heidi always say! do your own RESEARCH so you can be Educated as well. Thank you Heidi for all telling us this. Heidi! you are only human and so are we. Thank you my dear friend I so enjoy you .
Love your videos and have learned so much. Thank you so much!!
Storing food in greenhouse😂😂😂
Thanks for the video, I appreciate a lot your information. I do not mind at all the typos, they are not even that bad. Can't wait for more videos.
Do you grow mushrooms in your humid climate? I wish mine were more humid to grow them easily. I have heard that they are great for the whole garden environment and very nutritious as well, not to mention they are also quite tasty.
I do not intentionally grow mushrooms but we do get mushrooms that occasionally will pop up. Around here we can go pick chantelles out in the wild
Good morning Heidi!🌻
This is just me but I wonder if those critical people have a significant other. I Could Not Live with a person like that!🙄🤦
Thank you for another This-n-That!
Since this is my first year finally getting flowers, I have yet to try dehydrating them so I cannot say yet on that
I got my first Misfit box a week ago, yesterday (that was a Sunday). It was a day late, but I understand that.
However, the box was damaged, pretty badly....to the point it was broken in a few places. (Looked like a couple of FedEx employees played Hacky Sack with it! *LOL* )
The majority of the produce was fine, though.
Thank you, Heidi, for sharing with us!
@@audreyabbott7806 Just awful! :(
I like unrefined but I also by refined
Yep, they both have their uses
We’re on the same page my grandbabies range from 16 to 1 years old and there 9 total and I call them my grandbabies 😉💜
We only have the option for Thursday delivery here which is fine. It ships on Tuesday and gets here on Thursday morning
Dont be discouraged by the tedious critics we love your videos! I have phased out olive oil too.
I still use it but not for much anymore.
@@RainCountryHomestead mine just cant handle the warmer temperatures in the camper. It turns rancid before I can use it and when I used it to infuse my plantain last year it did not turn out well. I have easy access to coconut oil at the Amish community up the road so that's where I go now.
My grandbaby is 25! He will always be my "baby".
I was always taught to ignore incorrect pronunciations or spellings if you already know what someone means.
@@RainCountryHomestead exactly, ignore them maybe they will go away 🤞
I’m wondering if the taste of the lilac tea was as good as the smell of them. They are so sweet smelling. I am going to be getting a lilac propagation from my sister this year. She got it from mom who got it from her grandmother. That is so special that I will have a part of the plant that my great grandma had growing in her yard.
The flavor, while good, is not the same as the aroma. Eating the flowers raw is a tad bitter but not bad.
The cantaloupe we got was very good and my daughter in law got a watermelon on her first order and she said it was real good

We are all Misfits, but God sees what makes us Special in His Eyes.
🥰
I grow carrots more for the greens than the carrots for our greens mix. The carrots never get large enough to worry about. I get carrots from the store and save.
I have never, not once, succeeded in growing carrots. I don’t know why. I think I will give up because they are not that expensive.
It makes me quite angry that so many people are such jerks!
Thank you Tina. Sometimes it just piles on but I also like to clarify things in case more than one person misunderstood something I have said
For example, I just got this rude comment a minute or two ago, this is common and it is also common I delete them as I just did. People have been real jerks lately:
"WHY do u have to talk SO much CRRRAAAPPPPP"
@@RainCountryHomestead I am amazed at with how much grace you deal with those types...While I consider myself a Christian woman...I would NOT seem as such in these situations. LOL. Which is reason #1 why I do not even attempt to start a channel of my own. I enjoy arguements too much. :)
I just truly hope that it doesn't get to a point where you just say "That's it, I quit" Because then I would be super sad.
Thank you ever so kindly for your informational reply.
My grandbaby will be 21 in a few days but he’s still my grandbaby.

I tell my granddaughter all the time that she will always be my baby girl-just like her mamma is!
I fry my potatoes in coconut oil and everyone raves over them. I fry them in a cast iron skillet which browns them nicely, seasoned lightly with salt and pepper to taste and sprinkle some dried oregano over them while frying.
Yep, I do the same exact thing using my homemade seasoned salt.
Hi Heidi, I was wondering if you'd thought of any uses for rancid oils. How about in soaps?
Yes, you can make soap out of them if the smell is not too strong or if you think you can handle the smell.
i got those same meat sticks at Sam's club, they were delish!
Table salt will work it melts them. I was taught this from a little girl my Mamaw Shirks taught us to put salt on snails and slugs..
My elderberry leaves are white some and red some do you know what it means or what should I spray them with something or do they have a disease and my pear tree leaves has red spot on them and no blooms this year
I am not familiar with that so you may want to do some research. I have not seen that on my elderberries
I'm a this and that kind of girl!
Have you ever made your own bug repellent? whether its NM or VA mosquitos and other biting bugs love me :(.
Do you have a supplier for star anise that you recommend? I absolutely love licorice and would love to make an extract.
I usually get frontier co op but it is currently unavailable but just look for organic whole star anise: amzn.to/3EhXigF
Do you mix the different mints for your teas? I’m growing a lot of different flavors but there is not enough of each kind to make individual teas. Thanks
I have a few but use them in different ways. Here is the video I did on that: th-cam.com/video/KqYo0Izt6I4/w-d-xo.html
How do you dry mint to make tea? I dehydrated my mint and it has no taste.
Mostly on my electric dehydrator. You do not want to set the heat higher than 115°.
My dehydrator doesn't have a temperature gauge or dial.
Then please see this video I believe in a part of it I do talk about how to work around such things: th-cam.com/video/1SIYUAHAGPc/w-d-xo.html
I hang mine upside down and it dries fine with all the flavor.
@@liferoadministries @Gama Yeesah Hanging herbs is a great option for those who do not have high humidity. I discuss this in the dehydrating video I linked to in the previous comment
My lilacs are already done blooming. ☹️
I am hoping next year I get a lot more with all the things I have been wanting to do with lilacs. However, there are still those leaves. Very astringent, a bit bitter, but they do have medicinal properties
Ours are done also. I need to remember that they bloom in April. Our bush was loaded this year and I did not have the chance to preserve any of the flowers. Oh well. There is always next year.
Hi Heidi. I have a question ⁉️ Are elderberry leaves edible?
No, only the flowers and berries are edible but not any other part of the plant
HI, I found a product called Fresh Paper, I put a half sheet in my produce if I think its going to sit awhile before I get to it. I keeps the produce from spoiling for quite a while. Made from spices which leave no smell on the produce. Lovely invention by a young gal. Check it out.
I love "Miss Debbie's Green Bags" for extending my Fruits and Vegetables. They are costly, but each is reusable 8-10 times by washing or rinsing. I have had things go 2-3 weeks beyond normal and still be firm & taste fresh.
