Spar light with someone better again and again, after Spar either light or hard with same skill level. This cycling process boosted my skill and confidence.
I used to tell our younger students "everyone gets nervous, but the person who gets the least nervous has the best chance of winning". What does this mean in relation to helping someone getting into the ring???? People who think they will rock something and will not be nervous at all, are usually the ones most shocked and have the greatest decreased performance as they end up so nervous they cannot perform. They were not coming to terms with human nature and then get shut down by it. The person who knows they will be nervous, and is expecting it, and will not be shockingly overwhelmed when all of a sudden the nerves kick in. Visualization techniques help. Picture yourself weighing in, getting into the ring, the start of the fight - prepare your mind for the event and you will be the least nervous you are able to be, and perform the best you are able. That is the real contest. Have a great first fight. Many people talk the talk - you are being brave enough to Pony up and get into the ring - that takes a lot of courage! Gabriel's dad - Keith Varga
@@kvarga9164 Wow, thank you so much for the kind words of encouragement. Ive been training very hard, and actually utilizing that visualization technique which I picked up from one of Gabriels videos. Been studying this stuff religiously, im obsessed with performing and progressing to my greatest abilities. Thank you very much, you guys rock
Mr. Gabriel thanks for this video! I've started kickboxing some 8 months ago and yet i still hesitate during sparring even tho i learned a lot from my master and your videos, this lack of confidence makes me forget completely to use the things i learn. If i can overcome this i am sure my game will become 200% better so thanks for the tips. :)
This is EXACTLY what I'm troubleshooting right now! I learned the techniques really well, but now I gotta learn how to use them in sparring. These tips were absolutely amazing! Thanks a lot champ
I have like 4 month training and most guys there has more than 4 years of experience. Whenever I sparr with them, they go "teacher mode": they allow me to be creative, and of course they look for my week points to show me what are the things I need to work on. In my humble opinion, this is how it should be.
This is just what I needed Gabriel, because I feel like I am struggling a bit with sparring confidence, these tips were really useful for me because I will be having a sparring session tomorrow and I will let you know how it goes, keep up the great work!
My confidence is kind of bruised right now after I lost my IKF fight. Even though I didn't "need" the win, I felt that I did not put on my best work and made last minute decisions that did not help and I'm mad at myself. So confidence is still there, just a bit hurt right now. I'm human.
It happens... no need for feeling sorry... i remember my first karate tournament when i was a kid... i pass the firs competitor, then second and then i watch the fight of a guy i had to fought next.. i was 12 years old, and this guy looked like he is 20 ... big, strong, muscular.. i was still undeveloped skinny dude... i got my ass whooped... but he punched me in the groin and then elbow me and he was disqualified... so tehnically i won that fight but i no if it was for real he would kill me.... next match i lost, but what changed me is the fact that more the time passed and remebering that fight where i was literally bullied i stood my ground.... so fear disappeared.... no matter win or lose if you give your best that is all that mattered.... i was scared of that guy before the fight even if it was point karate tournament.... but i survived and moved one... never become profesional fighter but i learn some others martial arts, and i m still practicing today at 41.... so keep your chin high, there is nothing to be ashamed for .. most people run from fights and i honor everyone who decides to take any form of martial art because it needs discipline, heart and courage to do that...stay strong and move on
Having my first fight soon and gotta say composure is something I really struggle with. I resort to a left hook counter on most occasions but when that fails I just shell up and take damage, especially against someone who throws constantly. I am trying other forms of defense now, like clinching up and also focusing on circling out. Thanks Gabe for the tips.
I today had my first ever Tournament and my opponent was really aggressive and all my techniques didnt really fly because He was just pushing and pushing, could you maybe make a Guide on how to deal with that
Needed this video, sparring is actually my favorite thing to do but I have really bad anxiety, that combined with having to spar my coach has made me miss the last 2 weeks of sparring.

Is it possible to be better at sparring or fighting but not shadow boxing? Shadow boxing just seems more difficult because you got to imagine the opponent
When I shadow box, I focus on technique and footwork overall, rather than caring if someone/opponent is actually in front of me lol. Don't overthink that one.
If you want to build fast confidence in sparing just go spar with Sean Strickland and record it and hope you become a legend beating a champion in sparring?
The fact that you’re sick and your still making videos is amazing !
Haha. Thanks.
It's definitely a struggle speaking right now.
But I don't want to slow down

It's alright brother. It's not a loss it's a lesson. I'd say we all need such lessons to push past our limits.
At least you've got the balls to do it,you'll get him next time.

So have good defensive combos, have distance management tools, and one counter

Gabriel, please make a video of what's your thoughts on sparring match between Sean Strickland and Sneako
Thanks for this! Very helpful info.
Best advice; Say "F it!" and have fun. Just let those limbs and combos go, safely and methodically, of course.
Again thanks kru
