    1. use feints to gauge opponent's reactions
    2. use your eyes and where you look to decieve people where you will throw enxt
    3. gauge distance using your jab and front kick to master range control
    4. throw the same thing twice then switch it up the third time because you know exactly where they'll be
    5. 25% if not more of the movements you do in sparring should be fakes, or your opponent can figure you out really quickly

    Personal favourite; step back, let them step in then teep. Repeat. Third time step back then throw a lead side kick to the face just a fraction of a beat earlier as they are stepping in. Level, technique, and timing change catches people a lot.

    #4 is something I picked up on very naturally, especially since the fighters at my gym seem to love counterpunching on my jabs 😅 Tap them a couple times as if I'm hesitant to engage, then fake into a cross or overhand catches people often 🙂

    So if I'd compare these to what I do in late medieval german swordfighting you'd be calling these tactics: 1. Fehler (literally mistake); 2. Schielhau (looking/squinting cut); 3. Langort (literally: longpoint); 4.Zucken (literally twitching); 5. frequens motus (latin for constant motion). Love it!

    As a boxer myself i use these same concepts. If a boxer is not useing these same type of techniques he/she is not going to be landing shots when it comes to sparring/boxing/fighting anyone with expirience. At some point with a boxer these techniques are a "must know how to do" if you want to win.

    I use a lot of feints especially with the jab. But I never really go for the left hook when they over parry. I kinda turn my jab into a frame and pin or hold their parry hand down so they can’t really bring their hand back to their face and just throw the cross from there

    snake charming: training your opponent to take note of a specific limb by doing minute circles (as if you were subconsciously preparing the hand to strike) or twitching with your kicking leg ever so slightly. if they take note of this imminent danger, you pepper them from the opposite limb until their focus switches at which point you just change limbs and rinse and repeat. at some point they will opt for charging forward. monetize!

    Question for future videos: when performing a roundhouse kick, is it really necessary to swing the arm thai style to get more power? Wouldn't it be much more safe to keep both hands tightly to the foreheads the whole time, thus worth the marginal loss of power?

    • @GabrielVargaOfficial
      @GabrielVargaOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can leave your hands up but the main concern is not punches. It's techniques at the same length as your kick.
      So one hand should block that and your other arm can work to create power.
      But don't worry about that if you initially if you feel compromised in sparring. You can add the swing later.

    Some of my personal fakes if your like me and love your teep: fake teep to jab/ cross whatever you feel like (if hands are trying to catch teep every time it will not only land the punch but let you keep throwing that teep later as they're scared to catch now). Fake teep to knee if they try to stuff it that'll make them think twice (obviously be nice with the knee nobody likes an asshole)

    These are tactics that overlay the fighter that the individual already is. If they solely relied on these, if the other guy is half decent they will eventually pick up on them and just bum rush the fuck out of their rhythm. If the other guy has good timing then it's even worse.

  • @Makkushimu
    @Makkushimu ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hmm okay I gotta interject to the mentality here. During point #2 you started talking about your sparring partner's skill level. Trying to "win" in sparring is too often at the root of toxic gym culture. I've always been taught you should never try to "win against" your sparring PARTNER (different to OPPONENT). I understand that the difference can easily go into the topic of semantics, but the point still stands. For competitors on the other hand I know you need competitive sparring, but if you're out there trying to "win against" a casual practitioner, you're just souring the experience. You already know you can win, and casual sparring needs to be beneficial for BOTH parties (because competitive sparring already should have similar skill levels in order for it to be beneficial), meaning that if you're steamrolling your lower skill level partner, they're not going to learn anything from it, and neither are you, heck, you might even get bad habits from that. Instead you could try honing specific skills that you're still practicing, which you couldn't try to get down with a higher level partner. Going into basic sparring with the mentality you're going to "beat everyone" just makes you seem like you're overcompensating for "something", to put it in as simple terms as possible.
    Again, I understand that high level practitioners, especially competitors, have different requirements from sparring than casual practitioners, but to say "this is how you win against a lower skill level sparring partner" COMPLETELY misses the point of not only what competitive level practitioners would get, but also the whole point of sparring itself. If you had prefaced this with "in competitive sparring", then there would be no issue, but the way this sounds now is that you're saying all sparring should incorporate this mentality of "winning", when it can be very inconducive to the type of sparring that should take place at a specific gym.
    Edit: And now I saw the spinning back fist. Oof... I get that it must have just been how it flowed for you, but those usually start wars if you throw them in sparring. I gotta say I don't think this video really hit its mark this time, usually your content is very good and enjoyable, but this time I gotta give it a dislike :/

    • @kvarga9164
      @kvarga9164 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gabriel never hurts his sparring partners and he is referring to upping the game for them and teaching them new stuff they can try and anyone who knows Gabriel understands you SPAR LIGHT.
      Gabriel has litteraly hundreds of videos where he mentions what bad sparring partners are and how you do not need to hit hard during sparring. Learning how to be much better is the goal though.
      All these drills are to improve a developing fighters game so when they get in the ring - where there is full contact - they may have more success.
      As he mentioned these are things you can do and learn to excecute with sparring partners who are not elite fighters as world class fighter do not fall for any of these things.They are all just too good and are no longer affected by things such as these.
      Dominating sparring partners is in no way an instruction to hurt them or cause damage but to improve skill set.
      I do see how you could take that as a negative comment - not the intention at all though

      @@kvarga9164 yeah, I hope it was nothing more than an awkward choice of words. What would be unfortunate is if this choice was deliberate, for the sake of capturing, erm... not the most cultured audience who'd take it the "wrong" way
