    Wow that trailer had a Hell of a winch just single line too, I thought for sure those ramps were going to give way.

    Having seen the end result I had to watch getting it onto the trailer from the woods at the start. What an amazing journey.

    Have watched all episodes from Perth west Australia and have been fascinated at the progress.
    Keep up the good work.

    When I was a kid I worked for a small construction company - working on county and township and forestry roads. We had older D7 and D8 Cats. lots of innovation when working with them in weird areas. I think if I were trying to line that D4 up the the trailer I would have put one of those hardwood 4x4 blocks onto the ground behind the right hand track - right at the start of the steel trailer ramp. I would have then winched the Cat back to get that block wedged between a grouser and the ramp. The grouser would put downward pressure on the block to help hold it - along with the edge of the ramp. I think the Cat would have swung around easily then. The block may become stuck, but once the Cat was lined up, just pull the trailer ahead an inch or two. Fun video - I'm going to watch the others right now!

    From little things, big things grow.
    The project hasn't gone the easy way, it was parked in the forest for years for a reason it seems.
    You havent give up, go for it & do it the right way.
    Thank You for showing us the good & real bad parts of your journey.

    Oh God... 2 things. The shock loading the hitch on the trailer was taking every time he yanked forward with the truck... and the worst part is your buddy standing on the trailer right in line with the winch cable. Helluva project... I stumbled onto one of your later videos and decided to watch from the beginning.

    Came over thanks to you from another social media platform. Thank you. Ya know, we all want to see more. Put the camera up into those trees, it’s closer. Tell us about the tractor that’s pulling. Whose’s doing what? 😊 Pardon me, you know what you are doing, I’m just totally engaged! 😊

    The other day I looked at a 60-year old plus Cat for sale. I had no trouble getting it started but the left brake pedal wouldn't budge so naturally the tracks move wouldn't, either. Rear access panels were blocked by a CCU so the tractor will probably remain motionless.

  • @jackpinesavagerepair1918
    @jackpinesavagerepair1918 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hook a chain to left track. Hook chain so you pull track back like engine trying to spin it while holding right brake

    Brakes were never going to work unless they release the clutch to help steer.

    I know at the point this was filmed that a lot of work needed to be done, but it was still oddly satisfying seeing the tracks move.

    Mine without rops and winch weighs 14,081 lbs with ½ tank of fuel. My guess is yours is close to 17,000lbs maybe more. The 10,000 lbs weight cat gives is the tractor only. They didn't even include the hydraulic system in the weight.

    I would not be standing where that guy is on the truck winching the bulldozer. if that cable breaks its game over if it hits him and the guy on the dozer

    • @marcosmota1094
      @marcosmota1094 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That thin cable plus piddling swage was a lottery ticket, and he needlessly abused the chain. He needs to get up on Dyneema while he's still alive.

  • @dtiydr
    @dtiydr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    2:05 i would not have stand where he stand when he worked the winch. If the wire would break at the dozer he would have been severely injured.

  • @GaryPArmstrong
    @GaryPArmstrong 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Putting your foot on the brake is not enough! You have to use the clutch handle as well on the left side to help for it to turn. I guess you probably know that know Lol.

    I never understand how someone just leaves equipment that costs 100’s of thousands of dollars out and just walks away. I hate to leave my car out of the garage overnight.

      Serious business !! My neighbor had a beautiful open bow Bayliner boat in his side yard when we bought our house 30+ years ago that never moved from the spot it was in. I tried several times to get him to sell it to me and even had his Son try to talk him into selling it, but, nope, it just sat there. About a year ago, he got sick and offered it to me for $3500. By that time, the fiberglass looked like it was de-laminating, the seats had rotted, the motor was ruined and the tires had sunk into the ground almost up to the axles. His Son told me the guy only used it five or six times, when he died, they hauled it out on a flatbed and took it to the scrap yard.

      The term is "commercially viable." When you make your living with a piece of equipment there comes a point were repairs are no longer cost effective. A person can put some elbow grease into the project and make it run and use it for light duty work but it will never be a low hour machine ever again. Plus its commercial replacement has an air conditioned cab, an adjustable blade and more modern fuel management systems.

    • @qrptedmac
      @qrptedmac 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JR-bj3uf That’s fine then, sell as is, get something out of it.

    • @JR-bj3uf
      @JR-bj3uf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@qrptedmac I understand but selling it, even for scrap takes time and time is money. I work in the lift truck industry. I see videos, all the time, of people pulling old trucks out of fields and making "will it run" videos. What you don't see is the many thousands of hours on the basic components like transaxels, engines and transmissions. A lot of customers, when getting the bad news about the final cost of repairs just park them in an out of the way spot on the property. A dodgy lift truck that can't be relied on to lift or stop is a danger t0 the operation. I am assuming that this is true for bulldozers as well.

    • @BarnyardEngineering
      @BarnyardEngineering 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JR-bj3uf There is also the sentimental aspect. For someone that dozer may have been all they had to show for a lifetime of hard work. Young people just don't understand, "Sell it! Junk it!" they yell.
