So, in Metroid lore, Chozos lost their wings *ages* ago. So, Raven Beak having wings means he’s old as FUCK. He’s seen man-made disasters unfold in the shadows, all the primes, the X, Phazon shenanigans, and probably even knows about Ridley’s criminal record. He’s been watching. *Learning.* Oh, and those wings of his aren’t false ones. There’s a nice, meaty sound that plays when he rips it off after Samus shoots the other off. He just maims himself onscreen just because he wishes to take on Samus optimally.
They do live a really long time. People often forget this and assume they all just went extinct at the same time for no reason, and have been gone for a really long time just because they have some dusty ruins on a few planets. More people need to read that Metroid manga, it answers a lot of questions.
To put in perspective just how old Raven Beak could possibly be, the earliest canon chronological record of the Chozo comes from the “Creators” logbook entry on Elysia in Metroid Prime 3. In that logbook, the Elysian who wrote all the logbooks you find on the planet about their civilization claims that SkyTown was built 1500 years prior to the events of the Metroid series. While it’s not known exactly when the Chozo lost their wings, this means Raven Beak is possibly over 1500+ years old or far older. But that’s just admittedly guesswork on my part and there’s no way to definitively prove that.
probably the only ones that lost their wings were the ones that adopted a more pacifist life style and ideology, however, chozo tribes that retained their warrior ways, like the mawkin, kept their wings since they still used them. at least thats my guess.

I dunno if they'll do another Smash, at least in the form it is now, but if they do I'd like to think that Raven Beak would be a frontrunner for a new character. Everybody loves this dude, he made a big impression. And on top of that Dread seems to actually be a hit.
If there's one thing above all else that MercurySteam has shown with their Metroid games, it's that they know how to make fantastic boss fights. Raven Beak is the most fun I've had with a final boss since Senator Armstrong in Metal Gear Rising.
Most of the bosses in the game took me at least 10 tries the first time but i had so much fun with them. It never felt unfair just like i needed to figure out the patterns and get my execution down
This really does give off strong "this is it" vibes. Like the culmination of an entire saga, where you finally stand face-to-face with the one who was in the shadows all along, orchestrating your every trial - just out of your field of vision, yet hiding in plain sight. Oh wait
It is rare for a media to successfully pull out this kind of "Ultimate ennemy", looking at you Blizzard. But I find Ravenbeak to be excellent in that regard.
I'm in love with the fact that they actually did something with the creepy Chozo dude from Zero Mission's options screen. In my headcannon it was Raven Beak staring at you since 2004.
What's interesting is the chozo statues in this game. All the regular items and guide statues look like benevolent birds but the unknown item statues look more aggressive and have sharper beaks, so all the way since Zero Mission we were hinted at Mawkin Chozo
@@marcoscabezolajr.8408 Interesting thought about that having just played Zero Mission recently if this is the case: The three unknown item statues in particular give you the three strongest upgrades: the Wave Beam, Gravity Suit and Space Jump. I don't entirely think it's coincidence that you would get the strongest weapon and the strongest armour from a statue of the warrior tribe of the chozo. It seems in their nature.

Fighting this dude, I genuinely wasn’t sure if I was ready, or if there was some hidden story element I missed that was necessary to even damage Raven Beak.
Here's the thing I found out after playing this game 4 times over. You know how some bosses like Kraid or the Phantom Cloak one has a cutscene at the beginning of their fight to display how to beat them. Yeah, RB has that too... Just at the VERY FUCKING BEGINNING OF THE GAME. So if you remembered that inconspicuous detail all the way then, the first phase would've been easier than one may first encounter.
I loved this bossfight. It’s basically as final as a boss can get. Everything started because of him. Samus got her strength because of him (and partially because of Grey Voice). He started the Metroid Crisis. He is the one responsible on why the federation discovered the metroids and where raided by the pirates. Heck he probably influenced even Mother Brain, as we can see Mawkin fighting zebesian space pirates with the aid of Mother Brain in Ferenia. He was the one who started it all in the first place. Then there where those Statues in Samus Returns depicting him. Then the Memories of him killing the Thoha. All in order to get the Metroids. If they just destroyed SR388, there would be no X, no Metroids. Countless lives would have been saved, the pirates would have fallen faster. But one bird man just had to fulfill his plans
though the Metroids did bring one good thing to the galaxy. if the Metroids didn't spread to Tallon IV, one of them wouldn't have mutated into Metroid Prime, or reincarnated as Dark Samus, then she wouldn't have hijacked Phaaze and tried to conquer the whole galaxy by throwing Leviathan seeds at all the planets willy nilly, meaning Samus and the Federation wouldn't have found Phaaze and blew it up, erasing all Phazon from existence. Raven Beak ensured the destruction of all phazon.

The whole game's OST really. I was prepared to hate it if they just did a bunch of fanservice remixes from the old scrimblo bimblo 90s game that they played as a child
I only really wanted ONE remix and that was the Kraid/Phantoon boss theme for the Kraid fight with the high quality samples this games OST has. So I was a bit let down there but I'm glad the rest of the OST is original material at least. I also similarly want ONE Super Metroid remix in Prime 4 (hoping for West Maridia personally) because it's tradition since we had Lower Norfair, then Red Brinstar then the Space Pirate theme... one remix for each Prime 1-3 respectively

That sun attack is so fucking evil, I thought I might be able to power bomb it but I never tried it (found out later you can), got better at dodging it though
Oddly enough, the part of it that disturbed me the most was when Samus was literally about to die and he went "close your eyes and rest", as if I was just calmly going to sleep. Maybe it's because I'm used to Ganon that's all about 'muahahah, I'll kill you!". Am I the only one that finds it an extremely psychopathic thing to say?
Yeah. Mother brain is another one who is really messed up... The way she deliberately used weaker attacks when samus was unable to move just so she can extend the pain. Just straight up sadistic. My two favorite villains in the series no doubt.
I loved that this boss fight had 3 phases. And when RavenBeak got frickin wings, holy crap. Not to mention fighting someone else with a Chozo handgun was sick. RavenBeak was an awesome new Metroid villain that delivered.
Ravens are one of the smartest animals, Mercury Studio's knew what they were doing with Raven Beak. All he was missing was an army of wolves to do his bidding.
We can all agree this is arguably one of if not the best boss fight in Metroid history, a beautiful culmination of every threat samus has faced, like she has finally met her true match. One little detail I like is that Raven Beak uses the aeon beam burst from samus returns! It’s like Raven Beak is using your most powerful moves against you from all of metroids history, what an incredible battle!
A thought I just had about the fight with Raven Beak - it's the second time in the series that we have to fight another Power Suit user, but the first time we've fought one with more experience using it than Samus. The first was the SA-X, but it was basically just copying Samus, and couldn't really develop any complex tactics beyond "unga bunga Ice Beam and Screw Attack". Raven Beak had his own fighting style and attacks, and might have even had a superior model to Samus'. The only thing he didn't have - and thus wanted - was Samus' Metroid DNA.
if you think about it the ruins test in zero mission technically is wearing one, though i would not count it as a real power suit user as it's just a ghost or hologram or something
Considering that the Metroids, the X, the Space Pirates, the phazon, the federation army's conspirators and the Chozo responsible for the incident were all destroyed, I wonder which direction will the series go next?
well the Fed conspirators are probably still out there, the X could still be alive somewhere else like how they were on ZDR after SR388 was destroyed, and we could still have Mawkin Chozo out there along with Thoha's like Quiet Robe. Metroids for sure are gone though, Samus is the last one and Phazon we'll have to see Prime 4 but that might come back
Love how phase two plays a tribute to ridley a bit. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if samus recognized it and thought "you remind me of him. That monster who took my parents from me..."
I've gotta admit, I didn't like this at first, dissonance rubbed me the wrong way and it just felt.. unpolished? Listened to it a couple more times, definitely grew on me, now I think this is one of the best final boss themes in Metroid.
Some, myself included, have likened the final confrontation between the two to be similar to Luke Skywalker facing off against Darth Vader. A particular example of this comes from a video that a Japanese YT user made about Samus Shinesparking against Raven Beak's own Shinespark, only for her to get pushed back by the Mawkin warlord's superior one. Truly a powerful combatant.
It also takes a certain calibre of boss to not just have the upper hand in terms of movement (when he starts flying), but also (later on) RIPS apart his wings to show that he doesn't necessarily need to fly to be able to wipe the floor with you.
Fun fact Raven Beak was behind almost everything in the Metroid series. He's the one that gave the Space Pirates weapons which made them the big threat they were. He may also have influenced Mother Brain as they share similar ideology and Mother Brain apparently went "rogue" we know from flashbacks that they met. Basically it's all his fault

And using Mother Brain and the Pirates for his goals is definitely something he would do Edit: We've already seen with the Thoha he has no problem in killing his fellow Chozo if it furthers his goals
I just realized something. Keener ears have noted that the music uses a rearranged version of the item music, and it gets more and more frantic as Samus gets angrier. We all know Samus isn't locked in with Raven Beak, but the other way around, meaning This isn't Raven Beak's boss music - It's Samus' boss music 😆
The outro felt like it was missing something... Oh, yes! The super sayan power up scream and the birb in pain noises XD Jokes aside, this theme rocks *SO HARD!*

One of my favorite parts of this boss is that he’s hard as nails *even if* you have 100% items. He’s so badass he can go toe-to-toe with Samus at full power and still kick her ass
If you've noticed both of my comments about RB, you'll also know that even his Shinespark outclasses Samus's own, far and away. When I first saw that video, I was initially surprised how the player managed to set up a Shinespark during the fight. That feeling turned to shock and horror, after Raven Beak broke Samus's Shinespark with his own. He *KNOWS* your tactics, because it was HIS battle experience that made Samus who she is now. "Hadar Sen Olmen," indeed.
I love the seamless transitions into each phase.. Personality, phase 3 is best! It is just epic when it's phase 1, but now you gotta watch for the gold orb to drop power bombs! Never have I ever seen POWER BOMBS incorporated into a boss fight! (Outside Metroid Prime whenever it spawns metroids) (Probably because power bombs are usually mid to late game upgrades..)
I’m by no means good at video games. But this was my first 2d Metroid game and I struggled in a few sections. I remember losing to this guy over and over, thinking I’m never going to be able to beat him. Then finally one day I killed him and after that I got so use to the boss I could almost body him without even getting hit. Love this game so much.
Seriously, Raven Beak is one of the best final bosses I've seen, not because he's complex, but because he forces you to use everything you have in your hand, and the first time I died many times and when he locks you in a corner to hit you, it's very frustrating.
You know what, not a bad theme, actually pretty great. To me it's like Kylo Ren's theme in that it's a short motif, but this got a lot more development and fleshing out
@Clifford well after the release of sora sakurai said he doesn't think he can make another smash game to top ultimate nor does he think he think he can let another person director smash because last time he did it didn't work out too well. But he did say he he would be ok with adding more dlc characters to ultimate if Nintendo wants to but after adding sora it's very unlikely that will happened because you can't really do better than the most requested character
I think it's entirely possible that if the human race uploaded their most important military minds to AI, that the VASTLY technology superior Chozo race would have already been doing the same thing. I don't think he's gone.

@@paratrooper508 The game is hard from the very beginning, and a part of this difficulty is figuring out what to do and how to kill the bosses.
Here's the thing I found out after playing this game 4 times over. You know how some bosses like Kraid or the Phantom Cloak one has a cutscene at the beginning of their fight to display how to beat them. Yeah, RB has that too... Just at the VERY FUCKING BEGINNING OF THE GAME. So if you remembered that inconspicuous detail all the way then, the first phase would've been easier than one may first encounter.
Love how the chorus part is a distorted version of the item fanfare.

I loved this bossfight. It’s basically as final as a boss can get. Everything started because of him. Samus got her strength because of him (and partially because of Grey Voice). He started the Metroid Crisis. He is the one responsible on why the federation discovered the metroids and where raided by the pirates. Heck he probably influenced even Mother Brain, as we can see Mawkin fighting zebesian space pirates with the aid of Mother Brain in Ferenia.
He was the one who started it all in the first place. Then there where those Statues in Samus Returns depicting him. Then the Memories of him killing the Thoha. All in order to get the Metroids.
If they just destroyed SR388, there would be no X, no Metroids. Countless lives would have been saved, the pirates would have fallen faster.
But one bird man just had to fulfill his plans
though the Metroids did bring one good thing to the galaxy. if the Metroids didn't spread to Tallon IV, one of them wouldn't have mutated into Metroid Prime, or reincarnated as Dark Samus, then she wouldn't have hijacked Phaaze and tried to conquer the whole galaxy by throwing Leviathan seeds at all the planets willy nilly, meaning Samus and the Federation wouldn't have found Phaaze and blew it up, erasing all Phazon from existence.
Raven Beak ensured the destruction of all phazon.

The whole game's OST really. I was prepared to hate it if they just did a bunch of fanservice remixes from the old scrimblo bimblo 90s game that they played as a child
I only really wanted ONE remix and that was the Kraid/Phantoon boss theme for the Kraid fight with the high quality samples this games OST has. So I was a bit let down there but I'm glad the rest of the OST is original material at least.
I also similarly want ONE Super Metroid remix in Prime 4 (hoping for West Maridia personally) because it's tradition since we had Lower Norfair, then Red Brinstar then the Space Pirate theme... one remix for each Prime 1-3 respectively

I find it so cool that this man actually used his attacks when he first encounters samus in Artaria. Cool little details like that are so awesome.
Raven Beak was such a refreshing ass beating from a final boss I haven’t had in a while.

That sun attack is so fucking evil, I thought I might be able to power bomb it but I never tried it (found out later you can), got better at dodging it though
I didn't find it that bad, but then again I enjoy bullet hells and hard games in general so it's probably just me.
I thought you needed to power bomb the black holes at first until I locked onto one with storm missiles once.

I always just dropped a power bomb as soon as he began charging it up. Never had the attack do anything.
I had to watch a guide for phase three. Saw the power bomb after literally one second of video and decided I got this now.
Oddly enough, the part of it that disturbed me the most was when Samus was literally about to die and he went "close your eyes and rest", as if I was just calmly going to sleep.

I loved that this boss fight had 3 phases. And when RavenBeak got frickin wings, holy crap. Not to mention fighting someone else with a Chozo handgun was sick. RavenBeak was an awesome new Metroid villain that delivered.

Ravens are one of the smartest animals, Mercury Studio's knew what they were doing with Raven Beak. All he was missing was an army of wolves to do his bidding.

We can all agree this is arguably one of if not the best boss fight in Metroid history, a beautiful culmination of every threat samus has faced, like she has finally met her true match. One little detail I like is that Raven Beak uses the aeon beam burst from samus returns! It’s like Raven Beak is using your most powerful moves against you from all of metroids history, what an incredible battle!
I love that Shinespark attack he does. Coolest ability in Metroid history, appropriated by one of the coolest bosses and villains in the series.
Raven Beak is an excellent final boss in a game full of them, and a perfect capstone to the best game in the series.
A thought I just had about the fight with Raven Beak - it's the second time in the series that we have to fight another Power Suit user, but the first time we've fought one with more experience using it than Samus.
The first was the SA-X, but it was basically just copying Samus, and couldn't really develop any complex tactics beyond "unga bunga Ice Beam and Screw Attack". Raven Beak had his own fighting style and attacks, and might have even had a superior model to Samus'. The only thing he didn't have - and thus wanted - was Samus' Metroid DNA.
if you think about it the ruins test in zero mission technically is wearing one, though i would not count it as a real power suit user as it's just a ghost or hologram or something

Now that I think about you are right the SA-X opts to use only ice spazer and wave no charge beam or plasma beam

Though it probably doesn't count, Sylux's suit is a federation prototype of an artificial power suit, but he only really has the Shockcoil and Lockjaw
If Samus is the most badass bounty hunter in the galaxy, then Raven Beak is the most badass Chozo in the galaxy.
They went for a mix between retro and modern music for this theme. Interesting choice.

Considering that the Metroids, the X, the Space Pirates, the phazon, the federation army's conspirators and the Chozo responsible for the incident were all destroyed, I wonder which direction will the series go next?
well the Fed conspirators are probably still out there, the X could still be alive somewhere else like how they were on ZDR after SR388 was destroyed, and we could still have Mawkin Chozo out there along with Thoha's like Quiet Robe. Metroids for sure are gone though, Samus is the last one and Phazon we'll have to see Prime 4 but that might come back

Love how phase two plays a tribute to ridley a bit. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if samus recognized it and thought "you remind me of him. That monster who took my parents from me..."
I never heard this during the fight. Probably because the words “please die” echoed through my head the entire time.
I've gotta admit, I didn't like this at first, dissonance rubbed me the wrong way and it just felt.. unpolished? Listened to it a couple more times, definitely grew on me, now I think this is one of the best final boss themes in Metroid.
Some, myself included, have likened the final confrontation between the two to be similar to Luke Skywalker facing off against Darth Vader.
A particular example of this comes from a video that a Japanese YT user made about Samus Shinesparking against Raven Beak's own Shinespark, only for her to get pushed back by the Mawkin warlord's superior one.
Truly a powerful combatant.
It takes a special kind of boss to kick your butt the first few times you try it, and yet still be fun to fight despite that
It also takes a certain calibre of boss to not just have the upper hand in terms of movement (when he starts flying), but also (later on) RIPS apart his wings to show that he doesn't necessarily need to fly to be able to wipe the floor with you.

Fun fact Raven Beak was behind almost everything in the Metroid series. He's the one that gave the Space Pirates weapons which made them the big threat they were. He may also have influenced Mother Brain as they share similar ideology and Mother Brain apparently went "rogue" we know from flashbacks that they met. Basically it's all his fault

And using Mother Brain and the Pirates for his goals is definitely something he would do Edit: We've already seen with the Thoha he has no problem in killing his fellow Chozo if it furthers his goals

By far the coolest ending sequence of events to any game I've ever played
One of my favorite parts of this boss is that he’s hard as nails *even if* you have 100% items. He’s so badass he can go toe-to-toe with Samus at full power and still kick her ass
If you've noticed both of my comments about RB, you'll also know that even his Shinespark outclasses Samus's own, far and away.
When I first saw that video, I was initially surprised how the player managed to set up a Shinespark during the fight. That feeling turned to shock and horror, after Raven Beak broke Samus's Shinespark with his own.
He *KNOWS* your tactics, because it was HIS battle experience that made Samus who she is now.

I love the seamless transitions into each phase.. Personality, phase 3 is best! It is just epic when it's phase 1, but now you gotta watch for the gold orb to drop power bombs! Never have I ever seen POWER BOMBS incorporated into a boss fight! (Outside Metroid Prime whenever it spawns metroids)
(Probably because power bombs are usually mid to late game upgrades..)

I’m by no means good at video games. But this was my first 2d Metroid game and I struggled in a few sections. I remember losing to this guy over and over, thinking I’m never going to be able to beat him. Then finally one day I killed him and after that I got so use to the boss I could almost body him without even getting hit. Love this game so much.
Seriously, Raven Beak is one of the best final bosses I've seen, not because he's complex, but because he forces you to use everything you have in your hand, and the first time I died many times and when he locks you in a corner to hit you, it's very frustrating.

You know what, not a bad theme, actually pretty great. To me it's like Kylo Ren's theme in that it's a short motif, but this got a lot more development and fleshing out

For how cool as a final boss he was it will be a shame that we won't see him in future games unless he has some clones like ridley did
@Clifford well after the release of sora sakurai said he doesn't think he can make another smash game to top ultimate nor does he think he think he can let another person director smash because last time he did it didn't work out too well. But he did say he he would be ok with adding more dlc characters to ultimate if Nintendo wants to but after adding sora it's very unlikely that will happened because you can't really do better than the most requested character
I think it's entirely possible that if the human race uploaded their most important military minds to AI, that the VASTLY technology superior Chozo race would have already been doing the same thing.
