    Anna my dear, you have made me realize a couple things. One, I will never be able to speak Finnish and two, your expressions say everything! When you are really liking a certain part of a song you get a sparkle in your eyes that is truly amazing.

    Female fronted power, Austrian symphonic metal band from the Steiermark region.
    Atlantic epic power folk song starting with a slight Nightwish touch. Captain Nemo of sure is proud.

    Why haven't you heard of this band before? Well, they kinda have flown under the radar, for awhile, but I think they're starting to get more exposure with their last few albums. They just released their 8th studio LP and only on these last 4 albums have they kept the same female vocalist in Clémentine. The first two had different singers, and then the 3rd and 4th album had the same singer, and because of the volatility in the position, it was hard for the fans to culminate around the band. But since finding Clémentine, I think the band has finally found its groove. However, Michele has only been with them these last two albums, while Mario Plank was the male vocalist before that.
    But yeah, when I first ran across them way back in 2007 after their 3rd album, I thought they sounded like a poor man's Nightwish, but they've gotten so much better since then. And I'm also surprised at how heavy they can sound when they want to. See if you can find the song Maria Magdalene off of the EP of the same name. Very cool (and heavy) song for a symphmetal band.

    Hei Anna! It's good to see some less-famous bands being praised (and reacted) on your channel, as sometimes they contains some half-hidden gems. I discovered VoA about last year, while exploring the rich symphonic metal band space, and I was instantly attracted by Clémentine's voice. So I very much hope to hear them reacted again by you (with enough time to analyse, please don't be afraid to make a bit longer videos ;-) ).
    One note on names pronunciation, the band nominally is Austrian but Clémentine is French so her name sounds like 'Klementiin' and Michele is Italian, so his name has a hard-ch, something like 'Mikeele'.

      I plug here my proposal: Blackbriar. "alt metal/gothic rock" Dutch band says wikipedia.
      Zora's voice is quite unique, high and clear, at the same time haunting and captivating. One of her inspirations is Kate Bush.
      Maybe start with "Until Eternity" which has 17 millions views? th-cam.com/video/kuvST3wGCG8/w-d-xo.html

    As always, Great reaction. This is my introduction to this band. The band has talent, the singers are very good, even excellent. The production is first class. The video is spell binding. Yet I cannot help but hear Nightwish and Sabaton in my head. Both great bands to follow. Again, this band sounds great and I will be looking into them much more but I can't get rid of the feeling I have heard them before or better yet, their sound before.

      Of course - if you know them (and if you're only very little in symphonic metal you surely are) you've Nightwish in your ears - directly there comes "Once" in your mind (Nemo, Ghost Love Score ...) ... ... but is this a bad thing? It's not too bad to be compared to Nightwish, or not? Is it better? Well, ... ... it depends. Nightwish is Nightwish, Sabaton is Sabaton, Kamelot is Kamelot, Within Temptation is Within Tempation - even Ad Infinitum is Ad Infinitum. And so Visions Of Atlantis is Visions Of Atlantis. I don't like the thought of competing them alltogether. My joy comes with listening to good music, no matter who made it. And btw ... as good as Floor (Jansen) really is. When did you last hear a very good (new) composition from them. Toumas (Holopainen) got more and more into strange compositions. For me they're forgetting a bit about beautiful music in their last titles. So - for me Visions Of Atlantis comes fresh and handy around the corner. Remember ... it's only their 2nd album they are doing together with this setup.

    • @scottfarley3644

      @@stephanschoneberg3453 Please do not assume anything about me. All of us have different tastes in music. Do not be offended by another's opinion about what he feels or hears. I do not feel it necessary to qualify myself as to how much I like this musical genre or that musical genre or how much I have listened to any one style of music. You may hear something different than I do, and no, that is NOT a bad thing. But for me, I look for musicians and bands that stand out from others. I appreciate this groups talent and it obviously shows in the video. But for me, they do not stand out by themselves. For you, they may. So we both must accept that we have different values and tastes in the music we like and let it go at that.

    • @stephanschoneberg3453
      @stephanschoneberg3453 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah no - please do not take my words to serious. Don't take them word by word and interpret something that was not meant. And really - I'm not offended by your words. How could I? Cause I know we're all different and we are all like different things (gladly). I'm searching maybe not for the same thing than you do when listening to music. I'm just listening - nothing else. I do like it, or I do not. Yeah - it shouldn't be a copy of another one but at the end they're all playing notes and using their voice or instruments of any shape. Of course you're right - they do sound a lot like Nightwish (maybe only here or on that album). But they don't cover it. And even if they do, there are so many very talented cover-interprets (Violet Orlandi or Ai Mori e.g.) around who are great musicians. If I like it, if it sounds good for me - well than I like it. They need not to have more - I hear music - nothing else. If the musician(s) do more, great - but in the end it is not that important for me. I do appreciate big arrangements (like Within Tempation did with their Black Symphony) but this does not necessarily mean that noone else is allowed afterwards to play metal with a big orchestra (live) as maybe Bring Me The Horizon did years later. This is then nothing new but also great music. This was being meant by - I'm not comparing them. I can say that the one thing is great - and the other also. I must not decide what was greater if I like both. There is no need (for me) for doing this. At the same point you're right by your words when you say that there is no need in quarreling each other ;-) Have a great day - listen to some music you like or do something other for give each day a good one in your life. Life - is to short for being sad or mad (even a little bit) about each other.

    Greetings from your neighbour in the west. Saw this band live two weeks ago in Gothenburg. Never heard of them, only knew they where symphonic metal (one of my favourite genres) and that they toured with Xandria who just got a new singer, thought I should give them both a shot since they where playing here and the tickets where not too expensive. This was the song they started the setlist with... Let's just say I was sold as soon as the "Carmina burana" choir kicked in. Both Clementine and Michele sound just as good live and they have fantastic scene presence. They somehow make the pirate theme seams authentic and not like a gimmick och cheesy. Im convinced Clementine could have convinced everyone in the audience to commandeer a ship in the harbour and go on a pirate adventure if she wanted. :)

    About a year ago, Facebook was really aggressive about advertising this band to me. I gave them a listen and liked what I heard, though I wouldn't say I loved it. The same goes here. It's a good song, but aside from the seafaring theme, I it hits my ears as a blend of Nightwish and Amaranthe, or maybe Epica and Sirenia. Either way, it's familiar. The two singers are very good, and the video makes me want to run a pirate-y campaign in Dungeons & Dragons. By the way, from a vocal perspective how does a cry differ from a yodel? I'm a bit fuzzy on that.

    • @annavaskelainen
      @annavaskelainen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand! 😊
      I was wondering when someone would ask me this question!
      A yodel requires the vocal tract to radically change shape and the vocal folds to change position in rapid-fire adjustments that create the tell-tale register "break"
      Crying vocal mode is based on the way our voices sound when we’re about to cry and there are more variations to this. Sometimes, it can be combined with Yodel!

    I've listened to Clementine's band 'Exit Eden' (hope you have too). Although each song individually sounds like a masterpiece, by the time I've listened to the whole album I get the feeling that there isn't enough variation and all the songs sound too similar. Nontheless I must listen to one now and again just because they are so good.

    Sorry Annabella this time I totally disagree. Drums couldn't give tempo in classical music and runs sound decades old in rock music! Muse (all of them comes from conservatorio) give us a really good example of what classical music culture and knowledge let reach in actually rock music. This instead is like cartoon rock good for a Disney movie.
    Is my fault I misunderstand (maybe cause of the ship) a reaction to Vangelis or I just came to see your last clip.
